Off Topic / What Was the Last Good Band/Singer You Discovered?
« on: October 24, 2013, 08:38:47 pm »
Share your latest musical discovery that you think should be shared with the world right here.

I don't know about you, but I think it's awesome when I discover a new band I fall in love with. And if it's a relatively unknown band, then I like to share it with others. I'd also like to see what you guys are into and if it'll lead to something good for me as well.  ;D

I think most of you know that I'm a big metal-head. So it won't come as any surprise that my pick is a metal band:

Fantastic metal band with that sounds a lot like In Flames with some Pantera and Killswitch Engage influence mixed in there. I recently picked up their album "Mind Tricks" and I can't stop listening to it. The entire album is actually up on YouTube:

My absolute favorite song by them right now, is on the same album, it's called "A Taste of Collapse"

If you're into In Flames, Scar Symmetry, All That Remains, or Killswitch Engage; then check these guys out.

Off Topic / Let's Name Our 100 Favorite Movies Together
« on: October 22, 2013, 01:57:51 pm »
Remember the old "Let's List" threads? It's been a while, and it's about time for another.

Let's name our 100 favorite movies together.

For those that don't remember the rules:

-Please only list 1 movie at a time.
-Please wait for another member to list a movie before listing another one.
-Please use each movie only once. No repeats.
-Please try and copy and paste the list as we go, it's easier to keep track of what has already been said that way.
-Finally, this list is a build-as-we-go list, it's not supposed to be in order of greatness

Can we also agree to keep this list to English spoken, English-dubbed, and English-subtitled movies?

I'll go first:

1. Terminator 2: Judgment Day

Off Topic / What's That 1 Thing You Always Wanted as a Kid but Never Got?
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:09:25 pm »
Me and some friends recently had this conversation, and some cool stuff was brought up. Sega Master System, DC Comics Super Powers action figures, Power Wheels, etc.

I'm sure most you guys have to have something like this from your childhood. I'd imagine most of us didn't grow up rich, or anything.

For me, it was this:

Being an adult now and seeing that package, I'm sure it was cheap and crappy and I would have been disappointed. But as a kid, after seeing the commercial on T.V. for it, and loving The Real Ghostubster Saturday morning cartoon; I had it completely built up in my head. On the commercial it showed these plastic toy ghosts actually getting sucked into the trap, and that just sounded so cool to me. I already had the toy Proton Gun w/Backpack, and the toy ghost finder radar thingie. I would have had the enitre get-up! I could have been the next Ghostbuster!

Off Topic / Trading Websites
« on: October 03, 2013, 09:23:26 pm »
I wanted to bring this up for 2 reasons:

1. Who here is an active member of trading websites?

If you want to share, which ones and what's your member name (for reference to other potential traders reading this thread)?

I'm on GameTZ, same name, BurningDoom (100% feedback!).

2. The real reason I wanted to start this was to see if I could get some directions to a good site for my needs.

I'm already a member of GameTZ. Which is a great place to trade games on. But I've nearly exhausted my stock of game tradeables that anyone's interested in.

However I have a TON of comics in great condition to trade. AND I'm looking more for hard rock/metal CDs at the moment than I am games.

I really want to find a site that's good for cross-trading these items. Someone who wants comics, and has CDs to trade; for this example.

GameTZ does have some of this stuff. But the non-gaming listings are VERY incomplete and often when they are listed are flat-out wrong on some of the details. And most of the people on that site really don't have a lot that's non-gaming related.

Any suggestions? Thanks.  :)

Off Topic / Mortal Kombat: Legacy
« on: September 18, 2013, 10:22:34 pm »
I'm sure everyone here already knows about this, and I'm completely late to the party.

But, has everyone here checked out the Mortal Kombat: Legacy web-series yet (by Machinma)? I recently saw an ad for season 2 on my Facebook, and I hadn't even heard of season 1. So I went back and watched a couple episodes.

