Post by: jcalder8 on March 01, 2013, 07:54:07 pm
I guess I get to start it this month :)

I picked up:
Greg Hastings Paintball 2 for the 360 for $10
White Knight Chronicles II for the PS3 for $15

Both used and complete.

Nice! I have always wanted to give one a try but I have never even seen one in person.

The phrase is flung around too loosely for it to really mean anything, but the Lynx was genuinely ahead of its time - there was only five months difference between the original Game Boy and Lynx release dates! It does go to show that technical power really doesn't mean a thing when it comes to commercial success, but it still deserved to do better than it did.

Atari is definitely one of the companies that honestly should have done better than it did. I honestly think that Atari is an undeniable reason why gaming is as popular as it is. I never touched a lynx either (I cant even recall seeing one for sale). Nice on your dad to find it. :)

Anyway, I deleted my other one and I'll just post the info here:

Came home to find a few packages :)

Some were the new Atoms for Peace album and the other was

Went and did a little hunting today. I haven't been boring everyone with every single pickup but I had some fun this time (a few we're only $1 and I needed them to fill a box):

NES:

American Gladiators
Metal Storm
Wall Street Kid
Dragon Spirit: The New Legend

SNES:

BioMetal
Super Nova
Rex Ronan (I knew what it was, I have a purpose for the purchase)

GB:

Castlevania: Legends
Mario Land 2
5 project GBs (3 Gray, 1 Green, 1 Black)
1 collection GB (Black; The nicest condition GB I've ever found in the wild)

Genesis:

Strider
Gadget Twins (Complete)

XBox:

Arc Fatalis (Complete)

PS2:

Shadow Hearts (Complete)

DS:

Plants vs. Zombies (Complete)

Nothing too crazy but still had a lot of fun :)

So freaking pretty. I love the way the board plugs in and makes it look like a little game console!

Also, your blog is awesome ^.^

I'm really glad you like my blog too, I do my best!

Just one thing today:

Tintin : Objectif Aventure for PC. One of two French games I saw last week, I figured I'd grab it today since it has English text as well. $2. The other French game was based on some sort of TV show and it definitely didn't have any English so I left it behind.

Do eeeeet. I was on the fence about Yakuza for a long time, and finally hopped on board with Yakuza 4. Strange as it may sound, it reminded me a LOT of Shenmue, but with better combat and voice acting.

I have a feeling we won't be getting the HD collection or Yakuza 5 in the US, though. Sega's gotten really jittery lately, and as far as I know, has yet to confirm either of them.

You just gotta buy an AMD 7800 series video card, not sure how long this promotion will keep going on. You also get Bioshock Infinite free  :)
And if you have crappier taste in games you can get a 7900 series card and get Crysis 3 instead of Tomb Raider :P

I'm almost ashamed of it!  For the longest time I made myself abide by a sort of self-governing rule that I not buy games for consoles/handhelds I don't own.  I've only recently begun to throw that one out the window.  I have one PS3 game (Ar Tonelico Qoga Premium LE) and no PS3, and a good handful of PSP games and no PSP...  I guess there's no turning back now!

I will definitely give out my 3DS friend code when I get one.  :)

Hot Dog and Fright Rider are now part of my collection. My son and wife are both done with the game so I am just slowly picking them up unlike the first one where we had to get them all right away.

My order of Castlevania Mirror of Fate came in with the pre order bonus. The armor that came with it is super cheap, and the decal for it came not applied. So I had to put it on myself. Lame.

And I also got this guy!

Got mah blue Claptrap figurine in the mail yesterday.  I'd originally purchased it from Gearbox, but they said their shipment had damaged packaging, so they said I could cancel it if I wanted to.  I found a cheaper, undamaged one on eBay.  Probably even less likely that I'll open it now since it was a one-time run and potentially a bunch of them have damaged packaging.

They had like 5 Blue Claptraps at Toys R Us last night. I was really tempted to get one... but I was already spending money I shouldt have on thaT Pyro... but I "needed" that Pyro, so ya.

Yeah, they're not too expensive now, so I'm glad the Gearbox one was refunded to me.  It's only like $20 on Newegg, I think.

I miss Toys R Us. It was fun just to browse through the video game section, try out the systems, and look at the action figures.

Ours shut down a few years back.

Went to Thrillhouse games today. Brought back a Saturn with Layer Section, virtua stick, and a stunner. Then from another location picked up Policenauts.  The Japanese Saturn collection has begun.

