Bought a PS4 Pro with Horizon Zero Dawn. It's an absolutely amazing game, haven't played anything else since I've started playing it.

This is one of my favourite songs (original and cover), I absolutely love the way they used it for this trailer. It sets a really dark tone and I hope that they will embrace it throughout the entire film.
Looks like this will be the final movie with the old X-Men cast.

Finally picked up X|X-2 Remastered on PS4. I haven't played the game since 2002, I was a little hesitant to dig into it since it's a 100+ hour platinum but I found the game for a good price. Once I started playing, I was hooked all over again. The nostalgia brought me back to when I was a kid. I'm excited to play some more today after work :D

I'm also finishing up Lego Marvel right now. I'm at ~70% completion, so not much left to do.

Off Topic / Re: How much would you pay for jeans?

I've found that any jeans I buy get lots of wear in the same area regardless of the quality of the jean. So I just buy $20-30 pairs and they last about a year (we have wonderful winters here in Eastern Canada). Paying more would be a waste for me, they still last around the same amount of time and look the same.

Some of the most enjoyable plats I've gotten are Doom, Ni no Kuni, Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Kingdoms of Amalur.

You know. I have never played FFXIII-2 because my PS3 died just as I completed FFXIII. Your post inspired me to look up the roadmap for XIII-2 and now I really want to play it. I hope they have some cheap PS3s soon, maybe black friday. I'd love to sink my teeth back into PS3 era RPGs.

Just platinumed Rachet and Clank on PS4. Did the first playthrough with my non-gamer wife and then did a cleanup for trophies about 5 months later :P
It was good fun to pick up again. I'm surprised how quickly you can tear through the game considering how long the first playthrough took.

FFXII

Agreed. I'm very patient while playing Final Fantasy games, but FFXII tested that patience.

I was ultra hyped for FF XII as X is one of my favorite games of all time, and sadly XI went the MMO route. Bought it the week it came out, played it for a few hours and was just totally bored and uninterested. Funny enough, I hear so many people heavily praising this game which makes me want to try it out again, but I'm worried that I'll end up quiting it pretty early on again.

There are so many good Final Fantasy games to replay or jRPGs to try that I can't ever convince myself to play FF XII again.

I'm pretty sure that it's something that will stay alive, maybe only in niche markets but it won't ever go away completely if it ever does die down.

Simulators are always expensive hobby machines, that crowd will always be willing to shell out money for a more authentic sim experience. I am getting VR for racing games mostly. Anything more is bonus.

Insane collection, so many gems in there, I am pretty jealous.
I regret not getting a pikachu gameboy when I saw them for sale.

I probably will pick up some Final Fantasy UMDs eventually. UMDs were such a failure that I'm pretty indifferent to them. If I find a super bargain, I'll bite but I won't go out of my way to find it.

Off Topic / Re: how the hell do you pick a career??
« on: September 08, 2016, 03:37:54 pm »
You can't really pick a career unless it's extremely specialized, you usually just fall into a career or jump between jobs until you're happy.

The job market isn't the same way it was 10+ years ago, what's happening now is that we are seeing a flood of talent graduate from universities. There are not as many positions as there are graduates, and unfortunately many jobs are getting either automated or outsourced. You mostly need an "in" to get a job easily, and it might not be the job/career you really want.

I think there are a few ways to start a career but it's not as easy as saying "I'm going to be a ____" and then deciding to apply for those jobs.

Education: Schools are a hub for innovation, talent, information, and community. I, and many others, were not fortunate enough to realize the benefits of networking while in school. Putting in a little extra effort while getting education can put you in the spotlight. Many companies go to universities to meet students. Take every opportunity you can to meet new people, seek new opportunities, and network. Volunteer for the school if possible, if you do a good job, the volunteer managers usually can pull strings to help you out.

Recruitment: Recruitment Agencies have a pretty bad rap, but they are not all that bad when approached professionally and their services are used with caution. Sometimes recruitment agencies have contract work which can place you in new companies. This allows you to meet a whole new set of people every time you take a new contract. If your first contract lasts 3 months, you've got an opportunity to meet new people and really shine. If nothing comes of it, the next contract allows you to meet a whole new set of people.

Job Websites: Many job research websites allow you to submit a resume, doing so will allow tons of companies and recruiters to pick your resume up and you may get some calls for all these random opportunities. If one of them is interesting, you can take that and see if you like it. You also get to meet new people. At the same time, you can look at different opportunities on the job search website.

Volunteer: Some volunteer opportunities in communities are very low commitment. Volunteer organizers often have city/government contacts. Do a good job and become friends/familiar with managers, they will be happy to help you out since you are volunteering and essentially helping them out for free.

What all of these have in common is that they put you in front of people. Doing so, not only increases your opportunity for new employment but it also allows you to explore new jobs/topics that you may not have thought of before. Maybe you do an office job at a firm that specializes in telecommunications. After working there for a while and talking to your manager and coworkers, you realize that telecommunications is cool AF. Maybe you hate it, you decide you don't want to ever do it and you bar it off your potential career list.

Don't put stress of deciding a career, instead pursue opportunities that will provide information valuable to deciding a career. It requires effort but I believe that done properly, it will lead to a happier life.

TLDR: If you can't decide on a career, seek more information about different careers. Information is found through education, work experience in different fields, and through other people's experiences which they can share with you. Education, Work, and Communication can help you decide and lead you down different paths.

I try to get 100% completion in games, including platinum trophies. With the price of games increasing in Canada to a point where I can't really purchase many new games. Trying to get trophies stretches the lifespan of a game. I enjoy doing it and I get much more monies worth out of the game.

Modern Video Games / Re: PS4 Pro announced

Am I the only one that gives zero effs about 4k?  Maybe I'm getting old.  1080p is good enough for me.

From what I've seen at stores of 4k, it's super nice, I'll get one eventually since it'll be the HD replacement someday, but 4k certainly isn't the selling point on the Pro system.  I still think not having support for their own 4k Blu-Rays is really dumb lol

It's not? Because I see little incentive to upgrade from a normal PS4 if you have no plans on getting a 4K TV.

They sold it as a Pro version, for gamers who want an extra edge. Even at 1080p you'd have better frames or better visuals. They opened up saying it was for the more hardcore gamers. The benefits are small, but people who play everyday, it might be worth it for them, even without a 4k tv. The incentive is small for casual gamers, but for hardcore PS4 gamers, it's probably worth it.

That being said, it's definitely marketed towards 4k, they spent half of the presentation explaining what 4K and HDR were. If Sony spends 20-25 minutes presenting technology instead of games, you can bet your ass that they are committing hard to the technology (In this case, 4k)
