« on: April 29, 2016, 05:37:27 am »
I rewatch quite a few movies. First off, any Star Wars movie that didn't come out between 1999-2005, several of the Star Trek movies, the original Indiana Jones Trilogy, Jurassic Park, Hunt for Red October, the Rocky movies, Back to the Future, first two Alien movies, Happy Gilmore. That's just a few off the top of my head. There's something comforting about watching a classic favorite, like revisiting an old friend.

Never cried playing a video game. However, show me the end of Toy Story 3 again and I'll lose it.

I like Road Rage (GC) but I'm a big Crazy Taxi fan so it makes sense I guess.

General / Re: Do you have any NIB Sealed games?
« on: April 22, 2016, 06:07:45 pm »
I have a couple Atari 2600 games sealed, including one for the Supercharger. A couple floppy disk games for the Tandy Coco too. I have other ways of playing these so there's no need to open them

Mine is an amalgamation of two of my favorite things - Atari and the Toronto Maple Leafs

Not exactly a racing game per se but Test Drive Eve of Destruction is fantastic.

Site Feedback / Re: Other ways to sort your collection
« on: April 18, 2016, 06:55:28 pm »
Currently, whenever you access your collection, search for something, or do anything else, the games will always get sorted in alphabetical order. I think some other ways to sort results would be nice, like by release date, date of addition to either the database or your own collection (if this is kept track of), or console (yes, I know the advanced search feature exists, but it's just an idea). What do you guys think?

Agreed, it would be nice to take a walk back through the collection in the order I acquired it. Seeing only the last 5 items is a tease.

General / Re: First Game Ever Purchased
« on: April 18, 2016, 05:10:49 am »
The first game I bought (as in my father paid for it) was actually two games - Asteroids and Outlaw for the 2600. The first I bought with my own money was Empire Strikes Back for the same system.

I save my receipts.  Most of my disc games have one tucked away inside.  A lot of my NES boxes have them in there too.  I love it.  I have my $6.95 receipt in my CIB Metal Storm box.
Doesn't receipt ink fade over time? Usually about after a year?

I have a boxed Atari 2600 that has the original owners receipts from the 70's and it still looks fine, little faded but very legible.

I really wanted a Colecovision when I was 14 around 1983 but after spending so much on the Atari 2600 and games for a few years prior, my father wasn't going to spend the money on another console. I was so bummed because I spent a week at a lodge on vacation that summer and they had a CV in the main lodge with Donkey Kong, Cosmic Avenger, Mr. Do, Lady Bug and Zaxxon and loved all of them. So impressed with the arcade like graphics.

Glad I have one now :D

If we're talking about now, the one console I've always kinda wanted but never got my hands on was the Vectrex.

Classic Video Games / Re: What does your collection specalise in?
« on: April 11, 2016, 07:09:06 am »
For me it's Atari specifically, if that wasn't apparent, and pre-crash systems in general. It's also heavy on arcade ports from the late 70's to mid 80's as most of the games I have for NES and forward are various arcade ports. My small NES library is heavy on arcade ports and they are all excellent IMO. Same goes for Genesis, SNES, and famicom

General / Re: People Selling Their Collections
« on: April 04, 2016, 07:07:23 pm »
I may be one of the old timers who has been collecting, on and off, for about 24 years, starting in 1992. In that time span I've bought and sold two MASSIVE collections consisting mostly of pre-crash systems. I sold my first entire collection in 1996. I started collecting again in 2000 and sold that entire collection in 2005. I regretted getting rid of everything shortly after both sell-offs.

I started in 2008 on my third collection, this time vowing to just buy games and systems I enjoyed but also to not sell it all again. That first part, about only buying games and systems I enjoyed, lasted about a year. In 2009 I started making youtube videos (which I haven't done for several months now) and getting reactions to people watching my pickup videos encouraged to buy anything and everything just to make some damn pickup videos. Around late 2011 and early 2012 I took stock of my collection and how it was getting so out of control, how I had so much fluff and shelf filler, most of which I NEVER played, and I started a big purge of all those systems and games I didn't play. I did a similar but smaller purge in the summer of 2014.

As of yet, I really don't regret anything I've gotten rid of and I think THAT is a testament to how much of my collection was really unneeded and unwanted.  I am glad I've made videos over the years as I still have a record of my collection at various points over the years, at least of this third collection. I wish I would have taken more pictures and videos in the 90's and early 2000's when I was hunting regularly, during those first two collections when it practically rained classic video games, before ebay and resellers. I had some finds, the quality and quantity of which would make your head spin. Think of what Flea gets x 10. I'd regularly come home from yard saling with several boxes and garbage bags full of pre-crash games and systems and most of the time I never spent more than 30 or 40 bucks. Not joking.

No Atari? Pfffft. And he calls it a "collection"  ::)

Empire

That's it. There are only four Star Wars movies.
