anyone else get their blind boxes yet?

i got octodad ps4 and dragon fantasy vita.

Not what I was hoping for but that's what you get when you order a blind box.  At least I didn't have dragon fantasy on vita.  I have an extra copy of Octodad if anyone wants to trade.

Just got my copy.  I'm happy it finally arrived but I don't think I'll ever order from iam8bit again.  Packaging is pretty blah.  For what they charged they could have tried a bit harder. At least I have the game.

I beat God of War: Ghost of Sparta on Vita (PSP) last night.  One of the better God of War titles I have played.  The fire mechanic spiced up the combat significantly.  Magic was awkward to use due to the control scheme.  Have a soft spot for this series, even though the games all literally play the same.

I also beat Dark Cloud on PS4 (PS2), this was a game I played a ton as a kid but never finished.  I got a few floors away from beating the Dark Genie and then my save file corrupted so I never beat it.  Saw it was on sale a few weeks ago and told myself I needed to see the end.  Breezed through most of the game from memory, (games are a lot harder when you are 12) and beat the Dark Genie on the first try.  Terrible camera for that fight, I somehow made it through alright.  For those unfamilar, it's a firs gen action rpg w/ rogue like elements on the PS2.  There's also worldbuilding elements ala Actraiser.  There's no leveling at all for the characters, merely upgrading weapons but you have to watch your weapon hp or it will break and you lose the weapon forever.  Since you usually focus on building an ultimate weapon for each character, a weapon break calls for an instant game reset.  The sequel is a far superior game but for me, this game has a lot of charm and I'm glad I finally got to see the end.

I've had to severely cut back on collecting and hunting since I've gone back to school but this November has been particularly kind to me.  This habit is hard to quit.

I have cut back on buying new releases for the most part but I picked up the Pokemon Sun/Moon Steel Book pack and have been dutifully been keeping up with the Limited Run releases.

A few weeks ago, I was able to snag a copy of Under Defeat: HD Edition PS3 and ZOE: HD collection Limited Edition PS3 for $25 total and I was able to get Zelda: Skyward Sword w/ Soundtrack CD and a bunch of shovelware Wii games for $10 but this may be my haul of the year.

Found a guy that sold me all of this for $200

MGS V PS4 collectors edition sealed
MGS HD Collection LE PS3 sealed
MGS: The Essential Collection PS2 sealed
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance LE ps3 opened but CIB
Metal Gear Rising Revengeance strategy guide opened
Metal Gear Solid 4 limited edition opened but CIB
Metal Gear Solid 4 strategy guide opened
Metal Gear Saga Vol. 1 and 2 sealed
and most importantly and the main thing I wanted:
Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence limited edition (red cover) sealed
+MGS4 bluetooth earpiece
+Sealed Copy of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes PS4
+ 2XL Metal Gear Solid 4 T-Shirt thrown in because why not.  Really nice guy, for any Portlanders, he's also selling this really impressive Halo collection, check craigslist.

Now to convince my girlfriend that I need even more shelving in our house for a MGS shrine... haha

I finished SMT IV: Apocalypse.  It was fantastic.

So much better than SMT IV: in every way.  My only complaint is that the game is too long.  Everything else, including the battle system, map navigation, story are all much improved.  I've never played a game before where without much grinding you reach level 100 before you reach any of the end game content.  Might come back to play some of the endgame content another day but for now, I need a break from SMT.

Fun day at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo!  So much haggling and deals.

Some highlights

Armored Core PS1 - $5
Mario Kart Double Dash GC -$20
Super Mario Sunshine GC- $30
Sky Gunner PS2- $30
The Raiden Project PS1- $30
and so many ps1 games for cheap

Also the Limited Run guys were there and selling all of their remaining stock for $25 a game.  Snagged one of the last few copies of Futuridium PS4.  They did not have any Oddworld copies unfortunately. :(  They have a ton of extra copies of some of the more recent releases.

Going back for Day 2 tomorrow.

I've played all 3 major vr systems, (vive, oculus and psvr) and I just ordered a psvr system off amazon that is coming next week.

In terms of which technically delivers the best experience, the vive wins hands down.  Being able to walk and move around in vr is just incredible and adds a whole new dimension to games.  I played a fps at pax prime this year where I had to contort my body to duck in and out of cover while robots were shooting at me.  I was kneeling and moving from side to side dodging bullets.  It was exhilarating.  Oculus and psvr don't allow for that same range of movement.  The vive controllers are also way better than the new oculus touch controllers.  However, the vive requires a relatively expensive pc build and also enough space to set up the trackers for the playing area.  I have neither the computer nor a big enough area for a vive so it's not a realistic vr option for me.

With that said, there are still a lot of great immersive vr experiences that don't require any moving around.  PSVR may be a technically inferior vr experience but that does not mean that it's still not a whole lot of fun.  A lot of reviews have been bashing the tracking and the resolution and while those are valid complaints, it is not enough to completely ruin the experience.  As long as you set up the psvr correctly and tweak the settings, everything will work pretty well.  The camera and the move controllers are old tech as well so they can be a bit finicky.  The system works better in darker rooms so it can more readily detect the light of the system and the controllers.

If you already own a vive or an oculus, it would be silly to buy a psvr, but if you want a relatively affordable vr experience that with tempered expectations is still a ton of fun, then you should pick one up.

If you need money, you might want to charge a bit more than $2.50 for crash bandicoot.

The games will probably be gone after today or so. I wouldn't want to use the words "too many copies" considering how others in this thread have had issues with getting a copy of a game when it goes on sale. From what I've read, the numbers of copies printed are based on the publisher's wishes, so it sounds like the publishers were able to gauge the need pretty well so that folks could get a copy without stressing too much.

Yeah, I'm sure that they won't last much longer.  But I am surprised since nearly every release before this one has sold out almost instantly for the most part (the larger print runs notwithstanding).  Specifically the vita releases.  I'm happy that no one here was shut out again that wanted a copy, I just thought the growing popularity of these releases week after week and scalpers trying to resell would mean no release would ever still be available more than 24 hours.

I finally beat SMT IV.  The release for Apocalypse snuck up on me and I realized I never beat the original.  Rushed through the last 15 hours or so.  Remembered why I initially set this game aside.  The map and navigation are awful, I constantly could not figure out where to go next.  I get that the game doesn't want to hold your hand but they could at least label the overworld map!  I skipped lots of side quests because I couldn't figure out where to go.  Combat is still good like previous SMT games, if a bit simplistic and exploitable near the end.  The different end game paths are fun and I enjoyed the ending.  Overall, a fun game but so many frustrating and baffling design choices.  I've heard that Apocalypse addresses a lot of those concerns so I'm excited to give it a spin.

Just got an email that said both PS4 and vita versions of the games this week are still available and all purchase limits have been removed.  Maybe they printed too many copies this time?

Particularly proud of this haul today. I unexpectedly heard back from a guy on CL saying he would sell me black label versions of Twisted Metal 1 and 2 for 10 bucks total.  Had to drive about 30 miles but totally worth it.  The black label jewel version for twisted metal is incredibly hard to find.

On the way back, swung by my favorite retro store and got some cib n64 games for a good price and also picked up Arx Fatalis, King of Fighters '99, The Godfather and The Hobbit all for super cheap as well.
