Title: Turf's Zero Edits Productions
Post by: turf on February 08, 2014, 01:43:16 pm
Do you like watching a grown man making internet videos like a teenage girl? Well, you've come to the right place. I'm going to start posting videos here. This is fun for me to do, but I want to make it better. Feel free to hit me up with some feedback. Just don't tell me I need to edit the videos. That ain't happening. I'm going to pretend it's artist integrity, but really I'm just lazy.
Now fresh off the request line, a first try with The Jetsons.

It was at about 8 this morning. I'm not that dedicated to drinking. I recently discovered "My Drunk Kitchen" on youtube. This chick gets shitty while cooking. My Drunk Gameroom? I need to get my wife to get into a bottle of wine with me and play something. That might be real funny.

Hahah, that George Jetson walking animation is hilarious. Nice work! Looking forward to seeing more :)

Nothing against you playing video games as I stopped the video a little over 2 minutes... It's just that seeing you play Jetsons made me remember the times when my childhood friend and I would play Chip 'N' Dale: Rescue Rangers. Enjoyed the fact that you referenced it too.
Question, though... Is the George Jetson pick-up,found after activating the anti-gravity switch, (around 2 minutes into the video) similar to Extra Life or 1-UP?
As for posting videos here... Are you allowing us requests for what your next game play-through will be and/or to feedback on your video production?

Yes! :) Love the video. I would like to state that I requested this video in case any one's wondering why Turf would start out with the Jetsons. I does seem like a cool game tho'. I got to get that with my tax money.
At least now we know when Nintendo thought about the Wii U GamePad lol

The George pick up is a 1-up. I got it on the next play through. Once I figured the game and controls out the game is pretty easy for the most part.
Feel free to throw out requests. I'd love to do something you guys would like to watch. I may not get to it right away, since I'm not making any kind of schedule promises. Feedback, good or bad, is appreciated too. Just be gentle. I'm delicate like a flower.

I guess I'll hold off on feedback/suggestions once I see more videos from you. For now, your first video is a mix of a short walkthrough and play run. Definitely staying away from the game, though... I'd rather get Chip 'N' Dale: Rescue Rangers.

For the money, I'd stick with Chip 'n' Dale. Not only is it a better game, it's 5x cheaper. The Jetson's was fun though. It was a lot better than I expected.

Whatever you yahoos want me to video on. I'm not going to rush out and buy something for this, but if I have it. I'll give you my 2 cents. I'll try to keep them short though.
Last night my son wanted to video himself playing a game. Keep in mind he's 4. I recorded 20+ min of us playing Contra. He wanted to put it up on YouTube so his momma could watch it on the TV. When I uploaded it, it only posted the last 5 min or so. I'll try again tonight. Playing Games With The Boy was born.

No need to pretend, I really like CRT footage with my LPs when they're done right, and you're doing it right. I'm sure a lot of other people would agree as well. Shooting the CRT just feels real since you never saw anything pixel perfect on NES games (rainbow banding, smearing, etc), so why bother using a capture card? Just don't let the pretentious people in the Let's Play community (cough, Something Awful forums) tell you how to record footage. Recording the screen is A-OK, and your camera in particular is good for that. I have a good feeling about your videos. It's nice to see LPers that don't scream "rape" or non sequiturs in their videos.
Little bit of feedback: Perhaps a little bit of information about the game you're playing, like a short preface about what company made it, when it came out, any special stories about it (of which Cogswell's Caper would have one for certain). Also, centering the camera with the TV would be a plus, you could sit to the side and play :p

Very nice! I had a chance to get a really nice Popeye cabinet the day I bought my Double Donkey Kong machine, but it alone was $800. Adding the Popeye would have put me way over $1000 that day, so I passed on it.

Turf, I swear you must have a secret camera in my house or something. Me and my wife I promise just did this exact same thing yesterday! We filmed ourselves going out and about thrift shopping and actual found a Centipede arcade for 175 at a Salvation Army; however, I do not have a truck or any way to haul it. Her phone ran out of memory or something and cut us off so we eventually stopped filming but very similar. Where did you hide that camera?
Oh and speaking of arcade, what is the best way to carry it? Do they bring it out on a dolly to your truck for you?

I don't hide the camera. I've never taken it into a store. I'm probably not going to unless I get a wild hair and want to talk to someone in there on camera.
I loaded it upright in the back if a pickup. Then I laid a blanket across the front and ran a ratchet strap across the control panel to the hooks in the bed of the truck.
As for loading it, I bought this off of craigslist. The dude I got it from helped me get it up in the back of the truck. A lot of them have wheels on the back. So, you just tilt it back and roll it. A dolly works great too.

