Age of Empires: Mythologies...that's a new one to me.

It is a Nintendo DS game. The creation date used on the entry matched the DS release date. It is merged to here: https://vgcollect.com/item/16099

My personal feelings are that for digital games, Description should be for where the game is available from (if in the general category), if the game is not available anymore, what controllers or hardware it supports, languages, etc. Then the Box Text can be the short description from that site's game page. Like for Steam, there is a short description under the small banner on the top right.

But either way, URLs should not be in either field.

Removed.

Any idea how you made it?

We are in no way claiming this text to be our own.

There is nothing to say we are not. I am referring specifically to this as a website issue, not as a general copyright one. Copypasta from another website, in its entirety is known to effect search rank, among other things.

Copying text from a box is a different matter. We clearly indicate that this is text from a box. When it is a digital game, we do not indicate this is text from another website, nor what that website is. It is allowed for a website to take in whole a block of text from another website if it is cited as such. So a digital game would not say "box text" it would say "game description from steampowered.com" or whatever.

Digital games also have a problem where their descriptions can change over time, or be removed entirely. The text on a box can never change. I don't think we need to try to keep the digital game entries up to date with the correct description that is on another website. Instead perhaps in the future, box text can not even be an entry field for a digital game, and instead you can put a link to the store that game is located at instead.

Maybe some other ideas can be put here, aside the plagiarism thing, I think it is the wrong word in the style guide, but it means to take the content from another website, and you are right, there is not a way for us to pretend someone here actually typed it themselves. Unfortunately, the internet doesn't work that way, it is implied that all websites own the content they create unless specified otherwise. You see this all the time when a website gets in trouble.

So we need to determine if we are allowed to use description from another website for a digital game (the plagiarism thing) and if we are supposed to be using Box text field at all (the rule conflict).

The Style Guide has conflicting rules for digital games and box text.

Quote
The Box Text is the synopses that is on the back of the game packaging. This should be written into this field, and no other notes, or descriptions. If the game is a download title from services, such as Steam, XBLA, PSN, GoG.com, etc. Then the synopsis would be found on those service's official pages.
The Description field should be notes about the games packaging variants/ pack ins/ collector's edition details. Or trivia about the games release, such as if it is a launch title, last title, a very limited release,  etc. This should not be filled with store descriptions describing the gameplay or hyping up the title. Plagiarizing descriptions from other sources will not be tolerated and will be deleted.

Digital games lack a traditional box, and so they also lack box text. In this case, we can use the description text from the source as the box text. For example, if I were to add The Simpson's Arcade Game to the database, the box text would be the summary that is listed on Xbox.com.

There are two issues.
1. That no box text should be entered because it can be found on the official site, or you can put the official description into box text.
2. That plagiarizing descriptions from other sources will not be tolerated, therefore the description as it appears on another site is not allowed on the entry.

Disc rot is rare outside of Laser Disc's and very early CD pressing from certain manufacturing plants in the early to mid 80’s. I’ve actually acquired a CD this year from a Goodwill which had a huge amount of disc rot.

How's this for disc rot. Disc 1 from The Rolling Stones Hot Rocks CD I found at a Goodwill. The other disc had it too but not nearly as bad.

That's not disc rot. That is what I described with the top reflective layer (or artwork) coming off. This occurs with CDs because the top printed layer is the reflective layer. Unlike DVDs or newer formats that have plastic above the reflective layer.
Disc rot looks like this:

or

I have no yet found myself to own any disc with actual disc rot. When it comes to actual manufacturing errors, I have only had discs that experience bronzing.

Disc Rot itself seems fairly uncommon, as it is only widely known to have effected pressed CDs and LaserDiscs from a specific plant in England in the early 90s. Disc Rot has no bearing on how the disc is stored, as it occurs within the sealed layer of the disc.

I would check the top layer for defects. The top layer on most discs also provide a reflective surface. A lot of CD or DVD lasers will have problems if portions of this are removed, even if it is just a single whole or larger patches, even though the data layer itself is still good and free of defect. I have experienced top layer deterioration on various formats such as Marvel vs Capcom on Dreamcast, some Sega CD games, music CDs, etc.

Disc warping is a thing, but I have not seen a slightly warped disc have a problem being read. The worst you would get from an actual warped disc is that it will physically break at some point during the spin, due to it not being balanced.

Puzzle Bobble should be listed as Neo Geo MVS [EU].
https://vgcollect.com/item/44466

If you have the game with "Puzzle Bobble" not written in Japanese, you have a European cart.

It is moved.

Second point, not necessarily. Puzzle Bobble has more boots than a lot of other MVS carts.

Modern Video Games / Re: Do you focus on Achievements/Trophies?
« on: March 21, 2017, 12:27:59 pm »
I have run into some instances where you cannot get an achievement anymore, but they aren't disabled.

Nuclear Dawn has some time sensitive ones, such as killing a Developer in a certain year. There aren't that many people on these servers, so it is difficult to even know if a dev would show up and/or if you would get the achievement if you killed them. Killing Floor has time sensitive achievements also, but it is only on the description. For example, there is one to get an achievement killing various Christmas themes monsters (I think a Santa also) at a specific time in the past. But you can get those at any time now if you play on the Christmas map.

Red Faction: Armageddon has a bunch of achievements for the co-op Infestation mode, where you just kill waves of enemies. The matchmaking is non-existant and I have never seen any other players on this mode. The mode or maps themselves are difficult to play by yourself. You will die a lot this way. But it seems possible to get all of the achievements in this way, playing by yourself in boring game and dying all the time. But then since there is never any other player to play with, you won't get the revives achievement, or the 4 player one. Strangely, the other bonus mode (Ruin Mode) has no achievements at all.
