god I love today! my work is having a holiday pot luck and running movies. its basically a day they actually encourage us to just eat and not work and get paid for it!

Me? $10 if I knew it was actually good and, $5 would be the highest for if I never heard of the game before.

oh god no... sure there are some very rare games out there but I have tons of Atari 2600, colleco, intelivision games and I have NEVER paid above $1 for each. hell there was a point where my local game store had TOO many of them and blew them out for $.10 a piece that's where pretty much all my commons came from and every label variants.

the highest priced Atari 2600 game I had ever seen was priced at $40 at a pawn shop and I waited for it for over a year before I was approached by an employee who offered it to me for $5 and I talked him down to $1.50 (in that year I was literally the ONLY person to express ANY interest in it). cant even remember what game it was either.

but if your willing to spend 5-10 bucks I have a bunch of uncommon semi-rare games I will very happily sell to you. I love collecting them but I do not put much value to them at all, and it would allow me to try and find them again.

I much prefer mechanical ones to digital ones. for a mechanical one to fail on you there has to be something INCREADIBLY wrong to stop it from working where as a digital on can stop for any number of reasons. electrical short, bad programing, screen malfunction, sensor malfunction, etc.

now if a digital one were to come out that has less potential failure points than current mechanical dash boards then I would be all over that. or if the cost of trouble shooting and replacing faulty digital dashboards were significantly less then maybe. as it goes now if there is any sort of electrical failure in a car the whole system gets replaced not just the component that went bad (unless you do it yourself). so any electrical issues you are dealing with can easily cost thousands of dollars to fix even if it is just a bad $20 sensor.

although not electrical related a good chunk of my job as a hydraulics engineer is to reduce the total possible locations of hydraulic leaks and hydraulic failures thus making a better machine with less warranty issues and easier and cheaper fixes if there is any issues.

EDIT: I just remembered this but back in high school when my class first got our licenses one of my friends got a vehicle with a digital dashboard and we found out that it can be fooled into displaying a different speed by swapping from drive into neutral and back to drive while moving. it would display the return to drive as 0 mph and any speed up would increase the mph by the increased speed (resetting at 30 and speeding up to 45 would display 15 mph) but slowing down would keep the speed at 0 but if you went over a few minutes of going under your reset speed the dash would blank out. no speedometer, no engine rev, no temp, no mileage counter.

Who's getting Soulja Boy's new console? The SouljaGame Classic, or the SouljaBoy Handheld?

It's literally a cheap, flea market emulator console with Tom's downloaded from the internet, lol. And he wants $200 for it.
It does 4k though  ::)

All in a 3 inch display! what will they think of next?

I personally would like to know the translation of it as well if you have the answer handy.

Hardware and Tech / Re: PC Advice (Broken Graphics Card?)
« on: December 10, 2018, 05:04:57 pm »
What graphics card is it?

im not at home right now so I don't know the exact model but its a XFX Radeon Rx 560 or 580 something.

IF YOU UNPLUG YOUR GRAPHICS CARD THEN WINDOWS WON'T AUTO DETECT IT THE VIDEO CARD FOR SURE, but it may give you a picture IF you plug the monitor into the motherboard port on the back, but that is not recommended unless your video card is first unplugged completely

If I unplug it will I be able to get the onboard graphics to book up so I can see something and re-plug in the graphics card to re-download the drivers for it? I still have the original driver disc but without being able to see what im doing I wont be able to use it I don't think.

and no I have tried it on my 2 monitors and a tv and nothing ever displays

Hardware and Tech / PC Advice (Broken Graphics Card?)
« on: December 10, 2018, 11:19:19 am »
Well I saw the other thread that popped up and thought about adding the question there but it did not seem to be ended so...

Recently on my wifes PC her games have been prompting her that her graphics card drivers were ~400 days out of date and needed to be updated to play the game. all well and good so we go to the graphics card manufacturers website and update to the newest drives. and everything works great then at the end of the day we shut it off and the next morning start it back up to an error message. something along the lines of "something you have recently downloaded has failed, reverting to a previous version" (unsure what the real message was). so it boots up after ~20 mins of reverting and find out the graphics card was what was reverted. so we tried it again, the update worked and we were able to play the games we wanted shut down and restarted to the same message. but this time the revert never finished and ended up blue screening in the process. so we force reset it and now nothing displays on the monitor at all.

the pc powers on just fine and runs but I can no longer get anything to display. did I brick the graphics card or is there a way to fix the no display? normally I would think a virus but we never clicked on any link and instead went straight to the graphics card website posted on the box it came in and downloaded the drivers from there.

I’m sure there are folks here that can do one better than me, but I remember when a 30mb hard drive was $200.

“Dude you can fit all three episodes of DOOM on there!”

lol there is a guy at work that has old magazine advertisements for computer components pinned to his desk and my favorite one is

"NEW 1 MEGABYTE OF STORAGE NOW FOR THE LOW PRICE OF $800 EACH"

best part about it is its shown in some ones hand and it looks to be about the size of a mother board today.

as for my own memory I remember going to a staples and seeing a 20GB external hard drive for $400 and thinking that was a good deal. just imagine never having to buy another one! lol

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: LRG Boxart Entries
« on: December 07, 2018, 10:41:54 am »
when someone first creates a new entry it does not go to a review queue so all those LRG with the water marks were created that way. since it is not the correct for the items to have water marks anything edited that does go through the review queue with a water mark gets rejected.

in other words all the other LRG entries are wrong and should be changed to proper images. if you were just to scan the boxart and edit it into the entry it should be accepted.

This is just a list of profanities.

If you do not have anything to add to a conversation do not make a post.

I tired to see if I could just copy and past the characters from other Korean text into google translate but I quickly came to the understanding that that is not possible with the amount of time I have to give. the base characters are easy but if you notice every character is actually a cluster of multiple base characters. which makes it nearly impossible to just copy and paste from other texts.

Off Topic / Re: What is your current dividend income?
« on: December 04, 2018, 10:29:35 am »
last year my dividend income was right around $6500 this year it should end at ~$6900. if I were to actually take the cash then I would easily pull in my rent each month.

My projected annual is just above that, but I don't ever see this money. I know that my grandma used to get dividend checks when she had stocks, and she would use them to go on family vacations. I recall that this was the reason why I got to go to Disney World in 1987. But for myself, I will not get any checks from mine. That money just gets re-invested. I'll see it when I retire.

Yeah mine just gets reinvested back into the stocks that produce them. If anyone does not know there is an account you can open called a DRIP account (Divided Re-Investment Plan) your dividend gets paid out in more stock, instead of cash, at a price that is lower than market price. so its definitely value added to anyone who specifically buys dividend stocks.

what is that like £5000-7000 in your account? still acceptable for someone who just started.