Lol. Let us know if the Popeye arcade works when you get to try it out :)
Also, if I may ask, I only played a few arcades as a kid so Im not too intuned with them. Do they all come with a back? The one I seen locally Centipede did not have a back panel or anything. You could literally see the wires and the back of the monitor when viewing it from the back. I was not sure about it but it was only 150 or 175. And it looks so heavy to me and I feel I would break it in the course of transportation.
Can you give me any pointers on how to spot a good quality machine? And what are those motherboards for them I see on Ebay? To me, an arcade is just a big arcade machine you put in quarters and play.

I'd say that they all have back panels. There is some pretty high voltage stuff back there. If you didn't cover it up, some jackhole would fry themselves.
They are pretty heavy. That much wood and those heavy monitors add up to a couple hundred lbs. If you move it, stand it up in the back of a truck or on a trailer, strap that dude down, and take it easy in the corners.
As far as pointers, I don't have a whole lot. If it powers on, looks good, the monitor looks good, and the controls work; I'd buy it. $150 for a working Centipede is a steal. I'd still try to make an offer on it though.
Those boards on ebay are replacements out of cabinets that were trashed. Things wear out and have to be replaced. If you have a JAMMA cabinet (an effort to make arcade cabinets standard), you can swap out JAMMA boards to play different games pretty easy. I need one of those.

I went back yesterday and looked at it. It has the back to it. They had some other arcade machine for 375 but I cannot remember what it was. Some game I never heard of it. Can I borrow your truck and your huge muscle to come pick it up and haul it for me? lol. I tried to tilt it a little and I'm so weak that it would not even tilt for me. Not everyone is as big and strong as you. You must of ate some spinach before picking up the Popeye machine.

How IS Soera pronounced? Turf is asking the hard hitting questions!
I always just assumed Sora like Kingdom Hearts, but that's probably wrong.
Thanks for the Felix the Cat videos Turf. I picked this up last summer, but haven't had a chance to play it. The later levels look fun! Did you ever beat it?

Yeah. I finished it just after the videos. I paid a little more attention to what was going on. I ended up finishing with 32 extra lives. It's a fun game that you can blow right through.

Considering what you said that you blew through the game with 32 extra lives makes me think of renting the game at best. Buying the game for my collection, I'll pass.

Also, good luck with your plea to Nintendo.

If I had a Master System, I'd probably get Ninja Gaiden but since you explained that the game is somewhat of a sequel... I'll hold off on it.
As for your unboxing... I believe the PS3 version, if available, gives more bang for the buck considering that, if I remember correctly, there are more extras to be had. Didn't know you posted an unboxing video beforehand, but when I saw that the version you bought was the Xbox 360 version, I instantly found a topic to talk about with you.
As usual, if not yet mentioned, your video game collection looks awesome in the background!
Title: Re: Turf's Zero Edits Productions

It's a loose sequel. It really has nothing to do with the other games. The only mention is that "While Ryu was in America, shit popped off ". Really though, do we care about the story? ;)
I guess I'll have to look at the PS3 version of the Street Fighter Collection. I'd like to know what else they could cram into this box. There is a lot if stuff in there.
My Last Corner of the World is a mess right now. You can see about 20 NES and 10 SNES games just stacked up. I have got to do something about shelving. I mean, there is a box on NES boxes in the floor.

It's easy to remember stuff like that when you only have 2 channels. That's what I watched everyday after school. After turtles, Andy Griffith came on. So, then I went outside to play.

Nice video Turf! Widget actually looks pretty fun. Challenging but not brutal from the looks of it.
I was really surprised when you turned it on and I saw Atlus at the bottom.

First we're going to start with the other video I did about going to Retropalooza

Do a Mario Kart-a-thon. Go through every Mario Kart. If you're hardcore enough do the (arguable) pre-cursor, Famicom Grand Prix II: 3D Hot Rally (http://vgcollect.com/item/44354).

Thanks for the idea.
I'll do it. It'll have to be a series of videos, since I don't edit anything. I can and will do it. The DS and 3DS versions will have to wait. I don't have anyway to get them on the TV. Also, I don't have a Famicom.

Turf, Im speechless. I cant believe you dont like Sonic on the Genesis :'(
I totally get it. Sonic 1 is one of my favorite side strollers of all time but I pass on the rest. The more they added to it with the sequels the less I liked it.

I enjoy Sonic, but I always feel like I am missing a lot of the level since you are running so fast through everything. Love the music though, especially in the second area. I'll take Super Mario World on SNES over Sonic any day though. Also on a side note if that Super Hydlide is complete I know some weird guy who actually enjoys Hydlide who could buy it from you.

