Title: Recently Finished
Post by: pacpix on July 27, 2012, 06:08:37 pm
I thought it would be cool to make a list of all the games we finish.  I'll start,
Donkey Kong Country: One of the best games I have ever played.  Its one of the games that I had that was sold or lost and it was a lot of fun to play it again.  Finished with 101%

Hydlide (NES):Just finished this one for the second time.  Last night when I was going to bed I randomly decided to play it and finished at one in the morning. :)

I beat Ys Origin (PC) with all characters a few days ago. Taking a break from other games that require me to push buttons like mad for the moment. :p

I played through Disney's Aladdin again for the first time in a while. I used to play that game daily when I was a kid and used to know where all the red gems were too. Takes me about 30s mins to blow through the game now.

I just finished Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart. Im still working on the extra stuff like the higher end monsters but the game itself is complete. :)

I also did something for my kids. I beat Mario 1, 2, 3, World, and 2j (which SUCKED).

I finished The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past this morning.  This game really held up over 20 years.  It's still just as fun as it was brand new.  It was such a good time.

Apparently.

The HORRIBLE CAMERA AND GODAWFUL JUMPING made things harder than it actually seemed. I'm going to try this in the GOG release of the game and see what the fuss was with the original version, I guess.

I just finished Saturn Bomberman, great game
Im working on actraiser and Final Fantasy Mystic Quest.
I acually like mystic quest, I mean I understand they just made it for us "stupid americans" but in all honesty its a nice little easy JRPG if you're not in the mood for a long drawn out game

Mystic Quest was my first RPG. It's not that bad, and it introduced me to the basics of the genre. I don't get why people seem to hate it so much.

I know why I dislike it. I can see its use ... but I had already played Destiny of an Emperor, Dragon Warrior 1-4, Final Fantasy 1, 4, and 6 when I played Mystic Quest. It seriously felt like it was aimed more for children. I felt the way about Ghost Lion too.

I really enjoyed Mystic Quest and I think it was on of the first RPGs I ever finished. I actually remember one shot killing the end boss, somehow.

Finished Gravity Rush yesterday... REALLY disappointed, since there's no ending. Rather, it just sets up for a sequel and, since the game barely sold, we won't get to see said sequel.

I FINALLY beat Mega Man: The Wily Wars for Mega Drive today. For some reason, I had a hard time getting through Mega Man 2, but I sat down today and just ripped it apart, then unlocked Wily Tower which was a breeze compared to the other 3 games.

Just finished Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance for Gamecube... wow that was a great SRPG!  Also finished Mario Kart: Double Dash a couple days ago with my cousin, kind of dis-liked it at first but by the end I was having a blast.  Next up is Tales of Symphonia...

The DLC doesn't do much other than show Batman is brooding more than usual. You play as Robin at least half of the time and there isn't much of a story.

I just finished Super Metroid... first time in, like, 10 years. Sadly didn't finish it fast enough for the "best" ending, but I did a lot more exploring than my old "speed runs".

Still though... they just don't make games like this anymore.

I beat it a few days ago, and it just... still feels incomplete. I doubt we'll be getting more DLC. Or any bugfixes. :(

Also, Robin looks and sounds way too old. And what the hell is up with Nightwing NOT HAVING ANY LINES.

Edit: And I just 100%ed Half-Life 2.

I didn't mind the ending and I just assume that it's setting up a sequel.

Just finished Pac-Man 2: The New Adventures for SNES.  It was fun, but I'm glad it was a short game.  Pac-Man is really annoying because he easily gets angry or sad which makes it so he will not listen to you.  Also when I was trying to go to a specific place he would do things like stop for a nap or even make balloon salesmen so mad that they fill him up with helium and let him fly away.  There were some cool puzzles though and if you visit the arcade you can play Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man.  I also liked the final boss.  Overall I had fun, but I doubt I will be playing this one again anytime soon.

My cousin and I are playing through all the resident evil games, we finished 1 and 2 over the last couple weekends.  Now I need to pick up number 3.  I enjoyed 1 much more than 2, more puzzles and planning vs. just gunning down 3x as many zombies.  The bosses in #1 were awesome (played the remastered version on the Gamecube).

Took a short break from Wizardry yesterday and finished Centipede: Infestation for Wii.  I had fun with this one, but it was more like Robotron 2084 than Centipede.  It was also really short and only took 3 or 4 hours to complete.  If your a fan of Robotron though and can find it cheap definitely pick this game up.

Which Wizardry game are you playing?

