I'm all for homebrews. I only wish I had half the intelligence of the people who can hack consoles. I'm mostly a huge fan due to the translating community that's allowed me to play games that were never released in the States. Repros, no, if its someone taking advantage of a gamer by selling them a fake in place of a legit item. If I have a game that I know is a repro and paid little for it, then I wouldn't throw a fit. I can't think of an instance that I would, though.
I don know through. How about some of the pc engine cd games  going for 300-500 dollar? Repro only about 30 dollar.  But I think I know what you mean some asshole was selling repros on ebay as legit copies, some member posted it on here a few days ago.

Original games I'm for, although most are average at best.
Translated games I'm for patching myself, not buying any other form.
Expensive exclusives are to be expected, and I condone most reproductions-
The only repro i'm willing to obtain is Ginga Fukei Densetsu Sapphire for PCE ArcadeCD.

I would say 2001-2005 when Underground-Gamer was online. It was a private torrent community sharing entire libraries/catalogs of games for majority of consoles at the time. I've burned and played hundreds of imported ps1, dc, saturn, pce games back then. Great time for a fan of 32-bit games to be alive. It also helped I just graduated high school and had a lot of free time to play many unattainable gems I couldn't possibly imagine playing before. I understand they are still available now , but when that debuted it was spectacular and well organized compared to recent torrent websites.

Classic Video Games / Re: What do you prefer retro or modern games?

Retro for me.

When I play a video game it is for the challenge, not the visuals, engaging story, over-the-top theatrics, or online/offline multiplayer. I come from a generation of arcade games, where the concept of a video game is derived from a individual challenge.

I would consider the new generation of gaming more of a ponzi scheme; recycled game play with content deliberately removed so the consumer is forced to shell out more cash for it. The whole Download content, micro-transactions, pay-as-you-play method is atrocious - more or less the elephant in the room for contemporary gamers. Although I consider myself a video-game fan I have very little interest in the seventh, and current generation of systems and games. The last console I bought was the Microsoft Xbox 360 solely for arcade ports of my favorite series.

Anyone own a large import collection? or into importing games? Let me see!

NEC1989 X SEGA1994

Not large by any means.. but growing!
Actually I need to update my gallery since then I've acquired a dozen or so more titles..
Is tama a fun game?

More of a novelty of its time showcasing early 3-D capabilities, its fun for short sessions of play.

Awesome replies

Growing up playing MS-DOS games Lode Runner, Pitfall, Fairy Godmom, Treasure Island Dizzy from ages 3-7. My parents bought me Nintendo Entertainment System then. I grew up with Mario Bro. Duck Hunt bundle (still have today) and many other NES games to come including; Little Nemo, Yo Noid, Blaster Master, Mega Man 2, M.C. Kids, Little Ninja Brothers, Tiny Toons, Bubble Bobble, Snow Bros, and The Adventures of Lolo series.

Moving into the next gaming era, I chose the Super Nintendo Entertainment System to follow suit playing many classics these titles really stood out and I kept coming back to them.

Eventually moving into the 32-bit era, I chose Sega Saturn with the Virtua Fighter 2/Daytona USA/Virtua Cop bundle. What really caught my attention was Die Hard Arcade being exclusive for Saturn.

For the longest time I couldn't remember the name of this game until recently. Back around 1994-95 my family bought a Packard Bell Compaq Presario PC bundle which included Encarta Encyclopedia with a plethora of other software. One of the games I remember playing vaguely was this science-fiction adventure game similar to Myst.

Eventually recalled the game, The Journeyman Project Turbo!

General / Re: Do you ever just stare at your collection in awe?

No because they're kept in drawers. If I did ever buy Ikea shelves perhaps I'll gawk in glee. Although i'm not a collector, more video-game enthusiast and solely keep the games I really enjoy and discard the rest.

Thought I'd drop by and say hello. I'm from Germany, 28. I started out at an early age in around '92/'93 with the C64, SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy, continued later on with the PSX and N64, GC and a bit of PS2 and Wii then. Only played a few older PC/DOS or Amiga titles back then. The 16/32/64 bitters are still my main interest to this day though I occassionally check out new major titles and indies as well. I do plan on expanding on my NES and C64 stuff though.

During my teens I had a silly moment and sold a sizeable chunk of my SNES collection for peanuts. Then I got seriously into vinyl & demo tape collecting and other music related stuff which consumed most of my disposable incoming for over 12 years. Means I checked up on games very sparsely most of the time. A couple of months ago my old love somehow was revived again and I painfully bought those childhood games back as well as PSX ones of which I only had burnt copies of (yeah who didn't do this?). Most of these weren't very rare or really expensive titles, but compared to what I sold them for it hurt quite a bit...

Well and by thinking - if I already catalogued my music collection on the net, why not do the same with my game stuff - I found this place and signed up some weeks ago. Anyway, I think I really like this forum and hope my english isn't too off-putting for the appearantly mostly american based people here (I'm trying!). Cheers!

Hey welcome aboard, I too recently joined myself.

I can relate to most of your introduction;

I'm 27 from United States. Also started out playing at an early age, around 1990 with the MS-DOS, NES, eventually SNES and Game Boy Pocket continued with SAT and PSX, never cared for N64 (still dont) PS2, GC, and a bit of X360. Im also fond of 16/32 and 8-bit era games. At one point during my childhood my friend literally gave me his entire SNES collection of loose cartridges, around 45 or so. I eventually traded them in, or sold them which I also regretted. As for burnt copies I had/have many and which took up most of my time around 2004-2009 playing copied games for Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation. Decided to buy actual games for those consoles 2013-Present since I wore down my lens from reading poor quality CD-R in time.