My wife and I made a trip to DFW for RETROPALOOZA 2014. Last night we sat down and tried to recall everything that happened on this whirlwind of a weekend. Kick your shoes off, this is kind of a long one, but it is chock-full of convention goodness.

Again great job on the vid. :P

Yeah sometimes the people that collect the trash non-collectors sell it way beyond profit margin just to get every last dime out of your pocket..I can't stand that people buy a game worth 5 and sell it for 20 ...it's hard to find people that are actually honestly giving you a fair deal.
By the way He-man

Just in the last couple of weeks I found a video that explained how to do it. It's not hard at all now. You use A to lean frontward and B to lean back. It makes things work. I don't remember who did the video or how to find it. It's on YouTube if that narrows it down any. :P

I'll see if I have an extra. I think I do.
If you do let me know what you want for it.
I saw it at the local shop here once for $5 and stupidly passed it up.
Looked it up online and everyone seems to think it's a pretty good game.
Haven't seen it again since. (except on the ebays).
Rescue Rangers is great I use to play the hell out of that game but I never beat it I would always run out of lives and got tired of starting over and over... My cousin use to come over and jump in and try to get pass certain parts but still no luck on beating the game.. It's been a really long time since I played but I might just play again and see how far I can get today.

I'm glad y'all like it so far. Chapter 2 is filmed and Chapter 3 is ready to be filmed. This is a huge undertaking. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't put myself on a schedule; but if I don't make myself do it, I'll be doing this for a year. I'm looking at 21 chapters. I'm 1/7 of the way there.
You fine folks can look forward to a new chapter every Tuesday with the possibility of a bonus chapter sometime toward the end of the week.

You think that now, but Chapter 4 ended up being 24 min. I'm a little long winded when I get to stuff I like. :P
I am already familiar with 99% of the NES lineup and own 95% of the titles I want for it. I'm watching for 2 reasons.
1) maybe you'll mention one of the 1% I never heard of. 2) I want to see your take on them.
It's especially interesting when your oppinion of a game clashes with the majority.

I got a kick out of your wife's "you're gonna get it up" coment in episode 3.

Did you get Bonk before or after it skyrocketed to retarded prices? My local shop has a copy here for $350!

I'll keep that in mind about the cats. You can hear them scratching at the door in most of the videos I've done. One doesn't like closed doors and the other one waits for me to sit down just so she can get in my lap.
I got Bonk about a year and a half ago, I think. I can't remember if it was last spring or the one before. It was when it was on it's crazy climb. My wife, God bless her, sold a bunch of purses on eBay and used the money to get if for me. I think she paid around $225 in used purses. ;)
I really appreciate y'all watching these videos. It's really fun for us to do. It gives me a real purpose to play all these silly games. I've found quite a few that I need to go back and spend some real time with and I'm only through the C's.
Just stick with me, kid. I'm going drive this train all winter long. At this rate, I'm figuring on being done around the middle of February.

Chip And Dale awesome game... Never played the second one but I am sure it's great... I don't have Castlevania ... Not because I don't want it.. Just haven't found it for a good price.. When I was growing up my dad would buy me second hand games from kids around the neighborhood that were tired of playing them.. Didn't really get good games just commons... As of now the games for NES haven't really changed because I am to busy buying the new games ... I have seen it played at a friends house and played with him and I really do like it ... Just personally don't own it... I do have Castlevania for 64 ... Haven't had a chance to play it yet though...
Again great video ;)

I'm definitely a fan of Conquest of the Crystal Palace too. I was way surprised how good it was when I randomly bought it and played it. That's one thing I love about NES games. You see them so cheap sometimes, why not pick it up, could be terrible, or it could be good. Always a surprise :).
I've been a fan of Crystalis since I was a kid. I recently played through it again and I felt it still held up. Definitely a fun game.

Contra Super C River City Ransom
and some others I can't remember right now.

I'm glad it helps. Keep in mind these are just my opinions of these games. I'm by no means the authority. I'm just some dude who needed to work through his backlog and has had a lot fun sharing that with 20-50 people. There are types of games that I don't like that you may love. I'm not an RPG fan... at all. They're not bad games. It's just not my style. Just because my wife has fervent hatred for Deadly Towers doesn't mean you won't like it. (Wait, scratch that. You won't like it.) ;)
Between you and me, can you keep a secret? If you can lean in real close... Before you get real spendy on a game, emulate it and see if you like it. If you want to play it some more, hunt down a cart.
I appreciate all of you fine folks giving me thumbs ups and encouragement. It honestly makes me feel good. Thank you.