I'd never played *any* of the series until a few months ago, when I took the recommendation of a few friends from another board and I picked-up & played Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land for the PS2...

...I enjoyed it *SO* much, that as soon as I finished it, I bought, downloaded, and started playing Wizardry: Labyrinth of lost Souls on my PS3.

Anyone else here ever played either of these?
Title: Re: Recently Finished
Post by: pacpix on August 23, 2012, 05:57:36 pm
I am playing the first one.  I am playing the SNES remake though not the Apple II version.  The game is freaking scary, you never no when your entire party is going to be wiped out or you get teleported to some random part of the maze.  If your party is wiped out you have to make a new one and level them up to find your old characters, but by that time your new characters are better anyway and it is too expensive to bring the old ones back to life.  Plus there is a chance that even after paying to save the character that they are lost forever.  Also no auto map, I have been mapping it out in excel.  If that is not difficult enough for you Wizardry IV is even harder, considered the hardest CRPG of all time.

I have Labyrinth of lost Souls on my Ipod Touch, but I want to play the series in order (excluding all the japan only games that came after Sir-Tech went out of business.) before I play it.  Hopefully I will have this game by the end of the summer: http://www.amazon.com/The-Ultimate-Wizardry-Archives-Pc/dp/B00001QEP9/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1345758999&sr=8-5&keywords=wizardry

I guess I'm finished with Earthbound. I played through the whole game the naughty way. (I don't have the cart. So, emulator it is.)  Then, at the last boss the game keeps having some sort of error and eats shit!  Oh well.  I guess whenever I do find a reasonable priced cart, I can finished this fantastic piece of gaming.

A few weeks ago I finished up Darksiders.  I was really surprised by that game, the combat was great, the upgrades were addicting and it was genuinely fun, though some of the puzzles were a little annoying.  The story was kind of a mess, but the ending was pretty epic.  Looking forward to playing the sequel.

Last week I finished Zelda Skyward Sword.  I think it may be my all-time favorite Zelda game.  It just gets so much stuff right.  The motion control swordplay is far more fun than just button pressing.  I found fighting standard enemies to be really enjoyable and satisfying.  The items are used in creative ways and are cleverly worked into puzzles throughout the game, so you're constantly using everything in your inventory to traverse the dungeons.  I put nearly 60 hours into the quest and felt extremely satisfied by the time it was over.  My only real gripe would be returning to areas you've beaten and Girahim, the main villain.  Both him and fights with him were annoying.

ReArmed is a remake/ reimagining of the original. So if you like the 1st one you should dig rearmed. Each zone has its own bosses too so its not just run to the right dodge dudes and blow up the reactor anymore.

#2 I haven't gotten into, not sure if it's cause it was handled by a different company or what.

Yeah, strangely enough the first ReArmed was made by those guys who made that REALLY BAD Bionic Commando reboot (with the guy with dreadlocks), but surprisingly it was really well made and felt right, I loved playing through it despite the few minor changes from the original and I actually like it more than the original a little bit.

ReArmed 2 was made by different guys, who had even less prior experience than the guys who made the first. I played the demo for ReArmed 2 and I just couldn't stand it, it felt soul-less and... frankly feels like the developer had never even made a game before, it just wasn't well made at all. The boss battles I played (and afterwards watched on youtube) were just boring and... effortless.

I actually kind of like the new Bionic Commando game. Was there parts I disliked? Yes. But for the most part I liked the swinging and grappling mechanics. And most of the story, though they go full on Neon Genesis Evangelion at the end with their explanation of how Bionics work.

Oh, I didn't think I was bad mouthing GRiN. I watched a bunch of Dev diaries while waiting for BC: ReArmed to come out and they were very excited about that game. The problem with the Bionic Commando sequel was that Capcom did hardly any advertising for the game and didn't give it any exposure, and what they did talk about was the Mutli-Player and little of anything else. Leading to little sales and the game getting marked down to $20 a month after release.

Definitely true. I don't think I had even seen any single-player gameplay before the game came out, and the only reason I knew about the game at all was because I liked the original game and ReArmed.

I didn't end up enjoying the game when I immediately rented it at launch, but I've seen much worse TPS games since then, so maybe I could go back to it eventually and enjoy it more than my first play now that I know what to expect.

Just finished Condemned 2 on PS3.  Very rough execution.  It had neat concepts, but it was like the lead designer was telling them what to do over the phone.  No one ever said "Yeah, have a UV light to look for blood smears, but ALSO, don't have enemies running into railings and unable to get upstairs..."

