Hi guys, I'm sorry for not being very talkative lately! These days I only lurk a little just before going to bed. But I'm still alive  :P

Yep, I'm really looking forward to it. :)

I had a feeling it was FF Type-0. I need to look into some information about that. I know nothing about it other than it's supposed to be a "mature Final Fantasy" because of the M rating.

So if the Ultima series was the first to introduce JRPG elements such as an overworld map with dungeons and towns, random-encounters, a party of characters to control, turn-based fighting, menu-based commands, etc.; then why do we call them JRPGs? Shouldn't we be calling them BRPGs or ERPG for British or English RPGs?

I just call them RPGs. Always have and always will.

Just a way to differentiate the JRPG style of gameplay from say Diablo or Elder Scrolls. Like a run-n-gun vs. just "action game".

Well said!

It's SOOOOooooooooooooo not worth getting into that "what's the difference", & the "What defines or precludes ___, from being called a ___, since ___ does this and that other ___ does that" - RPG debate/discussion/argument (read: personal opinions + hypotheses; really) about what RPG gets what prefix...and why ::)

Tis the Internet, so...there will never be an agreement & there will always be argument about what any game should be called - followed by a list of bullet points of why (1 person) thinks so :o

Many of my favorite games could, easily, fall under the "Strategy: Turn-Based" category and/or the "SRPG" category...

...it's a fine line; much too fine & feint for me to waste my time squinting - looking for blurry little, trivial, unimportant, and meaningless differences & anomalies between the two...when I could, instead, be *playing* them & let others think about (and try to convince yet more others why they're right:) over semantics :P

RPG game play is RPG game play. Just like action game play is action game play. I just play the games.

You guys are taking this too personal. It's just terminology so you can better describe the genre of game. There's is no denying there's distinct, defining differences between say Final Fantasy and Baldur's Gate; and JRPG vs. action-RPG just better defines those differences instead of explaining them each time.

It's like metal music. There is metal, which is a blanket term to include all metal music. And then there's specific types of metal like Black Metal, Thrash Metal, Glam Metal, etc.
