General / Re: What games do you plan to beat this summer?
« on: May 21, 2017, 02:55:55 am »
I will actually have a good chunk of free time in the summer that I'm planning on tackling some of the longer titles I've purchased.

Horizon: Zero Dawn - Really just want to dive into this game and experience it.
Persona 5 - Again, just want to dive in.
Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix - At one point this was one of my all time favorite games. I want to see see if it still holds up to what I remember.
Final Fantasy VII - Never played this one. It's time.

There's also some shorter games like Sunset Overdrive, Battlefield 1, or Bayonetta that are on the docket.

I've toyed with the idea of going for a complete 3DS set. Currently I think there are around 500 games physically in the set. I have most of the rare and uncommon games already, so it would mostly be going for the random commons while the system is still actively available in stores. Problem is my collection already takes up a ton of space. Adding hundreds of 3DS games isn't going to help.  :P

1. Mega Man 3 (Platformer)
2. Pokemon Yellow (Exploration)
3. Final Fantasy IV (RPG)
4. Uncharted 2 (Third-person Shooter)
5. The Wolf Among Us (Story based)

I bought the collector's edition of Deformers from GameStop yesterday, and found out the game is online only. Now the game is a fine game and all, and the steelbook, soundtrack, and little figures the collector's edition came with are all cool, but once I learned that the game has no offline mode it made me wonder what the point of a physical disc for a game like this is. Say the servers get shut down years from now, the disc will be useless. Is it just retail space that justify the discs being printed? You need internet to play this game, so the advantage of being able to install it quickly off the disc is gone. And while I own the disc, I don't necessarily own the game's ability to function down the road.

Thoughts?

Just a heads up, the standard edition of A Rose in the Twilight has been taken off of NISA's web store. Now currently the only way to get an English physical copy is to get the limited edition which is down to 5%-0% stock.

You can get a code for a free PaRappa The Rapper dymanic theme by going to https://woobox.com/9588in
You'll just need to put in an email and fill in the answer box.
Answer = Matsuura

Costs $1.99 otherwise.

Hmm...I wonder if I should cancel my Ys Origins pre-order from Play Asia now.

Im tempted myself ... but canceling an order with Play Asia can be a pain in the ass ... and for only $25, its not worth it for me. Ill just resell it (at probably a small loss) and be done with it.
I'm in the same boat. But with it being Ys and all, competition for the limited edition might be fierce. May just stick with Play Asia for the sake of simplicity.

Just yesterday I was thinking about ordering the Japanese physical release that was announced for May. Glad I waited!

aaaaand it's gone.... well that was a hopeful 5 minutes of my life..
Still up at Gamestop.

I was able to get one though GS in-store yesterday, so you could try that. Regular in-store preorder so you don't have to worry about shipping.

Edit: scratch that. BF just messaged me to let me know that their in-store preorders are now sold out.
At the time of this posting, it's back up at GameStop.

I hate it when a game throws every enemy at you as the last mission before a boss. (Looking at you Deadpool) Not only can it be tricky in the most annoying ways, it just feels lazy.
On that same note of end game, when a game introduces a new mechanic near the end of the game it feels just misplaced. I don't need to learn a new mechanic 30 minutes before the game comes to an end.

I find speed running fascinating. The way the runners essentially have to out smart the game is really interesting. Especially with longer games. For example, I watched a speed run of the original Kingdom Hearts that they completed in a little over 3 hours. The little tricks they did to eliminate large portions of the game were unexpected.

I've tried to speed run Frogger Temple of the Frog on Game Boy Advance. I can get my time down to around 40 minutes.
The game Adventure on the Atari 2600 can be finished in under a minute. There's even a trophy/achievement in the Flashback Collection for beating it in under 40 seconds.

General / Re: How should I store Gameboy games?
« on: February 27, 2017, 11:54:38 pm »
Original Game Boy has around 500 games (I think) so to display them all with nail polish stands would require maybe a large shallow book case? Or even a long shelf with all the stands across the shelf. I've tried the binder way, but it got old after awhile. You could just stack them alphabetically and vertically in columns so you know what stack to look through to find the game you want.
