Modern Video Games / Re: PS5 Officially Announced for Holiday 2020

I just want the exterior to be different from the dev consoles. that crap looks hideous.

over time interests change. I can easily see someone that had a passion for games from their childhood who collected through to their adult life and just grew out of gaming. for me just getting a wife and a house took my gaming time from ~5 hours a night to ~2. if I were to have a kid I can see how that would be down to 1 or even less. after years of that I would be tempted to sell my whole collection as well.

Also a side note is its easier to sell a whole collection than piecing it out. if you have 100 sports games in it then after you sell everything piece meal youll still have those 100 games. where ass everything together gets rid of it all fast (even if it is for a discount over piecemeal, less headache as well)

Hardware and Tech / PS2 hdmi conversion issues.
« on: July 23, 2019, 04:38:04 pm »
I recently got a nice 4k TV that only has HDMI inputs. this wasn't a big deal because I used to record gameplay so I have an RCA to HDMI converter (one of the real cheap ones), but I noticed on the new tv whenever I fire up a ps2 game and the game were to normally display a darker image it would instead display true black. this happens to all greys, blacks, browns, etc but it never did so on my previous 1080p tv. on some games its tolerable but there are some were its impossible to even tell where the ground/obstacles are. whats even worse is this color issue seems to be strictly ps2 related as my SNES, gamecube, genesis does just fine color related on this tv.

I already went through all tv settings, adjusting brightness, contrast, etc and nothing fixes the color issues. does anyone know of any fix for this? is there another RCA to HDMI converter that will fix color or some other device or is this a issue with the tv itself?

I want to preface this by saying I know almost nothing about this.... but..

Are the servers rented out from a third party company? if so it might be that they are only allocating a very small amount of server space to this site because of useage (or lack there of).

Are you sure it is a CRT and not a projection TV?

Most definitely a projection tv. CRT's do not have a "bulb" per say because they are "Cathode Ray Tubes". it is not something that can be taken out and replaced like a light bulb where as in a projection tv it can. in the original post it mentioned that it has blown out twice. if it were a CRT then the only way to replace it would have been scrapping the entirety of the internals of the tv and replacing it.

my in-laws had a projection tv up to 2 years ago when the bulb blew on it and they could no longer get any replacement bulbs. it would turn on but would have no display because there was no back light. to me this sounds to be exactly the same issue. check the model number online and see if you cant find a replacement bulb for it. (word of warning though they typically cost around $80)

as for the original question no. playing video games on a tv will not cause them to fail. it is exactly the same thing as running your tv services through it (Mediacom, dish, direct tv, ETC) the device you use processes all the information so there is absolutely no additional load on the tv as there would be if you were watching static on it.

also another thing to keep in mind is that they physically stopped making those bulbs for the projection tv's 10 years or so ago so the bulbs they are buying, even if they are brand new, are at least that old and as such have a much smaller working life.

back in the day I used to play all the COD's religiously and to date I have max level max prestiged 7 titles (MW1, MW2, MW3, WaW, BO, BO2, and ghosts) 10 times (one time each and an additional account in each of the modern warfares). on top of leveling achievements I also ran my best game ever playing domination in MW3 getting a k/d of 84/6. me and my clan were in rare form that game shutting down absolutely everything they were doing which gave us the freedom to abuse the spawns and get an absurd amount of kills. I think in all we got ~350-400 kills. one of my other clan members got an even better k/d of ~120/~4. and on top of that at one point I was ranked no. 72 on PS3 in Kino Der Toten with a wave of 92, ~250 on Ascension and in to 2000's in Shangri-La.

When I was growing up I never got to go to any arcades (mainly because none existed around me) so just about the only arcade experience I had was the off hand arcade machine at walmart or the Chuck E Cheese when it existed for only 2-3 years near me.

now a days I have a bar I like to go to called Analogue that has 2 locations less than 10 minutes apart. they have roughly 100+ arcade and pinball machines and is a cool place to hang. Im trying to convince the owner to build another in my more immediate area because its about an hour drive from me.

I made the stupid comment to my brother one year that I did not own any duplicate games in my collection so for Christmas he got me 25 combat carts for the 2600 as a joke. I actually ended up keeping more of them than I should have because the end label on the carts were different. like different fonts and sizes for the lettereing.

lol sorry I have basically disappeared. I just recently bought my first house and that is keeping me plenty busy. in the last 2 weeks (time ive owned the house) we've blown a capacitor in our garage door opener, snapped off and replaced the anchoring bolts on the upstairs toilet (thankfully it didn't break any of the water lines), fully disassembled our dryer because it wasn't adequately drying cloths (I thought the heating element was going out but the blower motor just wasn't properly seated in the assembly and was leaching air, also cleaned out 2 grocery bags full of lint trapped in the belly and exhaust pipe), and installed gutter guards.

on the list for this week is to clean the leaves off our half acre property and get grass seed started on the holes (leaves have killed the grass underneath), string a cloths line, till and re-fence the garden, and locate the thermal expansion joint for our ductwork (it bangs every 5 minutes when it heats up or cools down)

Easily bitcoin. You could make many millions over a very short couple of years or even months if you go back to the right time, then store a good chunk into a savings account and wisely use the rest to live comfortably.

I have an acquaintance this happened to. He was buying up Bitcoin like crazy in the early 2010s and also mining it as well. I know very little about bitcoin, but to my understanding he had like 30k in bitcoin around 2015 and when it took off he essentially ran into a windfall of cash. I haven't seen much of him since this happened, but I imagine he is doing very well now.

heck if you would have just been in the first 100 people to start mining and never sold It you would have made millions! at one point very early on you could have bought a BTC for something like $.20-.50 each. just $100 worth at 50 cents would have made you 3.6Mill if you sold around its peak and got 18,000 out of it.

I had a friend who mined it when it was around $50-100 a coin and he was making a decent chunk of money out of it. his problem was that he never kept anything he mined and sold it all immediately. all told he probably mined 100-150 total coins.

but there are thousands of possible investments that could have made you rich.

Christmas lemmings 1993/94. I have admittedly never played any lemming games before but I remember seeing one of these https://vgcollect.com/item/39909 at a garage sale years ago for a firm $40 (side note I hate when garage sales list items at what they were bought for) I don't know about you but just searching through every lemming game to find the correct listing this game only came on the amiga and EVERY other lemming game came out for practically every system.