I liked that it didn't hold your hand through some of the investigation sequences, and asks you to recall things that happened, and make guesses based on the evidence you have.  That was all pretty cool.

Finished Samurai Spirits RPG today. If anyone else is planning one playing it I highly recommend cheating like it's going out of fashion - the encounter rate is awful and the bosses are pretty cheap and far more powerful than the grunts you face every five bloody steps. There's a decent-enough RPG hidden away in there, but there's no way in hell I could have stomached playing it properly :/

Of course! :D

It's even worse here though (yep, I really did just say that!) - I'd literally be doing damage in the thousands to the regular enemies before the boss, then on the boss themselves you'd consider yourself lucky if you did anything over 100 :/ Asura Zanmaden's Yuga may continue to mock my puny mortal skills, but even on a bad day it doesn't take me 20 hours just to reach him.

The last game I finished was a couple of weeks ago. Demon's Souls, jeez that game is so god tier. There's a boss in that game that !!!! SPOILER ALERT !!!!! literally kills herself because you killed her guard, her soulmate[/spoiler] so many feels were had. This game never really had that much love, especially compared to Dark Souls, which everyone and their mother is talking about because it's "really hard, bro!!!". It also got a lot more love because it was released on 360/PS3/PC, while Demon's Souls is a PS3 exclusive. I honestly think Demon's Souls was the better game, it goes for an overworld system rather than being open world like DaS is. There are a LOT more beginner's traps in Dark Souls, which can be very annoying, which may cause people to blame it for having "artificial difficulty". For those who are not aware of the Souls series, It is essentially a JRPG in a western setting that truly challenges the gamer, unlike newer games this generation who hold the players hand throughout the game.

I didn't mean for a review of the game, just wanted to share some info about it.

I finally got around to beating Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks.  The end boss fights seemed to take forever.  Sort of a Lord if the Rings type ending.  After the third boss battle, I said to myself "Surely THIS is the end."  Nope, kept going.

I had the hardest time getting that stupid music flute thing to work at the end! The boss was pretty cool though.  I can't really say I enjoyed the DS Zelda games much...

Are you kidding me?!

Not only did Demon's Souls get much more "love", but (if you read/researched it a bit), you'd see that many players & reviewers of Dark Souls consider Demon's Souls the better of the 2 games & bemoan the mis-steps, and "steps-down", the exploits, and the *much* lower quality of the multi-player/invasion aspects of the 2nd game.

Don't get me wrong - neither one is a bad game, but to make a totally unfounded comment like that is just ridiculous  ;)

2 days ago, I platinumed Cross-Edge on the pS3!

However, since I'm planning on writing (my first!) a review for it, I'll probably need a few more days to finish-up all of the super-hard post-game & post-post-game, *CRAZY-TOUGH* Super-Bosses :)

I know that it's in no way considered mandatory, but, for myself, *I* wouldn't feel "right" writing a review for something that I didn't see/do everything in...

That's part of the reason why I don't write reviews - I'd feel bad writing one if I hadn't experienced everything... but I'm exactly the sort of person that *never* experiences everything, I haven't 100%'d a game in years!

My wife and I just finished Lego Batman 2. We got it to 1000/1000 on the 360.

Now we have begun Lego Pirates.
Mega Bloks: The Game?
I'd like to see a Duplo Star Wars.

Since so many people on my friends list were playing Borderlands 2... I decided to go and finish the last bits of Claptrap's Robot Revolution. Annoying, but I beat it on my own.

Now to go against Clawmerax.

Alone.

I'll be having to face off against Clawmerax alone too. But with Borderlands 2 out and my back log. I'm not sure when I'll get back around to finishing the achivements on Borderlands... Hell I still need to finish Assassin's Creed: Revelations before ACIII launches.

Demon's Souls was the less played out of the two and definitely received less love out of both of them. The reason for this was because it was PS3 exclusive, while Dark Souls was released on virtually everything. You don't need to be a hypocrite have a condescending attitude like that, especially after telling other people to show respect.

On topic, I also recently finished Demon's Souls with Upondoom. The game is fucking gold, I'd give it a 10/10 if I were to write a review for it. The symbolic bosses such as Maiden Astraea REALLY made the game, and the Storm King boss was a blast. I recently beat Fatal Frame 1, 3, and 4, and am continuing my playthrough of Project Zero 2 (Wii Version). The Fatal Frame games are definitely some of my favorite games of all time.

I only have one game in the series left to go. I got it at GOG a couple of days ago... no Steam achievements there, but it'll be worth it.

