General / Re: Someone Needs to Hack MMPR for SNES
« on: December 19, 2024, 04:52:23 pm »
Doing so would (likely) require:

- A disassembly and/or decompilation of the game's code

- A development environment for developing SNES games

I would encourage you to investigate projects like Ship of Harkinian/2ship2harkinian, fgsfdsfgs/perfect_dark, Super Mario 64, etc. to see the scale of this. Kudos to you if you want to start the process!

Which Zelda games in particular? I might be able to recommend a few romhacks

I had no idea plumbers don't wear ties is getting a port... I may need to buy that.

XBOX Series X

- Xbox Elite Wireless Series 2 Controller (left and right bumpers need replacements, left switch needs to be swapped out)

XBOX 360

- White chatpad (free, the eBay seller missed my order and refunded me to compensate :)
- Xbox Live Arcade
- Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged Vol. 1
- Xbox Live Gold 3 Month Membership (sealed) has old Twitter logo on it

OG XBOX

- Official OG Xbox High Definition AV Pack (Component and optical) adapter w/ cable

Decent Xbox haul. The Series 2 is a bit of a fixer-upper but I'd rather give the (potential) difference to a local electronics repair guy than Microsoft. Plus, another controller gets restored and re-enters the ecosystem!

I remember getting advice from the community here several years back. I have moved since then and figured I would post this radical progress update including a JVC CRT TV, a Super Famicom, a AV Stand, receiver, several flashcarts, etc. Thanks for the initial feedback! Looking forward to expanding here in a few years :)

General / Re: IGN just acquired a ton of their competitors

Game journalism has been... not great... for a long time. There's a lot of crap out there. The best of the gaming sites IMO, GameTrailers.com, died out a long time ago.

This.

From IGN's "Gone to GameCube" article found here:https://www.ign.com/articles/2002/02/11/gone-to-gamecube.

Just straight up news with some screenshots you might not find anywhere else. No "Opinion" articles like on Kotaku. I don't know who wrote the article (IGN says "Peer/96Sturmvogel96") and to be honest I don't care. It gets the job done and that's what matters. I have information and knowledge, not some "freelance writer" profile picture sitting in my memory.

It doesn't feel like news anymore either. IMHO the overall standard of diction has decreased (I say, using an acronym). Further back it felt like an actual group peer reviewed magazines and even websites to make the diction feel like this is a statement made by an organization. Instead, nowadays an article is written by Joe Schmo with his twitter handle in his IGN profile. E.g., my "Pocket Games 7" GameCube guide (not endorsed by Nintendo) FEELS like a gaming magazine. IGN articles do not feel like gaming magazines and instead feel like a paper. I'm aware a magazine is not a website, however the writing principle is the same.

General / Re: Fighting Game Collectors, what do you recommend?

Smash 64 and Smash Ultimate. They offer different metas than the other entries. Ultimate is incredible because of the sheer amount of first and third-party characters. Smash is an essential for each console it's on.

This month has been good. I've added:

Super Famicom:
 - Two TOMEE 6' controller extension cords
 - CIB Satellaview
 - Super UFO Pro 8 Flashcart and ROM/Save Dumper

N64:
 - Change the System (VHS)
 - Diddy Kong Racing (VHS)
 - Hot Newz 64 Nsider's Guide to N64 (VHS)

GameCube:
 - Biohazard 0 (JP)
 - Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom (JP)

OTW:

SNES:
 - 2 Derby Stallion Satellaview slotted cartridges
 - FXPak Pro SNES/Famicom Flashcart (MSU-1, Satellaview support)

N64:
 - SummerCart64 Flashcart. A cheaper alternative to the EverDrive 64 X7, this flashcart is the first to possess hardware emulation for the 64DD, meaning it can run .ndd files instead of converted N64 roms. Naturally, this also means one can play the Legend of Zelda: Dawn and Dusk romhack (.ndd) as intended.

castlevania portrait of ruin, favourite metroidvania behind symphony of the night

That guide is sick. I need to get around to collecting those Castlevania related items.

I do have to ask though, why is PoR so high up there for you???

I bought a not for resale copy of Manhunt. It's a UK version that's titled, "Manhunt: The Final Cut" but appears to be a promo copy for store usage. I'm looking forward to documenting the differences.

Thank you, Tripredacus!

I'll go ahead and get my copy of Virtua Striker 4 photographed (to specification) and entered soon!

Would it be possible to create a category for Nintendo arcade equipment? Specifically the Triforce? I understand the category naming convention is manufacturer name product name. This is naturally a bit tricky when considering this arcade hardware is a joint-venture between Namco, Nintendo, and Sega.

Admittedly I'm lacking a good name to put forth for the category other than NNS Triforce.

I can't figure out how to delete this message so instead of wasting space with a quote I'll just put my edit to the statement above down below.

There's a saying going around that's something along the lines of "if buying isn't owning, than pirating isn't stealing". I can't say I outwardly agree with that, however it's certainly food for thought.

Either pirate or quit engaging in the "everything".

I can't actively condone illegal activity on a public forum, but I can advocate for actually owning the things you buy.

E.g., Louis Rossman has a video on Sony's content (video) licenses expiring and them yanking content out of our library that you paid for and planned to keep. Given that alone, I'm not trying to sink any more money into the PlayStation ecosystem. Sure, I'll collect the previous gen console when the new one comes out and get the exclusives, but I will never invest myself into an ecosystem that I know is going to decline in quality further than it already has.

Or how about that other time when Louis Rossman did a video on Netflix not providing the image quality they said they were.

Not only that, everything is quickly becoming a service, or it's "as a service". Sure, it was whatever when Netflix exploded during the seventh generation. Streaming from my house beat going down to the local blockbuster or Redbox literally around the corner.

The problem is now HBO, Disney (Hulu), NBC (Peacock) also want $10 a month. I'm sorry Peacock, but I'm not giving you $10/month to watch House M.D.

I could pay $40 a month for lesser quality and not own it or I could pay less than $10 a month for a VPN. Hard choice.
