I submitted an edit, but it should probably be a separate entry, i have an variant copy, with a different bar code
and a slightly different cover, this variation includes a voucher to see the johnnt Depp movie.
I believe it was released a year later with the movie release
I included pictures of the front and back cover as well.
Not sure if this is where I pose this question, but yesterday I posted an edit for Kirby Star Allies to change the front image and It was approved by an admin but the picture wasn't changed for some reason. It still remains the original picture

Do a hard refresh. Ctrl+F5 in your browser. The image is cached and that is why you couldn't see that it had changed.
How do i do that please?https://vgcollect.com/item/1496

Yes this item exists as is, and the one with the movie ticket thing does too, and has a different barcode. So add your other one as a separate entry.

Hi there, I collect ps2 Japanese titles and couldn't see these enter the matrix for ps2.
Slotter up core 7 street fighter 2 (jp2).
Neon genesis evangelion 2.(jpn)
Soul calibur 2 (jpn)
Crash bandicoot4 (jpn)
The godfather (jpn)
These Skylanders trap entries feature multiple trap types of element and should probably be removed in favor of separate entries (which some already exist):

From what it looks like, each of these can come with 1 of 6 different things inside, that (apparently) have these names:
Emerald Energy, Jade Blade, Oak Eagle, Seed Serpent, Shrub Shrieker, and Weed Whacker
But I cannot find any picture of the sides (it looks to only have warnings) or the bottom. Where do those names come from?
I see the backer card is generic and has the same item number and UPC on the different versions, so that is not helpful.

HEY who you calling a moderator! :p
I wanted to have one example. Again this box text issue for digital games. There is no box, but we also don't want to just copy/paste from other sites onto the entry. Here is what I see on this Need for Speed Payback text that was put.
1. There are ™, ® and † symbols. These should not be here.
2. There is a URL, should not be there.
For the rest, there is information that should be in description, such as the extra items and system requirements. But when this information is put into description, the ad-speak should not be present, such as "sufficiently robust"

For steam, we copy/paste from Steam's website... and that's ok. For PSN/etc, we can't copy/paste from website for some reason?
1. What's wrong with these symbols, why shouldn't they be there?
2. What's wrong with having a URL, why shouldn't they be there?
My understanding is that all of that info goes into box text, not description. Description is used for relevant information such as variants and other necessary explanations. System requirements would go into Box text, not description, as it does not describe or differentiate the product from any other similar product.

Changed barcode, front art and back art. That one with 885370316223 is the most common for the UK version. If that guy actually has one with a different number, then it would be nice to find out what it is and we can make a new entry.