What a thought out argument to defend your statement.
If you ask someone, "Have you played Demon's Souls?" there's a more likely chance they'll say "No, but I've played Dark Souls!"

Most people I know who own PS3's have never played Demon's Souls. Either way, they're both really good games and anybody who doesn't play both is really missing out.

Do you know how many there will be?  I got Deception in the recent Indie bundle, but if the whole series might be bundled (and hopefully on sale), I might wait 'till then to dive into them.

The first three games were sold in an Indie Royale a year ago, before Deception was released.

All four games are sold as a pack at GOG and Steam. I actually bought the pack on GOG a few days before the indie bundle just to get Deception and the soundtracks... and look what happened. :P

The first three games are five bucks each at Steam, so they may be like, 75% off during Christmas. Be patient. :)

Haha, it's funny you mention that... I was playing a quick run of SF3 this weekend, and while it took a little while to take Gill out, I distinctly remembering thinking how much better I was doing against him compared to guys like Magaki or Omega Rugal. Frustrating as his revival crap is, I think he can only do it once in a match, so if you win the first round, and he revives and you lose in the second, you've pretty much got him by the third.

I haven't played Arkham City (yet?), but I seem to be one of the few people disappointed by Arkham Asylum. Great visuals and characters, but the dull "simon says" style combat and uninspired boss battles put me off quite a bit. It's far better than most licensed games, but I'd have rated it a fair bit lower than the 8-10 scores most people gave it. Decent enough for an easy, kick back and relax sort of thing, though.

Other than that annoyance, I enjoyed the game.

I finished the new Tomb Raider over the weekend. While it's not entirely like the other Tomb Raider games, I like it quite a bit. Put about 20 hours into it since I went back in after I finished to collect all the items and enter the tomb I missed. There aren't many tombs and they are very small. No elaborate puzzles in this game, just spot a few simple steps to get yourself up to a ledge and open a chest. There are more quick-timer events than I'd like but it's a good action game with a bit of a Lost (the TV show) feel to it. Great graphics and good voice acting too.

Just finished Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II for XBox.

Fantastic action-RPG that is a worthy successor to the first entry and was well worth the $30 purchase.

The third-to-last boss, the girl-turned vampire who was the first person you rescue in the game, was hard as heck! Harder than the vampire who turned her (second-to-last boss), and harder than the final boss! I had my armor enhanced to have 50% Ignore Knock-Back, yet nonetheless she was knocking me back and getting like 4-5 hits because of it for every 1 hit I'd give her. Luckily I had a lot of healing potions.

You know...I played the 1st one of these (on the PS2, though) & I have the (PS2 version of the) 2nd, that, eventually I'll get around to.

I've always wondered, though...*why* the ps2 version of this game almost always seems to go for double-triple the cost of what the exact same game on the X-box is going for...any ideas - smaller print-run; maybe?

Hey guys! I finished a game, holy crap!

Just finished Castlevania: Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate. It's a good game, and feels more like a Castlevania game than Lords of Shadow did. But the ending of it seems anti-climactic (if you beat it w/o 100%) anyway. I think it has to do with how they set up the story, it kinda plays backwards. Either way, I enjoyed it a lot more than Lords of Shadow and there weren't any chupacabras (yay)!

I'm gonna go through and quickly 100% it, then it's back to Etrian Odyssey.

how long to 100% it, Scott?

I finished it w/ 86% completion. I'm hoping only a couple more hours of searching, but I'm not sure.

I think it's because it's much, much, much easier to pirate stuff for the Xbox. :P

Ah...having never been much of an X-Boxer, I wouldn't have/didn't know that -but- it makes sense :P

What makes the PS2 games so much harder than the X-Box games?

There are way more PS2 models than Xbox models.

Since there are less Xbox models out there, the same modding / softmodding tools will work on most of 'em, unlike the PS2, which has many different models that blocked the modding / softmodding tools (no hard drive, removed bits on the motherboard, no support for booting off the memory card, etc.)

Also, I see people sell Xboxes with games in them down here all the time. The system is a pirate machine.

I think it is a number of factors. Chief among them is the preinstalled hard drive. This makes modding really fun for the community. There are a lot of neat possibilites that the hard drive creates. Also, I think a little bit of the community came over from the already decent Dreamcast modding community (ran Windows CE and shared a little bit of OS tech with the XBox). The XBox scene also just started off strong. Community projects feed off of itself. And the XBox has one of the best homebrew/mod scenes I have seen. And I am not just talking about the size of the community. The XBox mod scene is a GOOD community. When you've got a good/helpful community, the community will grow faster.

