It's been a bit of a slow month. I've certainly been seeing a bunch of games at thrift stores, but it's just been the usual sports games, Wii exercise games, Kinect Adventures, and occasional Lego game. No new releases have me interested and I've been mostly chilling with Pokemon Sapphire and Pokemon Colosseum, trying to get all 386 Pokemon.

The e-Reader had Donkey Kong Jr. still saved on it which was neat and I have a few old Pokemon cards that have e-Reader dot codes on them. Overall, the device is neat as an early DLC idea, but looking at the requirements for hooking the device up to another GBA, I can see why it never caught on outside of Japan. Having one of these e-Readers now though, makes me wish I could go back like 20 years and tell my kid self to hold on to the e-Reader cards that came with Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3.

I was surprised how neat and fun (for something made for little kids) the Picos are. They're just edutainment devices, but how they work with their book cartridges is cool and a good use of old Genesis/Mega Drive tech. Also ROB is shockingly functional (although a bit fussy on the angle he's facing the TV); just very loud. Certainly makes playing Gyromite more interesting and challenging.

General / Re: FPS, RPG, SIM ... where are you "at home"?
« on: December 01, 2024, 08:30:29 pm »
Hard to say just two, but I'd say platformers and RPGs, specifically just turn based ones. The Dragon Quest and Mega Man franchises are my "at home" games.

I'll throw in some honorable mentions too:

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue Rescue Team
Snowboard Kids
Mega Man 10
Freedom Planet 2
Dragon Quest VIII