NFS was accepted so I could point out why the other was denied. Because this should be public and not a conversation kept in private. If no one could see what you had put onto the entry, how would they know what to look for?
The symbols and the URL are indicators that the text was taken directly from another website. Because VGC is also a website, this shouldn't be done because we do not have permission to do it.
For box text, the digital style says "For example, if I were to add The Simpson's Arcade Game to the database, the box text would be the summary that is listed on Xbox.com." This is an outdated example, because that game isn't on their site and there is no summary. There is this Simpsons Game and the text from Overview would be applicable.
https://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/The-Simpsons-Game/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80245410809#
And as for Steam, the text used is the small paragraph on the store page or the first (and/or second) paragraph under About this Game. With this example of Civilization V:
http://store.steampowered.com/app/8930/Sid_Meiers_Civilization_V/
The box text would be "Create, discover, and download new player-created maps, scenarios, interfaces, and more! " and not the entirety of the text in the About This Game section.
For NFS Payback, we can use a similar method to Steam:
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/games/need-for-speed-payback-ps4/
box text would be "The Need for Speed Payback - Deluxe Edition gives you an edge over the competition with up to 3 days of early access to the full game."
With the trademark symbol removed. Not all the text from that page, not verbatim. List package contents or system requirements in description field. The reason we don't need to store all of another website's text is because it is available on that site.
So to be aware, if box text on a digital game is a large amount of text, has symbols or URLs in it, it will/can be rejected by admins or retro-actively removed by users doing edits.
To verify, my latest rejection was the glare on the image?
But we have Amiibo and GunCon2 bundles under games if there's a game with them, no?Yeah, I have no interest in adding AC5 twice into my collection. I thought the whole thing was it should be listed as the item was purchased. What is being suggested is that we add the flightstick and game separately, which just causes there to be an extra AC5 under PS2[NA] because there will be the regular game and the NFR AC5 game that came with the flightstick, even though that NFR game was never sold separately.
So we're defaulting to games that AC5 bundle would go under games and the individual accessories would be listed separately.
Is it a game that comes with an accessory, or an accessory that comes with a game?Definitely a game that comes with an accessory. Any suggestion otherwise is just ridiculous. These items are absolutely and unequivocally branded as the specific GAME, not the accessory.
Take this into consideration, we allow separate entries for games that are included within packs, such as those that come with a console. The console is into the hardware section and the game into the game section. On the game entry, if it has its own box, then you put that picture as the front art. If it has no box, then you put the cart/disc as the front art. You would NOT put the console's box as the front art.
The same applies to accessories.
There should be no consoles or accesories in a game category.
Definitely a game that comes with an accessory.
Why would you need to have it twice in your collection? If you have just the game, you add the game to your collection. If you have just the flightstick or the flightstick complete, you would add the accessory. Why? Because I only have the complete flightstick bundle, but now that that is no longer considered a game, if I want to see the game listed under PS2[NA] I have to go add AC5 separately from the complete bundle. Now I have 2 of AC5 in my collection. In your eyes, you see it listed as the flightstick and the PS2 game separately (which is ridiculous because that's not how it was sold).
And there would only get to be a separate Ace Combat 5 game listing if there was anything different with the game that comes in the set. Some of these sets just have the regular retail game inside, in that case it would not get to have a separate listing. The description on the regular game would need to say it was also available with x set.
Collector's Editions that do not come with game hardware do not have to follow game hardware category rules. But sure someone could add the books and cds or whatever separately if they wanted. This is only an issue because we can't tie item records to each other.
You conveniently left out the important part of my statement. The fact that these are absolutely branded and advertised as the game in question. There is a specific difference between these items.Definitely a game that comes with an accessory.
We can't make that assumption because there is no standard to how these items are labelled. Either we have use the categories as intended:
- consoles go into hardware
- accessories go into accessories
- games go into games
Or it just is wild west and we can put any item into any category? If you wouldn't put a console into a game category, just because it came with a game, then you wouldn't put an accessory in a game category for the same reason. If you want to get technical, then it would be allowed to put a Sega Master System into SMS [NA] games category because it came with Snail Maze built-in and was not sold separately?
Why? Because I only have the complete flightstick bundle, but now that that is no longer considered a game, if I want to see the game listed under PS2[NA] I have to go add AC5 separately from the complete bundle. Now I have 2 of AC5 in my collection. In your eyes, you see it listed as the flightstick and the PS2 game separately (which is ridiculous because that's not how it was sold).

https://vgcollect.com/item/9259 (https://vgcollect.com/item/9259) Remove?
Is it a real game or no? Since it has an old number, it must have been created from a list (like most other old games on the site) and while it seems that there is no game with that title, I had found it on 2 game lists (one of which is only in google's cache atm) such as:
http://www.sorethumbretrogames.com/atari-lynx-games-list
There is no problem to remove it, but first I would want to make sure that this isn't some translation issue, or perhaps a bootleg game's name.
https://vgcollect.com/item/141962
Based off of the picture, the entry is titled wrong and put under the wrong system, as it is not the upcoming remastered version for the One, but the Greatest Hits packaging version of the 360 game.
My edit to the game Driver: You Are The Wheelman - Greatest Hits (https://vgcollect.com/item/9915) was rejected. I was trying to change the incorrect name of Driver: You Are The Wheelman - Greatest Hits to the correct name of Driver - Greatest Hits. To clarify, the tag line "You Are The Wheelman" is not a subtitle of the game, it's just a tag line. I understand how this can be confusing considering how it appears on the cover. I noticed that all other instances of this game are mislabeled too. I have submitted corrections. I hope they will be accepted this time.
We try to use full titles from the front of a game release, that is why those entries are like that. It is a concession to allow such things for other games, rather than keep a large complicated list of which games we use full front titles and which ones we don't, we just do it for everything.
A rule of thumb I tend to use is. If it's not printed on the spine of the case, then it's probably not part of the title.

Brazil is not [NA]. I get that we have no region for [ BR], but that doesn't mean it goes there. We need to, and this should've been done when you made the edit, make a Wii [ BR] category.
Also, one of the pictures shows El Chavo with ESRB branding (The Mexican release, not the Brazilian release).
Item number likely isn't the same as the MX release.