Kinda like the MAME/Arcade builder community at BYOAC. I rarely see a troll post pop up in project threads over there. When folks are helpful, the community is better for it.

It's just as easy on PS2. All it takes is a software install on a PS2 memory card.

I've always wondered the same thing about about BG: DA II on PS2. I think it's just because the PS2 is a much more popular system, so the game is more sought after on PS2.

Not if your PS2 was manufactured after a certain date. :P

Must be a pretty late date. I have a Slimline Model and that's what I used when I used to pirate. Don't do it anymore, though (personal moral choice).

Well, today I conquered Wizardry, kind of.  After many weekends filled with level grinding and graph paper I finally made the journey to defeat Werdna.  I defeated his guardians with almost no trouble, I was unstoppable. I found Werdna's lair, opened the door and saw this message:
"The Monsters Surprised You"
That was quickly followed by Vampires and Vampire Lords paralyzing and level draining me and Werdna wiping out most of the party with a Tiltowait spell.  JS the Samurai, Link the Samurai, Yar the Cleric, Q*Bert the Thief, Pac-Man the Mage, and Edgar Martinez the Wizard had been destroyed in two rounds of battle. Seeing the party I had spent probably close to 30 hours creating about to die, I panicked and hit reset.  I had not cheated in the game till that point, I had accepted all party wipes and made my own maps.

I will have my revenge when I play the PS1 remake.  I don't care how long it takes, how many characters die, or how much time I spend, I will destroy Werdna! >:(

Man, Pac-Pix, that sounds pretty cheap. I would have prolly hit reset too.

If that fight had been fair (usually the monsters don't surprise you) Level 10 of Wizardry probably would have been one of my most exciting and fun gaming experiences.  My heart skipped a beat every time I took a step or battled a guardian.

I'm not sure if "double-triple" is quite accurate, though. I just paid $25 plus shipping for my copy of BG: DA II on XBox, and it was one of the cheap ones on eBay. Last I saw, GameStop was selling the PS2 version for $35.99. Only $10 more.

Yeah, I should have been more specific - I was looking at/talking about the prices for the games still *sealed*; the last time that I looked...

EDIT

Just did a quick look on Amazon & there's less of a difference than there was last time I checked:

(Sealed #'s here):

PS2-version = (starting @) $121.15 and

X-Box-version = (starting @) $86.95

Just keep in mind that those are the *cheapest* ones...I didn't compare "like new" prices for the used ones, or anything...maybe I will - I'm curious now  :o

Well today I woke up still pissed off, so I decided to start Wizardry on the NES again.  My day went like this:
8:30- Wake up
8:40- Eat
8:50- Shower
9:00- Play Wizardry
10:00- Play Wizardry
11:00- Play Wizardry
12:00- Eat/Use internet
1:00- Play Wizardry/Listen to Mariners game
2:00- Play Wizardry/Listen to Mariners game
3:00- Play Wizardry/Listen to Mariners game
4:00-Play Wizardry
5:00-Eat
6:00-Drive
7:00-Play Wizardry
8:00- Play Wizardry
9:00-Play Wizardry
9:46- DESTROY WERDNA
10:00-Write post on vgcollect

Overall I level grinded the same enemy just over 600 times and since I already had the elevator ribbon I went straight to Werdna after that.  I have never been so determined to destroy a video game character ha. :)

Finished Castlevania: Mirror of Fate just now, with 100% completion. With 12:31 logged into the game. I enjoyed it, much more than Lords of Shadow. I'm hoping LoS2 doesn't disappoint.

Now, the cart can go back in the case and sit on display, until I pack it up to move.

Very fun campaign with slick production values, I enjoyed it. And best of all, Nathan Fillon was a voice-actor for one of the main characters! Still not quite as good as the main trilogy, though.

Heretic on PC.

Love the game. Just recently downloaded it off of Steam and it brought back a lot of nostalgia. From the looks of the map that shows in-between levels, though, the game seemed to skip one building. Is that normal, or is there something I have to do to get there?

I've since started HeXen, and despite all the improvements, I like Heretic better. I like the FPS style of gameplay it offered. There's too much melee combat in HeXen. Yeah, there's the mage, but it still doesn't feel the same. Oh well, it's still a fun game and I'm enjoying it as well.

I just now got around to finishing Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.  I had a blast with it.  It's not a real deep game.  It's good to just pickup and play for a few minutes after lunch before I have to get back to work.
