If he paid sticker price- no that's about market price if not a few bucks higher- but if he was able to do a bundle deal- then he probably did ok.

General / Re: Your 2025 Gaming and Collecting Goals
« on: January 18, 2025, 02:40:31 pm »
I just realized I never set goals for 2024- whoops.

My goal for 2025 was to finish another set and I have already done that with my acquisition of Keio Flying Squadron to finish my Sega CD set so I guess my goal for this year is to finish another set!

Genesis- 13 left
32X- 2 left
Sega Master System- 1 left
Lynx- 9 left
Atari Jaguar CD- 1 left
N64- 25 left

I'd also love to acquire at least another 20-25 cib each of nes and snes to whittle my list down. And get my wishlist here down to under 75.  I know the majority on here are all about slowing down, purging, etc.. but I'm full steam ahead- I want it all!

I will also have some paternity leave this year so hoping I have some more time to game (after all parental responsibilities are handled- they may be up every few hours but there is also a lot of down time- babies sleep a lot...)

There's no way I can beat 52 games- I beat 12 last year- let's shoot for 20- that's a good stretch goal.

Thanks to my Secret Santa for doing a fantastic job!  I'm really close to a complete North American retail library of Sega Genesis games and now I'm 3 games closer (18 to go).  I know I'm not easy to buy for so I really appreciate my Secret Santa going out of their way to get games off my wishlist.

Also am glad to see my recipient is happy with their package too.  Seems like another successful year! Thanks again for dhaabi doing an amazing job organizing this great event!

Site Feedback / Re: didnt get the 4k badge

It should be automatic.

Your profile also says you don't have any edits. DB backend confirms this. Have you never actually edited an item before?

I don't know how that could be true- I've edited several items and even added a few new listings over the years.  Hell- I submitted some edits a few weeks ago that I worked out with dhaabi for the Ishido/ou series.

I can't explain the name thing- I just created a username 7+ years ago- until you pointed out the capitalized name- I didn't even notice that mine was and most others are not.

This might be an embarrassing question but how do you get badges? I also have over 4k games and I don't have a badge.  My profile says I have no badges.

Can we compromise and edit it to be Ishidō?

When I rejected your submissions, I was under the impression that we prioritized transliteration over transcription, but this seems to be only relevant regarding JP items. So, NA and EU entry pages have been reverted back to Ishidō, whereas JP entry pages maintain Ishidou.

Several of the entries were previously titled Ishidō: The Way of the Stones which is incorrect, so there should be greater uniformity now.

Thanks for updating!  The uniformity is appreciated.

I resubmitted the edits for both the genesis and lynx versions to Ishidō

Alright I need to know why my edit for Ishido: The Way of Stones was rejected for Genesis.

I understand there's a character mark above the o so it should pronounced as ou

But on the box it is not spelled Ishidou- anyone trying to search this game is going to spell it as Ishido as that is clearly what is shown on the box.

I had to manually search Genesis to find the game as I had no idea I needed to search Ishidou and not Ishido.  That seems flawed.

Also- all the other versions of this game in the database is Ishidō- the gameboy version is not spelled Ishidou- it's spelled Ishidō.  It should not be different.

Can we compromise and edit it to be Ishidō?

I would be in favor of a later deadline such as- needs to be delivered to the recipient by Christmas-

It's also nice to be able to shop for my recipient on black friday- usually the best deals of the year both online and at my local game stores- so I can maximize their gift.

Local FB Collector Groups, Regional FB groups, ebay, Game Conventions, local game stores- so many great options in the PNW!

I'm guilty of spending more time in facebook game groups and local communities.  I think the problem as some have pointed out is that the forums use old tech and it's hard to go back to them when there are other communication options that give more immediate feedback.  For example- uploading pictures of recent pickups.  In a local facebook group- it takes a minute or two.  But here, I have to upload each picture to imgur, then click the image link and make sure the formatting is correct so it actually displays.  It just takes too long so I stopped.

I still like participating in the Secret Santa and I really enjoy the database features the site offers so I still hope to be a part of this community for a long time to come.  I just might not be as talkative as other members.

Disco Elysium has one of the best game stories I've ever played.  It's too bad the company fell apart, I would have loved to see what future projects would look like.

The only expectation any recipient should have is that you are guaranteed to receive at least $60 worth of videogames or videogame related items before shipping that is not a duplicate of anything you own on your vgcollect profile, is in the region you prefer, and is on your wishlist if that is what you express to the organizer.

If a Secret Santa wants to exceed the $60 threshold- they should be free to do so- but the expectation should not be that everyone has to do so- otherwise what's the point of even having a minimum.

Meant to post this earlier.

Thanks Secret Santa (cartagia)

Some of these game selections might seem a bit suspect but it was upon my request!  I bought a bunch of box/manual only from a friend recently and have been trying to track down the loose carts.  My SS did a great job at helping me knock quite a few off my list.  Glad others enjoyed their gifts, hope you all have a great rest of 2023.
