Blueray disks have a really heavy coating. Anything on a blueray should last a long while. The coating is pretty nuts on them. It's almost difficult to scratch unless you throw them around.

I don't see any disc based games going as crazy as carts. There will come a time when the discs simply wont work. Regardless of scratches, disc rot is a real thing. You could leave a game sealed and the odds of it working flawlessly in 20-30 years are minimal. Also - the consoles will all be dead someday. They have too many moving parts, too many things to go wrong, etc. That PS2 might have a brand new laser installed, but it might not be functional in 20 years even without use. Are there going to be lasers available 20 years from now? Meh - maybe, maybe not.

My suggestion (even as a collector) is to back those discs up on a PC and store them away until you want to play them again. I have a HDD installed on my PS2 for many reasons - one is because I know that someday that could be my only option.

Modern Video Games / Re: Vita Fat or Slim?

I really like the screen on my Vita (OLED). I picked mine up from CL months ago for about 120 with a 16GB memory card. I can't imaging them going up in price. My battery life isn't atrocious, but it's not great. I'm betting the difference in the battery life has more to do with the screen change than anything else. Either way, you're not going to get a ton of playtime between charges.

I've spent a bit of time with the Vita and I'll say this - regardless of which model you choose, you're picking up the nicest handheld console ever made. While the library isn't huge, it's pretty good. The addition of FFX to the lineup made me happy. If you enjoy games like Monster Hunter? Give Toukiden a try. Also, if you don't already have PS+, it's worth getting for the Vita.

My best advice? Don't buy anything because you expect it to be valuble. It likely never will be. If you're going after a complete set of something, buy lots - be patient - expect to get duplicates and sell/trade for pieces you're missing.

Also - DON'T go for a complete set of anything if you're just starting out. That's the best way to get 300 garbage NES titles and waste a lot of space :) Trust me, I know!

Start collecting what you want to play/have based on nostalgia or taste or whatever. Figure out a theme for your collection if you have no idea where to start. For example, I like SMT games. I have most of them because I like them. None of them are that valuable, but I feel good everytime I pick one up. I don't regret purchasing any of them.

A lot of people say that being patient is important. While I don't technically disagree, I will say that you should be ready to pick something up if it's on your shortlist. This is especially true if you're concerned about condition. If you're just starting out, I would recommend that you choose your condition requirement from the getgo. If you don't mind a torn label? Fine. Just don't pick something up with a torn label expecting to replace it later on. That only sometimes works, and, if you care, you'll end up with multiple copies of potentially expensive games that no one really wants.

I could keep rambling, but I think you guys can pick out of that. I've been doing this for a while. If you have any specific questions I'll answer them.

EDIT: For the love of god, don't freak out over CE stuff. I collect some of it, but some of it is utter garbage. Most of them end up being on Amazon for half the asking price when they're new. Unless you actually want the game that comes with that statue? Don't waste your time. Just my opinion.

Modern Video Games / DARK SOULS II !!!!!!!!

So who's played it, who loves/hates it, what's the deal?

I like the game. At first, I was really disappointed as I decided at the 10 hour mark that I really enjoy DS better. Now that I've got 30-40 hours behind me, I really enjoy it. From made some changes that I am still skeptical on, but overall? Awesome.

Who knew there were so many TG fans out there :)

I can't believe I have never owned one until now. Kind of funny how collecting goes I suppose.

I just picked up a Turbo Express off of Ebay for $120. Something I always wanted as a kid, and now I own one. It is so dope playing Air Zonk, Blazing lazers, Bonks Revenge, or any TG16 game for that matter in the palm of your hands.

So you would say the Turbo Express is worth it? I've never played on one.

We're throwing a con in OKC called SUPER! BitCon in March. We decided to put together a very limited VIP package run...what do you guys think? (No working carts were used, so don't freak out!)

Ninja Gaiden, hands down. I've never cared for Shinobi

You should at least give Shinobi on the 3DS a shot. It's pretty good.

I just picked up a TurboGrafx-16. I need some games! I currently have Keith Courage and Bonk's Adventure. Other than that I'm open. I don't want the card only, but don't need the cardboard box (jewel case is a must).

If you have anything please let me know!

How about something a little more difficult....

The TurboExpress versus the Game Gear?

I'm looking for the hardcover Dark Souls guide. If you have an extra (or want to get rid of it for some reason) let me know!