Damn is it good! Way freaking better than that USA Network live-action MK series. It had some decent, known-actors in it (including Jeri Ryan (7 of 9 on ST: Voyager)). It had good production values. And a very stylized-look to it; much darker and more violent. Very cool. Check it out.

Off Topic / Thoughts and Prayers, Please
« on: September 10, 2013, 08:56:48 pm »
So there's a huge fire burning west of my city, that is still out of control and has burned 12 square miles, with deaths, and structures destroyed.

My uncle's house, where I spent a lot of time with my cousins growing up, burned completely to the ground. He lost everything. It would be appreciated if your thoughts and prayers could go out to him. He's the nicest guy you'd ever meet, he'd give you the shirt off of his back; it's a shame this happened to him.

Off Topic / Are You A Geek?
« on: September 09, 2013, 05:01:15 pm »
I ask this, because it's often assumed that gamers are geeks, but that's not always the case. Some gamers simply play video games but never get into other "geeky" stuff like D&D, comic books, or Star Wars.

If you are, what other kind of geeky stuff are you into?

Personally, I'm a HUGE comic book fan. I think most of you already know that, and my avatar kind of gives it away. I've read comics for as long as I can remember; I started on my dad's collection when I was real small (just looked at the pictures back then). I pretty much read mainstream DC & Marvel super-hero comics and follow both pretty closely, purchases several titles from each company each month. My favorite obviously being Green Lantern.

I'm also a big sci-fi geek. Movie/T.V. sci-fi geek. I used to read a lot of sci-fi novels when I was younger, but not so much anymore. I particularly love 80s sci-fi (Predator, Terminator, Aliens, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, etc.), but I can enjoy good sci-fi from any era. And I really like Star Trek TNG & Voyager, Stargate: Atlantis, and Sliders.

And finally, I'm a horror movie geek. Not nearly as much as I used to be when I was younger, but I still check out scary movies from time to time. But I particularly focus on the gore era of the 70s and 80s. The bloodier and cheesier, the better. I really enjoy the Nightmare on Elm Street series, George Romero's "of the Dead" films, The Lost Boys, Night of the Demons, etc.

Classic Video Games / How Is Your Dreamcast Gaming Going?
« on: September 08, 2013, 02:16:29 am »

How is your Sega Dreamcast gaming going? Post whatever related to it, here.

The Sega Dreamcast, Sega's console swan-song. Many gamers praise it for it's unique library of games, and superior multiplatform title; as well as it's unique, Sega style.

Personally, I'm a big fan of the console. Still not as good as the PS1, during it's time, IMO; but I thought it was the next best console back then (as in I liked it more than N64 and Saturn). And I had one when it was new. I sold my original console when I moved on to the original XBox. But I re-bought one a few years later.

I recently added some essential titles to my Dreamcast collection, ones that many of you guys probably already have, but were pretty cool for me to add to the collection: Marvel vs. Capcom, Quake III: Arena, and Dead of Alive 2. I LOVE Marvel vs. Capcom. It's like my favorite fighting game of all-time. So it was such a cool addition. And Dead or Alive 2 just looks gorgeous for a Dreamcast game. I used to have all 3 of these games in my original Dreamcast collection, when the console was still current.

Classic Video Games / How Is Your SNES Gaming Going?
« on: September 03, 2013, 03:46:10 am »

How is your Super Nintendo gaming going? Post whatever related to it, here.

SNES is one of my all-time favorite console. Depending on my mood, the SNES and NES duke it out for my #1 favorite console of all-time spot. Some of the best games ever made were on this system. And it has a comfortable, sturdy controller as well as very reliable hardware.

It's a shame that SNES collecting has becoming so expensive, lately, though. It used to be one of the consoles that was actually cheaper to collect for (not counting the always expensive JRPGs), which used to be a big plus for the system. Oh well, glad I'm got some of the best titles on the system, while they were still affordable.

I just recently downloaded Secret of Mana and Super Mario RPG on Wii Virtual Console. Soooo much hype surrounding those games. I really hope they can live up to the expectations.