Guess I'll have to pass by there tomorrow... I've been looking for those Claptrap figurines for a while and over here in Canada ordering online means paying something like 30-40$ for the blue ones or 50+ for the normal ones.

This is something I'd like collecting, game-related figures, but all the ones I want I find really too expensive... as in I'd rather buy games instead :P

Anybody here pick up Atelier Ayesha: The Alchemist of Dusk yet?

Just wondering...

The last 3 'Atelier' games (Atelier: Rorona, Totori, and Meruru); I'd pre-ordered the LE's of...right around the time it became possible to do so.

It's no secret here that I like N1 - and that I enjoy supporting them, and that I'm usually pretty quick to do so.

The *anomaly* (well, actually there's several) with this newest Atelier game are:

A.  It's the 1st game in a new "arc".  The last 3 games (mentioned above) made up the 3 games in the "Arland" arc.

- Now, this is nothing unusual, as the Atelier games have been known to come out in story arcs of 3's (The 3 "Iris" games, the 3 "Arland" games), etc.

- (Presumably), this is/should be the 1st/opening game in the next set/arc of 3 (iirc, it's to be called either the "Dusk" or "Twilight World") trilogy.

B.  More significantly and *controversially* (because..."gamers"), is the fact that, since the last 3 (Arland) games, GUST (the company making the games), has been bought-out/taken-over by...Techmo-Koei.

- When this became common knowledge, there was the (usual & expected) high amount of threads, sites, forums, blogs, and the (*God damnit! I'm so sick & tired of*) OPINIONS stated & posted as FACTS, etc. of our brother "pundits" of the gaming industry (read: the "keyboard-kowboyz" (read: *MY* term for the equivalent of "armchair" fill-in-the-blanks, "Couch Coaches/Crusaders" and/or "jailhouse lawyers" types of things:)

Setting sites & web-spaces everwhere aflame with their hypothesizing (they'll actually begin with a "Now, this is just me guessing & speculating here, but")...

...and then *STILL* finish their sentence/statement by...yep, ya' guessed it...stating whatever guesses & opinions they just talked about...as...*FACTS*

*SHUDDERS*

YES!  This vexes me to no end - and is one of my most-hated pet peeves *Raaawwwr*  >:(

Anyhow, coming back in from the tangent/rant that I went off on...

- TK really didn't (to my knowledge, at least) market/advertise the game at all, since they were the "Localizers" (instead of NISA) this time...there was no LE and/or any extras for the established fan-base (admittedly, small & niche here in the West), and (apparently) they committed one of the most heinous & un-forgiveable sins by...

...dropping/cutting the option to play/switch-over to a Japanese dub of the game  :o

Personally - I just don't give a shit about this, as I've never understood the appeal & importance (and, I actually seem to be in the minority on this side of the issue) of being able to play a game in a language that I don't understand  :-\

Maybe, if some of you here *do* find/understand the importance of this...please do share it here :)

- I "get" that losing & receiving *less* options is never a good or consumer-friendly thing,

- I can totally understand why something like this would bother those fluent in Japanese and bi-lingual gamers,

- I can understand (and even join the masses:) in complaining about the lowering of the "norm"/what we have come to expect from previous installments of certain games & series, by certain companies/localizers,

*BUT*

- I just don't get why those who don't/can't speak, read, or understand Japanese in the 1st place...would go so far as to try and form "boycotting movements", and, not only just vote w/ their wallet themselves (by not buying the game) -but- by also trying to convince as many as possible to do the same, because...

...there's no option for them to play the game...in a language that they don't even know

As always, just my 2 cents (and, yes...I do realize that I'm losing $ here since every time I give my 2 cents...all that I ever get is a penny for my thoughts:)

Thanks, fellow vgcollectors for, once again, tolerating my racing jumbles of words & feelings that never fail to = a RANT  ;D

It's about authenticity more than understanding, it's about being as close to the original as possible. There's also the fact that Japanese voice overs are usually much better quality than their western counterparts - and if you don't understand Japanese then it'll still sound better than an average English dub.

I don't get all in a lather over it, but then again I have the luxury of being able to buy everything in Japanese anyway.

w/o understanding the language, though - how would one even be able to differentiate between what is good/bad voice acting?

That's the point - you can tell right off if it's a bad English dub (which let's face it, it's more likely to be a bad/average English dub than a great one) but if you don't understand Japanese then you can't tell, so your experience isn't ruined by somebody shouting SPIRITS GIVE ME STRENGTH for 40 hours.

Fair point.

Still, *personally*, I think that I'd prefer a bad to mediocre telling/voice-acting of a story that I can understand...over a flawless performance that I can't really appreciate and/or get anything from in a language that I know nothing about...

Haha!

I *have* Chaos Wars for the PS2!

Still, since I really only play rpg's (where story *does* matter, to me)...I'll still take that fail-worthy, nausea-inducing dub...just so I can *follow* the story - instead of just looking at menus written in characters that are meaningless (to me)...

Didn't read the rest of your post yet... but no. I actually had this pre-ordered at bestbuy.ca, and they have yet to get it in stock. No idea what's going on. Same thing happened with Etrian Odyssey 4 actually, but at least with that I had the option to cancel my pre-order and buy it in-store, but they don't have Ayesha in store... So I can only wait.

That said, just went to the flea market store I go to sometimes... Got out of there with Castlevania Curse of Darkness on Xbox and Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver on Dreamcast.

Sadly the Toys R Us didn't have a Claptrap figure, so I picked up a smaller Wreck-It Ralph figure there.

Funny, Scott and I were just complaining about the grunts and gasps and such that are all over Fire Emblem: Awakening.  I switched over to the Japanese language track, and it's *much* more bearable.  Yes, I might not understand when they possibly say things like "Let me have strength!" or "Give me a break!" or whatever cheesy things they might be saying, but at least it doesn't pull me out of the game and make me hate the characters...  For some reason the gasps and grunts with American voices feel way over the top while the Japanese ones don't bother me in the least.  Not sure if it's because I've heard it all before in other JRPGs or because American voices really are that much more jarring...

So much this, and it applies to foreign language films as well. It's about authenticity, preserving the original tone and intent, and for me, learning that these things are communicated regardless of whether you understand the original language.

As far as Japanese games go, voice acting isn't a disposable thing that they just get random people off the street to do. Seiyu go through rigorous training, and the field is very competitive, which shines through in the work they do. By contrast, look at most English dubbed anime and video games - it's consistently the same stable of people, and outside of the rare exception like Jennifer Hale, they're failed TV/movie actors who do it largely to pay the bills, or worse, random people or enthusiastic fans who have no business anywhere near a microphone.

It's even worse if a characters is supposed to be cutesy, over the top, or really excitable, and in some cases, poor VA quality is enough to make a game virtually unplayable.

Well, sort of. I run a group of retro gamers with several of my friends and one of the members of the group has quite a few copies (he basically went all over and picked up a bunch of them predicting the price spike). I bought one from him. If anyone is seriously looking for a copy then I can get you in contact with him. He's pretty price savvy but I did get it for under market. He probably hooked me up a little bit because of our group, but he typically sells stuff at ~ 15-20% off of eBay prices to individuals.

Cool, just let me know.

He might actually be on here. I honestly don't know. A lot of our members track their collections on VGC now. When you're running a group across multiple states and have over 300 members it gets tricky remembering names, much less online handles.

Got a nice (as far as I can tell) CRT television from the apartment dumpster. I hooked the Dreamcast to it. I don't know if it REALLY looks better than the LCD. However, it does somehow look better. I can see every single pixel. But the opening of King of Fighters Dream Match 99 looks as epic as I remember it when I was a kid. I did not think the opening seemed epic on my LCD. It might be nostalgia goggles, but I likes it.  8)

The tube does seem curved, but not very pronounced. The next thing to see is if light guns work.

I got into imports a few years back just by using emulators, and it's only recently that I've started buying stuff, but there are actually a LOT of games that are very playable even without knowing the language. JRPGs and SRPGs are sadly out of the question, unless there's a fan translation, but there are tons of cool shmups, fighting games, side-scrollers, puzzle games, etc. that don't require any knowledge of Japanese.

Take classes, watch lots of japanese stuff.
My japanese isn't very good (I only took a year of beginner classes that were too slow for me so I didn't learn as much as I wanted), but in general I can at least navigate menus and understand what's going on in cinematics if there's voice acting.

That is one of my favorite NES games. When I was a kid, around 1997 or so, I read someone's geocities NES site. His favorite game was Crash n' the Boys. I had to hunt the game down. It is one of the best on the NES.

I've barely picked up anything since garage sale season ended around here, mostly scrounging pawn shops and thrift stores.  Found a few things recently though:

Xbox: Enclave - $3
NES: Darkman - $5
PSP-1001 - $10.  I've been wanting one for a long time, but I'm cheap :)  However, this $10 one didn't power on and came with no charging cable.  I'll take it to my local game store this weekend to see if they can test it.  Keeping fingers crossed.

The best news is that I tracked down a cheap used copy of Xenoblade Chronicles yesterday.  I've actually owned it since it was first released, but have left it sealed.  After watching the price climb over the past year, it became harder and harder to open that new copy.   So I managed to find a used copy at a good price and it should be arriving this weekend.  Can't wait to have a copy I can actually play :D

Then again, I've also read (and *LOVED*) all of the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books/series...and...some of us know how well that did (read: *Didn't*) translate into video games...

Oh, just to be clear: I make no comments on the content of the books, or the themes they carry. I may not agree with them, but that's their own thing. I'm commenting on the actual quality of the game.

I've seen good religious games (movies, music, and other media too) be made, unfortunately many of them use the religion itself as a way to shield themselves from criticism.

TL;DR: I don't give a damn if you're praising Cthulhu, IF YOUR GAME SUCKS THEN IT SUCKS. :)

you know what the weirdest thing about the religious genre is, about 92 to 97 percent of them are christian and the other 8 to 3 percent are about other religions, so if you find a game thats based around other religions, its probably rare and yes i did do the math to come up these percentages

Bah, the PSP I picked up for $10 at Goodwill turned out to be a dud.  I took it to Gamers, my local used game store, and they tested it out for me.  No go, but they actually gave me $10 in-store credit for it, so I essentially broke even on it.

I did manage to pick up my copy of XenoBlade Chronicles, as well as Freedom Force (NES), Wing Commander & Sim Earth (SNES) and Resident Evil 2 (PS1) at my first garage sale of the year.  Here we go again!

Thanks for the rec! I was actually the happiest when I found Comix Zone. I've been looking for it in the wild for a while now. It's in pretty bad shape but it was $5 and will fill the void until I replace it with a complete copy someday.

The backlit GBA is awesome too. Didn't really 'find' it but it came in the mail yesterday and I just had time to open it up and play with it today. It destroys the SP in so many ways.

I would recommend it. It's a little spendy to just sit on a shelf, but if you plan on playing it then it's totally worth it. I will literally never play on the SP again.

Oh yeah, Comix Zone is a great, unique beat-em up. But Duck Tales 2 is a fan-freaking-tastic platformer, and it's a $100 game in that condition while Comix Zone is quite common.

$100 here is roughly the equivalent cost of a new 360/PS3 collector's edition - it's a bit expensive but it's not Heim Waltz/Sapphire/Rendering Ranger sort of money.

Well yeah. But there aren't a whole lot of NES games that fetch more than that. Personally, that's too much to spend on a single game for me.

I also recently got Kirby Super Star for Wii Virtual Console for 150 Club Nintendo Points. I really wanted Paper Mario for 200 points, but I was 10 points shy and both offers were about to expire.

Not trying to brag at all, but your estimates in DT2 are a little off. Someone scored a deal on the complete DT2 at the 100 dollar mark on eBay. The cart alone typically sells for $100-125. It's a little closer to BB2 with the box and manual.

EDIT: I'm saying that a complete DT2 goes for about what a BB2 cart goes for on eBay right now.

I was just shopping around for it recently, and I was finding that DT2 carts were starting at around $65-$70 plus shipping. Didn't get it, though. I ended up getting some PS1 RPGs, instead (Parasite Eve, and FF 8, 9, & 10; and Armored Core)

Looking at ebay completed listings, it seems NTSC-U goes for about 100-125. But the PAL versions for for 65-70. Were you looking elsewhere than ebay?

I picked up a couple things between friday night and today.

Friday night, I won an auction for a complete copy of Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door for 23.50. I was quite happy with that as I just sort of discovered the Paper Mario series, (currently playing Paper Mario from VC on my Wii U), and heard this one could be kind of pricey.

I also bought a copy of Skies of Arcadia: Legends off amazon earlier today for 56.00, and did one day shipping. It is complete as well. I have played it before, and while I wasn't a huge fan I thought I could give it another chance.

And last, I picked up the guide for New Super Mario Bros. U at Target today while I was getting some medicine for my wife. I like the guide, and the poster it came with.

Also debating running up to Best Buy tomorrow as they are suppose to have that Adventure Time game on the 3DS for 9.99. Hoping to get a copy.

paper mario 1 is my first rpg, it not easy but its fun and vary good and some go's for the thousand year door, unfortunately the last two games have forgotten what makes paper mario good especially sticker star ware the rpg elements were an afterthought, i'm not saying there bad but it not paper mario anymore

I found Batman Vengeance for PC (disc only in sleeve) for fifty cents. Along with like twenty other copies of the same game. o_O

I also got a GBA Action Replay for $1.50 and... what appears to be a breakaway cable for oldschool Xbox controllers, but instead of having an Xbox plug, it's a normal USB plug. That was $1.50 as well.

I tried the Action Replay on my GBA SP and it didn't do anything. I got the Game Boy logo but that was it. Anyone know if these things are fragile or prone to dying?

No I didn't. And I won't, the games are common enough that I can get a loose copy of each for next to nothing. Most Majesco rereleases are super easy to find. They were well stocked and did not sell well. There is one title, that if Majesco did rerelease it, is probably worth something. I remember a debate on SMSPower about whether a majesco version even actually existed. The title escapes me at the moment though.

A system sealed can go for a decent amount though due to better capacitors. But I don't know any majesco games that are worth much. I will look into it though.

EDIT: The game I was thinking of was Frogger. A prototype exists, and there is art for it on the back of the Majesco box, but never released. The Majesco rereleases are 10 games, all quite common NIB: Disney's The Lion King, Aladdin, The Jungle Book, Deep Duck Trouble, Caesars Palace, Super BattleTank, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Spinball,Pac Man, and Ms. Pac Man.

I also got a GBA Action Replay for $1.50 and... what appears to be a breakaway cable for oldschool Xbox controllers, but instead of having an Xbox plug, it's a normal USB plug. That was $1.50 as well.
It could be the adapter for the wired 360 guitar.

... uh, I dunno.

I thought the 360 used normal USB plugs. This has an original Xbox connector at the end. Also, it won't fit my gamepads. >:|

360 wired controller has breakaway connectors like the orig Xbox, but with usb and they are smaller so they won't fit on a Xbox.

I got 2 new strategy guides yesterday...

Opened my e-mails, and, read that I have 20,000+ Gamestop points  :o

Since I don't sell/trade anything there *EVER*, and since I'm not thrilled w/ B2G2 deals...I saw a printable coupon for:

"Free Strategy Guide" (read: fine print = "up to $20 towards any guide") for 10,000 points each.

Since I'm a sucker for collecting not only games (but giclees, guides, ost's, etc) - this seemed to be the 'closest-to-cash' deal that I could find...could NOT combine the 2 $20 coupons, to say, get a $40 hardback guide :(

Walked in, picked out the guides for Kingdom Hearts (3-DS version) & Dragon's Dogma, handed-in a coupon for each (they were each $19.99 "New")...and they didn't even charge any taxes, or anything...left w/ the 2 guides w/o spending a penny  ;D

Since I just saved that penny...you guys better watch out...'cause when I do my next big ("2 cents worth" rant)...it's gonna be/you're all gonna get *3* cents worth  :o

I got Senran Kagura on Vita! I'm still desperately looking for stuff to play on that... and I like really stupid games :P

There's a big sticker on the plastic that says I can't distribute, circulate, sell, hire, give, lend, show, play or project this game to anyone below 18.... weird.

Sonic CD, Shining Force, Lunar, Vay, are all good games.

Some standard genesis games have a better CD version. Earthworm Jim, Ecco, and Spiderman come to mind.

If you want a Sega CD FMV experience, pick up Wirehead, Night Trap, Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, Ground Zero Texas. But do not pay much for these. They can be a fun novelty if you like cheesy games (Dragon's Lair and Space Ace are not cheesy or novelty, but fit with the FMV genre)

EDIT: The other recommendation is to put no CD in and listen to that awesome boot music.

Top choices for Sega CD, IMO:

-Eternal Champions: Challenge From the Darkside
-Final Fight CD
-Lords of Thunder - Great shoot-em up with a fantasy-setting, and one of the best, most rocking soundtracks ever in a video game.
-Mortal Kombat
-Road Rash
-Robo-Aleste (shoot-em up)
-Sidearms
-Sonic CD - Best Sega CD game, IMO.
-Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin

The friend who has been rooting around for games to sell online suggested that I check a local shop that sells donated items to artists and teachers. Usually it just has magazines and bottle caps and stuff, but my friend said they had about two shelves worth of games that I might want to check out.

I came away with the following:
The first two columns are only case and manual, but in good condition.

The top two in the third column are case only.

Burnout Dominator is sealed.

I didn't see any prices, so I took the lot up to the desk.  Cashier: "$1.20"

Yeah, she said "one-twenty," and I was like, "Wait, one dollar and twenty cents?" and she nodded.  "Yeah, they're just empty cases." (I didn't correct her about Burnout.)

It's the sort of place that has some prices up but will just quote you something lower if you buy a bunch of stuff so that they can clear out their inventory faster (it's a non-profit).  I'd go back, but I don't know if I need any more empty cases :)  Also, everything else was basically sports stuff.

Well it was a hard decision, but i did not turn my N64 on since the last 3 years. I love Nintendo but the N64 is my least favorite system. I have never been able to enjoy the N64 gamepad.

I acquired a SNES, Genesis, Dreamcast, and PS1 last weekend, but wanted to wait until I could get them cleaned up a bit, since they were all a bit grimy and nicotine-stained. They were also all completely free!

The SNES is the one I had growing up, and according to the sticker on the back, it was purchased on 9/10/1993. Box is in great shape, as is the overall system, as it's still pretty close to the original color despite YEARS of my parents smoking indoors when I was younger.

The others are inherited from my Mom's ex-boyfriend, who passed away from liver and prostate cancer last year. Without getting into too much detail, he and I didn't never got along, partially due to his alcoholism, and in many respects, I hate the guy... but when you see someone dying in front of you, it's hard to hold onto that feeling. His kids don't give a damn about any of this stuff, so I felt like these old systems deserved a good home, and I've been wanting to get back to my gaming roots, anyway.

I thought about doing some before-and-after shots, but decided to just dig in and start cleaning them up as best I could. The pics are what they look like after some elbow grease with a Magic Eraser, and a mixture of peroxide and baking soda. Still not perfect, but not too bad! A couple games came in too, so this past week has basically been like Christmas :)

from what i understand smoking was not the issue with the color change. its sunlight. the plastic used on the SNES contained Bromine. this is what changed the nice grey color to the stained yellow color.

nice to see yours has little of this. the one i picked up was kept in a garage and is stopless on the ourside. sadly there is rust on the internal plate and the outside of the pin reader.

Yeah, the yellowing on the controller ports is almost certainly the result of that. It was thankfully kept in a relatively dark place most of the time, even when I was a kid, so that probably helped a lot, though I've seen comments that oxidization plays a role, too.

The nicotine is mostly the nasty, sticky crap I spent a couple hours wiping off, along with hardened human hand sweat (seriously, the PS1 controller was enough to make a person throw up and took an hour on its own) from my Mom's ex, and other sundry bits. Didn't cause the same kind of yellowing, but there was a definite veneer of something foul that darkened the color on everything. I think I got most of it, or as much as I could without dipping everything in a solution of some kind.

Ugh! I would have tossed that PS1 controller straight into the trash. They are fairly common.

Is the Milon game just a port of the NES game, or is it an entirely different game?

Good question, iu will try to find it outm i did not have a chance to test it yet :)
Here is what i found on Wikkipedia:

The Game Boy version includes a password feature, but is otherwise mostly identical to the NES version. Besides that, there are other obvious differences between the Game Boy and NES versions. First, the room sizes are smaller, likely due in part to the smaller available screen size. As a result, many hidden items and platforms are not in the same absolute position, but can be found in roughly the same relative position. Second, every item costs a little less money than in the NES version. Additionally, there are slightly fewer money tiles to collect, which generally works in favor of the player. The store that gives you $10 in the NES version gives you $15 in this version. Third, the boss fights are substantially easier. You can attack the entire body of the boss, not just the head. Bosses send only one projectile out at a time, and the projectiles are much smaller. The projectiles are more focused on your current position, so they are easier to dodge. Finally, the ending has new illustrations added to it.

I came so close, but I get really hung up about wasting stuff that works. I almost didn't want the cleaning to work, just so I could justify tossing the nasty thing.

Looks pretty and new now, though :)

Cool, thanks. Guess it sounds like the NES version is the version to hold on to. I'm sure it has better looking graphics (and in color, of course), and better sound.

I bought an indie bundle like a year back for the games, but I also got a bonus DRM free copy of Postal 1.

Well it turns out that everyone who got that bundle also got a free Steam key. So now I got a Steam key for a game I already owned on GOG and DRM free. Oy.

Oh and Bioshock Infinite activates in 7 hours on Steam so I'll soon be playing my free copy of that too.

The reason my wife was so against me going to that dude's place to buy an $80 copy of Earthbound is she already had it on order.  She won't give me a whole lot of details, but says "It was listed wrong and wasn't near what Earthbound usually goes for".  The others were just bonus, but the only double is Shatterhand. Anyone need a copy?
She's probably not being entirely truthful, but it was nice and I'm tickled shitless to have Earthbound in my collection.

Picked up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Daxter, and a third copy of Croc a few days ago (Thankfully third times the charm as my first two copies didn't work or hardly worked), and ordered Medievil II + Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee today. T'is a shame they were not in stores as I could have easily saved so much money :(

I picked up a few things yesterday, all used:

Arc Rise Fantasia (Wii) $28 - I already had a copy, but it had no case or manual. A local used book store had a copy there complete.

Goldeneye 007 (Wii) $10 - Finally got around to picking this up. Loved the original on the N64. Really enjoying it so far.

NiGHTS: Journey of Dreams (Wii) $3 - This game...I don't know why but everything about this game creeps me out. Makes me incredibly uncomfortable while playing it, almost to the point of being sick. Very, very weird, and I am unsure if I will keep it.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (Wii) $10 - Another one I finally got around to picking up. Played up to the police station and it's fun while being a bit nostalgic. Probably closest thing to an RE2 remake I'll get to play.

Rygar: The Battle of Argus (Wii) $2 - Seems alright so far, though I can't get past the first large enemy. Maybe I am over looking a dodge mechanic or something. I hear it wasn't well received, but I figure for the price I could have some fun.

A few things I got last week:

Skies of Arcadia Legends (Gamecube) $57 - Complete copy off Amazon. Wasn't a huge fan when I played it before on the Dreamcast, but I didn't hate anything about it.

New Play Control Pikmin (Wii) $19 - Really liked the Pikmin game in Nintendo Land and had no problem finding a copy of Pikmin 2. Stopped by a Gamestop one day just to look around and they had a copy of this one. The manual is in pretty bad shape though, but maybe I'll find a replacement later on.

Baten Kaitos (Gamecube) $9 - Found this at a Play N Trade, complete. Another I wasn't a huge fan of when I played it long ago, but I figured I would give it a shot again at some point, and at this price I thought it was a steal.

And last, I ordered a few things off Amazon last night:

The Hyrule Historia and Lego Lord of the Rings.

Rygar: Battle of Argus is a straight port of an early PS2 game. The only difference is the game case, they changed the name, and they emo-fied the main character. It uses the same graphics even (except for the main characters changes, of course).

It was a fantastic game when it came out in 2002 (maybe 2003?). But to re-release the same exact game under a different title and a new character is just shady. I got duped into buying it because I thought it was a new Rygar game, and was pissed. I'm sure I'm not the only one. So I'm sure that has a lot to do with the hate the game receives.

I personally really enjoyed Baten Kaitos when I first played it.  I picked up the sequel/prequel also when I noticed the prices going up.  I guess I enjoyed the change of battle scenery with the card battles instead of "select 'fight' to fight" M.O.

007: Everything or Nothing
Eighteen Wheeler
From Russia With Love
GoldenEye: Rogue Agent

$10 total (2 for $5.) I left behind four other games (A Need For Speed game, Burnout 2, 007 Nightfire, and 007 Agent Under Fire.) I already have those two extra 007 games on other formats.

Nothing even close to special (or anything that I'd even want).

I recently found two games I was looking for for a while.

For about a year, I have been looking for the original Sonic the Hedgehog on game gear. It is not a rare game. I can find it all day long. However, never at a price I want to pay. Vintage stock sells it for $8. *vomit* That is a $1 game. Basically, all game gear games are $1 games. But I finally found a bundle with Sonic, Fantasy Zone, and Pac-man for $10. Ultimately, I overpaid. But the Fantasy Zone purchase made it something I'm happy to have.

I also found Buffy: Chaos Bleeds in the wild. Bought it for $10. Twice what I like to pay for an XBox game. But it is a game I want and I will pay a bit of a premium for a find in the wild for some titles.

Picked up Star Force and Lightening Force today for $15. A couple old-school shoot-em ups.

I've always wanted Star Force because I've always loved the Star Soldier games, and Star Force is pretty much a very basic prototype for Star Soldier on NES.

And to clarify, no, I didn't misspell "Lightening Force". That's how they spell it. It's only known by that name in the U.S. Everywhere else it's "Thunder Force IV".

(Edit by Foxhack: No hotlinking MobyGames stuff plz.)

Four copies? :p

Six, actually  8)

One's "mine" while (as every other LE in this series quickly becomes rare & valuable), the other 5 are "investment" and/or (potentially) "gift" copies.

1).  It's been out < a week,

2).  I could *already* throw them on Amazon, beat the best price by $20...and still better than double what I paid for them  ;)

What can I say?

NISA LE's (and NISA, as a whole) have always been *really* good to me  ;D

Just received my PS3/Bleach game in today's mail (paid for *entirely* w/ accumulated store-credits I had from the NISA on-line store:)

Yeah, Insektmute - NISA's been nothing but awesome to me (I have "my own" (as in we know each other by name, recognize each other's voices, and I deal only with her) customer-service Rep) at the NIS America CA offices  :o

Once, after sending me the wrong Giclee, not only did they:

A.  Apologize,

B.  Quickly refund me all costs associated w/ returning the item to them,

C.  *NEXT DAY AIR* me the correct Giclee...but...on top of all of that ,

D.  She knocked 1/3 (~$100) off of the price  8)

So, yeah - I've got nothing but love for that company  ;D

YMMV, of course!

Its looking that way isn't it. I'm probably the reason Epic games removed the proxy mines from the weapon lineup, featured in Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition exclusively. Just kindly let me know when I overwhelm you guys with new entries. The ratio of wish listed to games I have are 3 to 1. At least 10% of them are likely other region titles you didn't think exist, like Ben Hur: Blood of Braves on PS2. Far superior chariot racer with real time weather effects.

Looks like my prized game purchase of the month is going to end up in April's thread, so I'll go ahead and post what I found today:

GB
Aerosatar
Final Fantasy Adventure

GBA
Gradius Galaxies
Phalanx (Just played this for an hour. It's a solid port + has some cool features not seen in the SNES version.)

GEN (All have boxes, some have manuals)
Bonanza Brothers
Robocop Versus the Terminator
Batman Forever
Hard Drivin'
The Lion King
Mortal Kombat 3

Xbox
Halo
Otogi
Otogi II

Guides
Shining Force NEO (PS2)
Panzar Dragoon Orta (Xbox)

You might see some random Genesis games filter in April. A few weeks ago I was hooked up with ~ 40 Genesis boxes. I picked out the best looking ones, filtered out what I don't need, and am in the process of filling them up :)

My jaw hit the floor when I saw it at Best Buy last weekend.  Haven't played it yet but for 5 bucks it should be worth a try.  Now I need to try and find the first.

This ranks right up there with my $30.00 purchase on a brand new PS3 system, courtesy of a scanning error.

Pretty cool, but make sure to test that Mortal Kombat Gold disc right away. Some early pressings will freeze upon booting. (Since there is no manual I can't verify that it's a good version or not.)

HOT! NEW!

The MK should be good. Those original disks don't survive long. They are really hard to find. But if it does not boot that may be the case.

I'm logged in and can't see them either.

You'll have to download the images (save to your computer), then reupload them somewhere.

Could always do what I do - pop them on Google+ and use that as a place to store images and crap. Just right-click and copy the link on each image you want to show, then post on here with the img tag.

I got these in the mail today. I broke down and couldn't resist it cause the GB was a great deal. Plus it finished off my collection of GB systems, giving me one of each model.

I actually wasn't planning on buying anything this weekend and just working on accessories and the actual setup, but when buying the 2nd model saturn controllers and steering wheel from Thrillhouse Games, I noticed he had Phantasy Star 2 for something like 6 bucks. Obviously couldn't resist.

Then I decided to check a Game X Change I usually don't go to, they had the Midway classics vol 1 for xbox with the cover that matches vol 2 and 3. I had never seen that before so easily paid 5 bucks. They also had some game gear games I was looking for at a few bucks each. X-Men mojo world (fairly rare), Star Trek: Holodeck, and Halley Wars (surprisingly good shmup).

Not my actual copy, but it is this cover:

That variant was released when they released volumes 2 and 3 of the series so it would match up. I think it's functionally identical to the original print. Nice find.

Haha, I'm glad you guys can also appreciate this!  It took over 2 hours of standing in several lines, and it was already 30 min past closing time by the time I got up to the signing table.  Tim was great about talking to people who were still waiting to get to the signing table and letting people take pics with him.

After it was all done, I opened up the book in the car and looked at the game and said, "that was so worth the wait!"