I can find no reference of a NA physical release of this game. Possibly someone more thorough than I could prove me wrong?
Not really an error listing but I've noticed a lot of people lately have been filling up the Description field with a bunch of word salad. Case in point on this recently created entry...https://vgcollect.com/item/143985
"Combining traditional platforming with stunningly beautiful puzzle play, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood will take you on a cinematic fairy-tale adventure. Armed with only his trusty Magic Marker, Max must journey to a hostile and unforgiving world to rescue his kidnapped kid brother, Felix. Do not waiver, unleash the power of the Marker to defeat your foes and find your way through a frightening and fantastical world."
Seems like a lot of wasted effort when someone like me comes along and blanks all that out with an edit to make the entry compliant. :P

I noticed some dupes in there too, like Demo Disc vol. 60. I'm on my phone otherwise I would grab them.At some point I'm planning on going through the OXM demos and updating the images and stuff because I have a ton.
Hi! I was wondering about a change on the .hack//Quarantine games... Both the NA and JP releases were originally listed as it is officially formatted, but they both recently got changed while no other game in the series was changed and now they do not match. It seems like a really odd change since even official sources use ".hack//" as the series name. I rarely see "Dot Hack" or the lack of the // when using a subtitle on the full titles outside of casual conversation. I really think both pages should be changed back to match with the rest of the series, but my friend tried to change one and was rejected. I know the logo on the front cover of the NA version added the word "dot" on top of the actual dot, but I believe they did that so people knew for sure how to pronounce it.
The pages in question:
NA: https://vgcollect.com/item/1325
JP: https://vgcollect.com/item/47490
So the NA release should be titled ".hack//QUARANTINE" or ".hack//QUARANTINE Part 4". The Final Chapter part really isn't part of the title.
For the JP release, it should be ".hack//Zettai Houi Vol. 4" to match with the other 3 games.
For reference, the spines on the US releases use just the ".hack//QUARANTINE" format without the use of part 4 and such.
FIFA Football 2005 [EU] PS2
https://vgcollect.com/item/48156
My copy has bar code: 503093003856 and so does image of back-cover in mobygames:
http://www.mobygames.com/game/ps2/fifa-soccer-2005/cover-art/gameCoverId,263485/
so I suspect that this bar code is from some other release or we have case of two English releases with identical cover art , rating, text and item numbers but with different bar codes.
Item titles for just the Quarantine items were fixed (i asked Metshael to help on the French version because I couldn't read it in the picture) to reflect the naming policy. Front title goes on the item entry, Spine title, disc/cart title or other variations go into alt-name.
US item gets the word "dot" because it exists on the cover. The Japanese version does not have a word there, so it can start with the period. So now, the US version title matches what it actually says on the front cover, sans the Japanese text. Same with the Japanese entry.
And even so, it would seem that all the common names (perhaps fan-names) are all wrong anyways.... Look at the part 4, it is not Part 4 of Quarantine, it is Part 4 of .Hack.
The other games in the series were not changed because I didn't happen upon them in my rounds, only these as I was actually searching for "Quarantine" and these were in the results.
If these subtitles are to be removed because of the site's naming guidelines, it should be done for all titles instead of just Vol. 4, even though it would not be consistent with the actual titles. The same should go for any non-Japanese release of any of the games that have the pronunciation "dot" in the logo.

Okay so three things. First of all, setting aside the topic at hand, it's undeniable that this change carries very serious implications for the database. Yet this hasn't been communicated to any of the regular users who do work in the database, and it's STILL not in the style guide whatsoever.

Myth Makers Super Cart GP is franken entry, but it is mostly due to the front art. This game was originally released in 2004 and had two reprints in 2007 for UK region. So there are 3 releases for UK or with UK flag on the back. There may be at least 1 release for each of the other countries.
Entry currently has a cover with Data Designs logo in the bottom middle and Phoenix logo in bottom right. I can't find a UK version with this arrangement... However, there is a late AU version with the OFLC rating label overtop... you can see it here:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/283101262427
As seen there, that is the 2004 release with rating label over it. It is not AU version, as AU got its own 2004 release with old rating label printed on the cover. So when this game was re-released, they imported old EU stock and was relabelled. Whatever this EU version is, I am not certain, because it is not on Ebay UK.
UK has three main versions
1. With Data Design logo in bottom right corner (2007 GODS re-release)
2. With Data Design logo in bottom center, and hologram in bottom right corner (2007 GrabIt re-release)
3. With Data Design and Phoenix logo in bottom right corner. (2004 original version)

The back image on the entry was just clear enough for me to see that the barcode you put in was indeed correct, vs the one on the entry already. :)
My Thursday September 6th, 2018 at 9:37 AM edit to fix this was rejected?
Title is currently is "Universal S-AV Cable GC/PS2/Xbox/Xbox 360 by MadCatz" this is not correct for the current Item Picture, as the picture has NO XBOX 360 connector. (I own the same cable as in the picture, mine is even the same color.) I suggest the title be changed to "Universal S-AV Cable GC/PS2/Xbox by MadCatz" or something similar, removing "/Xbox 360" from the title.
Were those entries created with a barcode and item numbers already on the entry? It is not clear from the history.
If an item is created with no item number or barcode (and not TLD or accompanying description) the item is typically treated as being the UK/English version of the game. Of course, the images would ultimately determine what the item was supposed to be, so if the images clearly show the item is not the UK/English version, then they would have priority.

