Modern Video Games / Re: handheld consoles
« on: January 07, 2014, 10:59:24 pm »
The Vita is an amazing piece of hardware. I absolutely love mine. Now, to be fair, I've spent more time replaying downloaded PS1 games, but I'm still happy I purchased it.

The 3DS is nice, has a reasonably acceptable library (3DS) and an excellent library (DS), and isn't too hard on the pocket book.

If you're looking for the ultimate handheld, I would get one of these: http://www.rosecoloredgaming.com/gameboy-advance.html

It sounds crazy, but I purchased one last year and I've played it more than any handheld. If you have an SP (and it fits your hands in such a way that makes you actually want to use it) then it might not be worth the price to you. The library on the GBA is freaking awesome.

I hope I don't sound creepy, but I like your voice, haha.

You made me add a few games to my wishlist, thanks! Nano assault seems really fun. I'm not one to usually like shooters all that much, so I had overlooked it.

Ha, not tooooo creepy :) I'm glad it was helpful!

Two upcoming games that I'm going to pick up are Bravely Default (RPG) and Yoshi's New Island.

Bravely Default:

Yoshi's New Island:

I would also suggest checking out Shinobi, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate, SMT IV, and SMT Soul Hackers.

I don't agree with that last line (Wii U immeadiatly comes to mind, some killer games coming out for it, and the Wii really does have a lot of hidden gems amongst the shovelware).

But I absolutely agree with the rest. I don't see why someone would pay for a Wii Mini when the regular Wii's are dirt-cheap right now.

Yeah, it's probably just a preference thing...but I'm tired of Mario games...very tired of them, and the only two games that I have ANY interest whatsoever in playing on the WiiU are remakes....which I already own on other systems. There are some games coming out that look great, but there are now going to be a LOT of games coming out over the next few years (PS4, etc) that peak my interest much, much more.

I just don't get the impression that Nintendo gives two shits about the WiiU. If they don't, I'm not going to waste my time.

EDIT: Yes, there are some great gems on the Wii itself, but I give companies like XSEED way more credit for that than Nintendo :)

Why do I think it's a ridiculous console? No online! You can't even access the ol' shop and get the classics. It's $100 for something that, compared to it's predecessor, is absolutely inferior. Especially considering that $100 would buy you 3 of the original Wiis that have everything the Wii Mini doesn't. It's just a heartless money grab from N IMO.

I wouldn't hate on it AT ALL if they at least put a freaking ethernet port on the back.

But don't listen to my ranting, the only thing I think Nintendo has done correctly over the past few years is the 3DS.

Got Hoshigami and Rhythm Paradise on the DS as my last game purchases this year. Hoshigami is either stupidly hard or I just fail at the game and it's genre :(

It's stupid hard.

General / The Top 10 Games I Played in 2013!
« on: December 24, 2013, 01:04:57 pm »
So, a friend and I put out a little video outlining the top 10 games each of us played in 2013. Some are new, some are old. Thought I'd post it because some of you (especially those who know me) might get a kick out of it. I might have got a few facts wrong, but hey, we were winging it :)

Oh, and I'm not putting this out here for traffic...if you don't want to, don't watch it. I don't care :)

Modern Video Games / Re: Hyrule Warriors Announced for Wii U

You know what? I'm pretty sure that Nintendo had a game that they were working on for the GameCube that had similar footage with different characters and, obviously, different graphics. They abandoned development to work on another game if I remember correctly. If I can find the footage I'll post it.

Personally, I'm not excited about anything Nintendo is doing with the WiiU. I think this is a glaring example of their inability to create new and exciting content. I don't own Skyward Sword for the same reason (and I love the LoZ franchise). All of their efforts are going into the 3DS, which has a pretty amazing library. We'll know more after the holiday sales figures are published, but I think Nintendo is going to need to rethink the WiiU if they even care about it anymore.

The only games I would purchase alongside a WiiU this point are both remakes - Windwaker and Monster Hunter - which is why I have no need to make a purchase. The same could probably be said about the PS4 at this point, but at LEAST I can trust Sony to pump out a few games that I might actually want to play in the next year or two.

EDIT: Here you go. It was called Raven Blade.

So they're looking back through abandoned projects, applying the Zelda theme instead of just putting out a new franchise, and expecting everyone to be super excited? That's just lazy....at least that's my opinion of what's going on.

I'd recommend checking out Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen. It's not a perfect game, but I spent quite a bit of time with it (beat it) and had a lot of fun doing it.

Be sure to get Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and not just Dragon's Dogma. Dark Arisen was the re-release which fixed a few issues with the original.

I'd also HIGHLY recommend Dark Souls (Unless you have a really awesome PC, then I would suggest playing it on that).

I finally picked up a Vita.

I'm not SUPER impressed with the library, but I am having fun with Persona 4 Golden and Ys: Memories of Celceta. The PS4 streaming is actually pretty good. I was a little surprised by that. The hardware is amazing...can't wait until I am someday able to emulate on it :)

It took me buying a PS4 to consider buying a Wii U. Damn Wii U...

Who has it and what do you think? I popped it in for the first time last night right before bed. It's super nostalgic and I'm liking what I'm seeing thus far. I'm barely into the game - maybe 30-45 minutes.

If I had to give it a rating on nostalgia alone, it would already get an 8 or 9 out of 10!

The game totally sucked me in. I haven't turned on the PS4 in a few days. I'll probably beat it this weekend. I think I'm at the 35ish hour mark? Level 46 or so I believe. I've noticed some issues along the way, but I'll be going out and finding a nice used copy for my collection after spending this much time with it (and having a blast).

I downloaded it on the PS3 the other day - since I now have PS+ - and it's awesome.

Who's played it and what did you think?