It is amazing that your wife sits through these things and takes the time to hand you these games 1 at a time on the NES series. She's a keeper!

At first that's all she did. If you go back to the first videos, you'll see her read her part then hand it to me. Not anymore. She's right in there playing the games and giving her 2 cents. This is less "My" video thing, and more "Our" video thing.
She has a lot less preconceived notions about most of these games. It's a fresh look.
*Edit: Yeah, she's a keeper

I would love to lie and say its about artist integrity and I want to do something different. But it really comes down to one simple fact: Editing is hard. I don't have time, patience, or talent. What I do have is a love of games and the gift of gab. It also doesn't hurt that I like to hear myself talk. ;D
Thanks for watching. I'll keep trying to put out stuff that a handful of people like to watch. As cheesy as it sounds, it really makes me feel good to know that a few cool people like what I do.

I would like to suggest that you create a playlist on your channel for all these review videos. That way I can share the link to the whole collection and not just one video. :) It also makes it easier for new comers to binge watch :)

I started doing that. I guess I got sidetracked. I'll try to remember to do that tonight.
*Edit: It's done. It was surprisingly easy to do from my phone. Usually the YouTube app is useless.

Editing hard? Please. Time consuming? Yes. Hard? No. Try rigging and animating.

Editing isn't hard. I taught myself how to edit. As long as your able to put "the pieces of the puzzle" together you got yourself a video! Yeah it can be time consuming, the simplest videos I did took me up to 2 hours at most.
Animation Hard? I bet it takes a while but have you tried Stop Motion with real action figures? It can be a pain especially if they fall over then what? Stop Motion was the first project I did on YouTube and it took me 6 hours for 30 seconds worth of footage! But anyone who can animate is a genius in my mind.

It depends on the platform.
Editing in iMovie on a mac is pretty easy and even fun.
Editing on a PC can be a massive pain in the bawls because nothing on PC comes close to iMovie (for ease of use).
I use Premiere Pro and After Effects on the PC but it's quite expensive to maintain and the learning curve was huge.

Great video as usual. :) These are great for building up an NES wishlist. It's too bad collecting for the NES is getting harder and more expensive. :(
Well, if you only want the good ones; it won't be too bad. If they're expensive, I would suggest emulating it first. Make sure you like it.

Thats one of the best things about NES collecting. If you want the good games, all of them are in the under $100 range. :)

Great vid again Turf! I am also a really big NES fan .. i would love to collect them all.. Do you collect the unlicensed games also? After your done all of the vids I am going to go back and get a list together .. Although I am far behind when I have the extra cash I will be hopefully getting my NES collection back up and running.. I have 61 I know it's small but when I was a kid my dad would buy all the nes games around the neighborhood...the kids that were quick to play a game and want a brand new one .. I would get there second hand games and my dad would actually be able to afford them..my kids just started playing my NES I just got done cleaning it and all my games ... Let me tell you it plays a hell of a lot better after cleaning it.. My daughter loves duck hunt and my son loves mario.. Thanks again for the vids..
Sorry for rambling just thought I would give you some extra feedback since all I usually say is great vid.

No need to be sorry. Ramble on. I have several unlicensed games. Outside of the Tengen games, I can think of 1 unlicensed game that is fun; and that's Micro Machines. There are a few that aren't bad, but not anything I would seek out.
I'm glad you're passing the love of older games down to the kiddies. They need it. My 5 year old is hung up on playing Rockin' Kats right now. He sits down with it several times a week. Kids can spot fun real quick.
As always, I'm glad you like the videos. It's cool that people like to hear my silly rambling. :D

My son is 7 he is a video game monster ... I have to keep an eye on how long he plays ..lol he does play outside and sports and does great in school so a little video game time is not a bad thing. It helps stimulate the mind lol... My daughter is 5 she just likes pressing buttons right now..lol.. ;D
I think I remember playing Micro Machines before it was a pretty decent game .. Have you thought of doing a review for the unlicensed games that you own?

When this is all over, I may run through the ones I have; but since the ones I have is such a random assortment, I may just do the Tengen ones. I have all of those.

Honestly, I don't know how much most of this sells for. I don't keep up. I also don't remember what I've paid for most of this either. I would guess it'd be something like $5 per game. Bonk's Adventure and Chip 'n Dale 2 are only pricey games I've paid full retail on (I think). I'm cheap.

Luckily it hadn't struck me. The boy had it bad though. Now, his momma is feeling puny. I'm hoping she didn't catch his flu. If she did, it'll be in full force on Christmas.