The title was changed from "Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash - Girls' of Paradise Collector's Edition" to "Senran Kagura: Peach Beach Splash: Girls' of Paradise - Collector's Edition"
This was originally rejected due to the fact we do not correct romanization differences.
Based on our common names policy, this game can either be named:
Game de Hakken!! Tamagotchi Osucchi to Mesucchi
or
Tamagotchi: Osutchi & Mesutchi
Since the name put onto the edit was neither of these, the edit was rejected. It is recommended that the first be put onto the entry as the title, and the alternate romanizations put into alt-name field after the already existing Japanese text.
Should these two titles be modified to Donkey Kong (NES) and Donkey Kong (GB)?

Name change was rejected as the existing title meets our requirements of the Common Name policy in the Style Guide. There is a conflict for our two main sources, one uses Flip Out! and the other uses FlipOut!. The correct action here would be to put FlipOut! into alt-name. If you wish, you can note in the description that the game title as rendered in the manual is FlipOut! while on the front of the box it is Flip Out!

As there is a conflict with the two main sources, would the developer's website be considered a valid source? They do list the game as "FlipOut!"
https://web.archive.org/web/20000303134638/http://www.gorilla.com:80/products.htm
Also, the way the title is presented on the front of the box is a stylized logo, however elsewhere on the box it is written in plain text as "FlipOut!" (copyright section at the bottom):
https://www.mobygames.com/game/flipout/cover-art/gameCoverId,13688/
We are using few general sources for common names rather than having some lengthy list of sources for every different game and/or item that may exist. Because there is a conflict in the two sources (and no Jaguar specific resource has been nominated for inclusion to the resource list) it is best to leave the entry's name as is and put the other name format into alt-name. Then in description it can be noted how the name appears in the copyright info or the manual and that the game's name logo has it as two words.

I think for whatever reason, I could not get a good crop of that one. If you already have the art you can update the entry.
And then I believe that this would end up getting [NL] onto the name as well.
I removed the front art on that entry.

It isn't required. You would only need the [UK] TLD put onto a game in the EU section if there is another English language version in that category that is not for UK. Then you can put UK on the UK one. Currently, there are no other versions of this game in the category, so there is no need to add a differentiator.

Should probably have the art below, and a separate entry for the "Best Shooter" art, or it should be modified as a variant and an entry created for the art below.

It certainly should NOT have the art you put. That has RP, the game has been out for 3 years now, you could find the actual artwork. BUT, there doesn't seem to be any other version of the "non Edition" release of this game in the US than the one that has that Best Shooter mark. You find a US non-edition without that, then we can think about it.
Yeah I was adding the game to my collection and saw that it still had an RP image (I think) so I added what the image based on what I own.
I don't think there's another version without the "best shooter 2014" image either, just from a quick scan of Ebay. The Limited Edition has a few variants though it seems

I picked up 4 and Primal last weekend and this series has so many silly "Limited Edition" w/ bonus editions it is ridiculous. There wasn't a standard edition entry for 4 on XB1 until I made it last week. They were all Limited and Complete editions.

The reason this happens is/was a debated topic here for some time. Do we allow people to create entries for games that haven't come out yet? The timeline for Far Cry 4 is one example of why this causes a problem for us. Here is an example:
1. Far Cry 4 announced for physical PS4 release
2. User creates Far Cry 4 entry with no art OR pre-release stock photo (with or without rating)
3. Game is released as Limited Edition
So at the point of release there is no "Far Cry 4" instead it is Far Cry 4 Limited Edition, which doesn't exist in the database. Then the entry that was made before the game comes out becomes a franken-entry. Some games never get anything besides a first print and sometimes those games only have an "Edition" when the game finally comes out. In the case of Far Cry 4, the "regular" version (that ends up having Best Shooter flag) is a reprint, non "Edition" release. And this is why trying to fix these entries is such a problem. They end up with the wrong item numbers and barcodes on them added later, and then collections are not correct either.
So this reason, as well as the fact that games get announced and never come out, are the main arguments as to why entries for things that do not yet exist should not have entries created for them.

If a console has color variants or bundles, these should be listed like special edition games are. So each color variation/ bundle should be listed as a special release of a game would be. Unlike games, which use parenthesis for variants, each hardware release has it's own factory item number.
