I went to PRGE last year. Unfortunately this year I'm going to be crazy busy during the month of October and cannot make it. I had a great time, the City of Portland is awesome, and I'd recommend going for sure.

I think we've already beaten two sesame street games. If you go to our channel I think one of them is set to highlights. It was pretty funny.

Ha ha. We never claimed to be awesome at any of them. My skill level varies greatly depending on how hard I concentrate. We're really just doing it for fun, so I'm sure there will be plenty of bad runs.

I think we've beaten about 20 or so thus far? We've really only had about 14 hours of playing, so I don't feel too bad about that number. There are so many games on the NES that I've never even touched - I'm sure we'll have some that take waaaay too long to beat because of that.

I sat down and beat DuckTales 2 on Tuesday as part of the NES Challenge (beating all the licensed US NES releases over the course of a year...that can actually be beaten). It's much easier than the original IMO. You can buy extra lives, health, etc. While it's nice to have a reason to collect all of those diamonds - it makes the game even less challenging. I had never played the game before Tuesday, and I beat it in about an hour. It feels a lot like a dumbed down version of Mega Man, which isn't necessarily a bad thing I suppose.

So I picked up a copy of Snatcher (SCD) this week. It's going to be traded off to a member here for a Box + Cart of Fun 'N Games (SNES). It's a terrible trade if you're interested in playing either, but as a collector it seems pretty legit. Only 2000 copies of Fun 'N Games were even made!

Retropalooza should be a pretty good time this year. A bunch of us are going down. We'll be there on Saturday night (staying at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel). If you feel like partying with us (and likely a bunch of other people at the con) let me know and I'll get you the info as it develops.

Just a little update - we made over $3000 during the marathon! After it's all said and done we'll likely have made enough to fund the charity for an entire quarter.

Ha. It is a ridiculous goal. There are a lot of games that have no real "end" (sports games, some arcade style, etc). We're just going to set the high score on those, or play through a certain amount, etc. I think it will take us about a year to get through if we do a show or two per week.

Last night we took out SMB1, 2 and 3, Kung Fu and Batman. There are going to be some real time sinks in there for sure - and we're absolutely going to use a guide for games like FF and DW1-4 (not speed run guides, but we don't want to spend 40 hours on one title). I feel like it's achievable, but it's going to take some serious dedication for sure.

Hey peeps, we're going to be hosting a 24-hour charity event for a local charity named Hotdogs for the Homeless this weekend (August 29-30th) from 7PM CST to 7PM CST. We'll be streaming it at www.twitch.tv/retrogamersociety if you feel like making fun of me dying all the time :)

A friend and I are actually going to be streaming a bit there going forward as part of the NES Challenge - where we're going to attempt to beat every NES game. We started last night and it was pretty brutal due to my lack of current NES skills.

Some of you on VGC enjoy hearing what RGS is up to from time to time - so here it is :)

Dirt cheap CD/DVD based games include:

Xbox
PS2
360
PS3

That is all.

Sega CD and Saturn can also be dirt cheap but they're harder to find.

I probably should have qualified that with the word "good".

This is an interesting question for someone who doesn't really have a limit on collection items (not bragging, just saying). I probably look at things a little differently. What it comes down to for me is - am I willing to spend $x on x? If the answer is yes, then I buy it. If it's no, then I don't. Market value has very little relevance unless I smell that something's off. For instance, I purchased The Death and Return of Superman on SNES CIB last weekend for ~ $75. Did I know that I wanted it? Not really. Did I want it when I saw it? Yep. Would I recommend anyone else pay that much for a garbage SNES title? Nope. It's all totally relative and is simply restricted by the limits of your personal confines/restraints.

As far as items I feel are terribly overpriced in comparison to supply/demand issues:

Earthbound
Mega Max X2 & X3
Panic Restaurant
Little Samson

I'm willing to bet that a part of the reason why the prices of some of these items are so outrageous (comparatively speaking) has to do with people like me. However, I also feel like many people who associate with this hobby in some form or fashion forget to use common sense a lot of the time. I paid $25 for a MINT & Complete copy of Bee 52 not too long ago (even has the baggie with the red sticker that came with it). Little Samson CIB for over $1000? GTFO.

Yes. It's very difficult to acquire. It was a very late release, and a terrible game.

Hey everyone! I'm still alive :)

Went to SGC this past weekend and found a few things. This was one of them:
