The ole PlayStation. I wasn’t a Sony guy back in the day. We never had one in our house, but my teenage buddy turned hetero-lifemate (we’re still super-tight) had one. We were huge into In the Zone and NBA Live. We played a little Twisted Metal and Tekken. It wasn’t my console of choice. Honestly, it still doesn’t do much for me.
When PS2 came around, I was a broke ass college student. A different friend found one. This thing was pretty cool. It played DVDs! It had some killer games. I was lowkey jealous of a few of the releases. I was an Xbox guy anyway. We eventually got GTA3 and Vice City.  Eff Sony.

I had my big boy job when PS3 hit. I tried the buy one the night it launched, just to flip it. No dice. I wanted the XBox 360 anyway. I got one of those. About 2 years later I bought one for $5 at a yard sale. It wouldn’t come on so they were selling it as broken. It had been pulled off and hit the floor. I reseated the bed and did a hard reset. She fired right up. I still have it. There were some cool games on this thing. I loved Dragon’s Crown and all the Sony collections that helped me catch up on things like God of War, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper. I’m not mad at this console at all.

This was about 2014. There was a glitch on Amazon. It showed a PS4 for $89. I figured it would be cancelled, and I knew Walmart price matched Amazon. So, I took my phone and matched into the Walmart electronics department. I came home with a PS4. I’ve played a lot of it. I’m in the PlayStation world now. GTA 5, Spider-Man, and the Greatest Game of All-Time, Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m for it. It was the console this generation.

Now, I’m about a month deep into the PS5. I waited and got the Pro. Games are what matter and there’s not a ton for me so far. Spider-Man 2 is all I’ve made it to. I have Avatar and I’m wanting Indiana Jones and of course, GTA 6.

I didn’t have a past with Sony, but here we are. I’m a PlayStation fan. They won me over, and it was a long fight.

General / Re: FPS, RPG, SIM ... where are you "at home"?
« on: December 02, 2024, 07:48:30 pm »
Platformers are my bread and butter. It’s like momma’s biscuits and gravy. I don’t get more at home than a Mario game. I prefer 2D, because I’m old;  it I’m not too shabby at all 3D platformer.

Second is probably arcade-style Beat ‘em Ups. TMNT Arcade, Streets of Rage, Alien vs Predator, The Simpsons; you get the picture. They have so much replayability. Even newer ones like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredders Revenge are great.

This was hard. Sports games and Wrestling games are really fun too. I’m sure my answer to this would change like the wind.

I love these compilation packs. I missed a ton of games as time has passed. This is a cool way for me to grab them all at once.

Now, I’ll probably not play a trilogy of Xbox 360 games back to back to back, but it’s cool to buy them.  I love a good compilation.

Been cruising around the site a lot for the last couple of days.
Thank y’all for keeping it going.

I necrothreaded a bunch of old posts I'd never commented on before a couple months ago in a attempt to stir up some conversation. This site is feeling more and more lonely with each passing year...

It does.
Facebook groups and things like that add to the inactivity on the site.

Do we have a Facebook group?

Not a legit post to put in the Auction Watch section, because it isn't anything special. However, the seller does not seem to be making a joke here because they have other items for sale with bad pictures, but this one is just too funny to not share.

That’s marketing!

I love that some of these old threads are getting necroed. It’s like a time capsule.
I’ll give this one a crack.

1) Super Mario Bros. - It got me loving games

2) Ms. Pac-Man - It’s approachable and cute, but it’s difficult to master.

3) Madden (Newest year) - If you’ve never played games and are remotely into sports, Madden will blow your mind.

4) Tetris  - This is a game anyone can love. It’s hard not to kinda enjoy Tetris. Its simplicity is perfect.

5) Red Dead Redemption II - Simply the greatest game ever created. It’s huge. There’s so much to do. And the story will get you in the feels.

6) Marvel Snap - It’s a free and addictive deck building game.  I play it on my phone. It’s approachable and has tons of familiar characters

7) Portal 2 - Low stakes. Laid back. Good humor. Just a fun game.

8) Rock Band - Even folks that don’t play games love rhythm games. Plus, you get to feel like a rockstar!

9) Stardew Valley - Relaxed. No Stress. Simple. It’s like animal crossing, but better.

10) Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past - It’s an awesome adventure everyone can love. It’s my favorite Zelda game.

Classic Video Games / Re: The Best Retro Game Music - 8bit and above

I’ve said it for years. Folks are sleeping on the Rygar soundtrack. It’s old. It’s 8-bit. But it’s full of bangers. I think the second part is called Gran Mountain

Are we doing favorite game or favorite thing in the collection?
A good example would be L:

Favorite game is Link to the Past
Favorite Collection piece is Little Samson

I was a huge RetrowareTV fan back in the day. I found a lot of my favorite YouTubers there.
I still watch The GameChasers.
Way back when I had the chance to meet several of those guys. Hung out and even got to be friendly with some of them. Had a bunch of them on our podcast, Our Parents Basement.

I stuck my toe in that old youtube world. Never had much success, but I had a blast doing it. Made some pretty good friends that I still talk to.

I miss that old YouTube. It was a cool, Wild west feel. Everyone was still learning about retro games. Now, there’s tons of experts. A lot of guys have legit production now. I liked the raw feel better (that’s what she said)

Sony's presentation today revealed the PlayStation 5 Pro at the low, affordable price of $699.99 USD. If you want the capability to play discs, you'll have to pay an extra $79.99 for a detachable disc drive.

I’ve been holding out buying a ps5 for the pro version.
I need someone to explain to me like a child, why I should get the pro and not the slim.

Batman has had some good showings.
Batman and Robin on the SNES and Genesis are great
Batman Returns on the SNES is fantastic
The Arkham games are top notch
The NES Batman has always been one of my favorites.

Now Spider-Man, he had some stinkers then he came on strong
The N64 Spider-Man is great. I’m assuming the ps1 and Dreamcast games are the same.
The spider-man movie games, especially Spider-Man 2 on the GameCube, do a great job of giving you that feeling of swinging through the city.
Then, the Sony made some Spider-Man games. Holy Cow!  These games are some of my favorites ever.

I’m going to give Spider-Man the win just out of personal preference. If you pick Batman, you’re not wrong.
