Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Recent Additions to Database
« on: September 04, 2015, 01:28:01 pm »
Added 40+ games to the Sega Saturn [EU] category yesterday, thereby making sure all officially released Sega Saturn [EU] games now exists in the database. Next step is to add scans to each of them

Wow that's a lot of work! Cheers! :D

Three new additions for September.

PlayStation 4
20th Anniversary Dualshock 4 controller new/sealed

PlayStation 2
Okami complete in like-new condition

Nintendo DS
Okamiden new/sealed

Nice stuff! I'm a big fan of Ôkami, I got a few goodies of this fabulous game: http://www.wkd4496.net/okami/

Too bad they didn't make an Ôkamiden port on home consoles.. :(

Thank I'll have to check those out as well! Would you suggest playing 2 and 3 on the PS2 before I play the PSP version or does it make a difference?

If you're referring to Origins I played it on PS2: http://vgcollect.com/item/48251
For the others I got this awesome compilation: http://vgcollect.com/item/49457 8)

Origins takes part in the past before the events of SH1, it's nice to understand the setting though I suppose the order suggested by Telly is the way to go: SH2 => SH1 => SH3 since they are really the best episodes.

After that SH4 or Origins, doesn't matter much I believe.

I picked up Silent Hill: Shattered Memories for 2 dollars. I'v never played any in the series and I believe this is a remake of the first one.

Silent Hill Shattered Memories is a sort of reboot of the first game but it's not considered as canon to the series, a lot of concepts differ from the main storyline and I wouldn't say it's the perfect introduction to the series. It's still a good game but if you never played any SH and want the real thing I would suggest Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3, PS2 versions, not the crappy PS3 "HD" ports.

Concerning other episodes:
  • SH4: the room and SH Origins are good as well but don't match the 2 & 3
  • SH1 is still great but didn't aged well IMO, that may not be the best to start
  • SH:Homecoming has great environment quality and presentation but it's plagued with numerous gameplay issues and average storyline that makes it worth only if you want to experience the SH atmosphere with detailled environments, for the fans
  • I didn't test SH:Downpour, it didn't look worth it..

Today cleared 100% normal mode of Zelda Skyward Sword, 20 heart containers, all items obtained and crafted to max. level, all quests completed, all goddess cubes and 9900 rupee capacity.

The game had a pretty cool setting and there was a bunch of nice ideas in the plot, characters were appealing and interesting as always in Zelda games, though the holy. damn. motion controls ruined the fun of many sequences in the game. I know I will never play the game again nor play the hero mode only for this reason, this was a nightmare to play and all I wanted was going back to Twilight Princess on my GC to play with the wondrous GC controller. A shame really.

Hardware and Tech / Re: Play NTSC-US games on a JP Dreamcast

So I burnt a Code Breaker a it works wonder !

Since my games are retail originals and not burnt copies I could use it directly to play a NTSC-US game on my JP console without issues! ;D

Very cool! 8)

I'm planning to do a PDS longplay as well next year when my game room will be ready, always good to see more PDS content on Youtube, especially when there's an effort on the output quality!

Enjoy this awesome game, I wish I could play it again for the first time and discover everything like I did 15 years ago. :D

You owned it when it was new? How much was it?

I don't remember exactly since it was around 1999 and we had a different currency back then - France passed from F to € in 2002 - Saturn games were very expensive as I remember since PS1 games could be found around 350~400F and Saturn first party games could often cost 500F which is around $70 if you convert without taking inflation in consideration.

At this time I didn't own a Saturn so I borrowed the console and some games to a friend, PDS was one of them, I really loved it to death. I played it on emulator since then, but I finally acquired my own copy a few months ago ^^

Classic Video Games / Re: where do you buy import games?
« on: August 27, 2015, 08:27:21 am »
I found every single import game I own on eBay, it's not like I was gonna find anything worth around here where I live.. The only shop in the big city nearby that was in niche gaming and import games closed 10 years ago, and everything else in flea markets or in game shops is PAL.

As a Sonic fan I like the idea of capturing and sharing Sonic themed gameplay, I'd like to do some when my game room will be ready, should be mid-2016.

I would add Sonic Generations to the lit as it's a really great Sonic game!

IGN showcased some actual gameplay of the game during Gamescom:

I'm loving the Demon's Souls feeling in the combat pace and the environments. VaatiVidya made an analysis of his experience playing it during the event as well, the secondary weapon mechanic sounds really cool:

Classic Video Games / Re: First video game you ever played?

The first game I played was Planet Smashers on Atari 7800, at a friend's when I was 8 years old..

That game was not a great shooter and it was really hard but I was so impressed at the time, we loved playing this among other Atari classics like Asteroids, Centipede, Pitfall and so on.. The next Christmas I had my very own Master System, that's how it all started!

in a nutshell
  • Yes
  • yes
  • it will but for the basic gameshark you need that dongle
as far as I know Boot disc/cheat devices are region free I use Xploder to force boot games in VGA/play imports. It's basically the UK version of the Codebreaker disc

here's a video going in depth about playing imports
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i-fxO8euoEQ

Thanks for the input, that sure is a very well made and informative video! Getting myself a Code Breaker ;D
