This is something fairly gaming adjacent to me, but one thing I'm so sick of is how fake and contrived so much of the internet is today. Compared to even 5 or 6 years ago, it's so hard to find genuine gaming content or discussion. Everything is either sponsored, an ad, clickbait, hot takes, rage bait, AI generated, or bots. I know there are still some genuine people and places to discuss gaming (this site is one of them), but it's getting discouraging on pretty much all mainstream sites like Reddit, Facebook, and Youtube. I hate how I have to second guess if I'm interacting with a bot now, and even if I'm not, so many people just talk and act the same way online now. It's awful. And then when it comes to finding new youtube videos, Youtube will recommend to me the same ultra clickbaity, contrived sponsored video essay 3 times before it actually recommends me some newer video from a smaller youtuber who genuinely just wants to talk about his favorite Resident Evil or SHMUP games. Again, I can still find this stuff, but it's getting more and more rare and difficult.

I know this stuff is happening more and more, but part of me also feels like maybe I'm just outgrowing the social aspect of the internet. I do genuinely like to discuss gaming with people online and in person, but maybe I just have a lower tolerance for people parroting the same opinions or saying some stupid BS just to drum up outrage, and therefore engagement.

I miss the old and also the not so old internet so badly. I know it wasn't perfect and was filled with its own problems, trolls, bad actors, and other unsavory characters, but at least it felt mostly genuine and authentic. Everything online just feels so fake now. I'm so grateful that small forums like this still exist even though they've become an endangered species thanks to social media.

I agree with you 100%.
I don’t think it’s you outgrowing the internet. I think it’s all the bullshit has made it so unsavory that we crave real people.  We just want something that is real and not just generated for clicks. Social media made people curate their online appearance just so they could get some likes. Your friends weren’t sharing their real life with you, and you weren’t with them.

It’s rough when the “realest” thing on the internet is porn.

I'm thinking of expanding into some other portable offerings before getting a Switch 2 for now. Either a vita, Playstation Portal, or going big and getting a Steam Deck.

I love my Steam Deck and use it way more than I thought I would.  I think it ended up being my second most used console last year.

I play the heck out of my Steam Deck.  Cheap games and being portable?  You betcha.

What branch of the military did General Entertainment serve?

Off Topic / Re: How do you deal with getting older?
« on: August 01, 2025, 05:58:13 pm »
Let’s be real. Getting old sucks. It’s harder to be fit. You can’t pee as far. Sometimes you wake up and just feel like you’ve been in a car crash because you slept wrong.

Just because your body gets older doesn’t mean you have to be old. Stay active. Dress like a relevant person. (Don’t be a try-hard old guy, but buy you some new clothes). Still play games. Still watch movies. Don’t get caught up in what’s comfortable. Keep trying. Have fun.

So, did any of us get one?

I got one.
It’s good. It’s more of an upgrade on a switch than anything that’s going to blow your hair back.
Now, the only game I have is Mario Kart. It’s super-fun. It’s more of the same Mario Kart, but that’s not a bad thing.

Just an update…

I finished Astrobot. That is one of my favorite games ever.
I did everything there was to do in the game. 100% complete. And that’s not like me.

That was my first ever platinum trophy on psn.

If you have a PS5, play Astrobot.

Did anyone try for a Switch 2?  Anyone hit?
I got a preorder at Walmart. Hope they come through.

I didn't even try. I'm definitely going to have a wait and see attitude of how things go with it. The news that most third party games will be key card games and not game on card has me on the fence about getting one at all.

But really, who buys Nintendo consoles for 3rd party games?

I know this is an unpopular opinion, but here it goes.

Modern games are moving toward all digital. If I want to play new games, I’ve got to move with the industry. It’s not ideal, but I like playing new games.
The only way to keep the games you buy is to stick to pc gaming. Steam is the only platform that hasn’t changed.

So, I fired the PS5 again after a big break. I just couldn’t find time.
Well, I started in on Astro Bot. Holy shit!  If you haven’t played this game, you’re doing yourself a disservice. It’s the best Mario game that isn’t Mario. This is some 3D platforming goodness. Another thing that I didn’t know I needed, this game is freakin adorable!
I’m having such a good time finding every bot and every puzzle piece.
If you haven’t played a PS5, get Astro Bot. It’s a good one.

Long time since ive posted. I see the website has been having issues. I am glad this site is still around since It is the only site i use to track my collection

Anyway, collection is going well. 1.5 years ago we moved from CA to Northern NV and bought a house. I let my wife pick a house she liked as long as it, 1. had a big yard so we could get big dogs (aka german shepherds) and 2. an extra room so I can have my gaming room (she did work from home at the time, so it was also her office).  Since we moved everything, she did not like my wire racks set up because it was "ugly" and bought all new shelving units for the consoles, which made things harder for cable management since wire racks made it simple lol. the bookshelves i built from a youtube video that i keep all my games on remain and will soon need to build a 3rd one since my other 2 are full, I just need to figure out where to put it since we need to rearrange things to make it fit.

Missed you guys, now that I am  finished school, took my licensed exam and now a fully licensed vet tech, I have more free time to post!

Dude! So glad to see you back!

The ole PlayStation. I wasn’t a Sony guy back in the day. We never had one in our house, but my teenage buddy turned hetero-lifemate (we’re still super-tight) had one. We were huge into In the Zone and NBA Live. We played a little Twisted Metal and Tekken. It wasn’t my console of choice. Honestly, it still doesn’t do much for me.
When PS2 came around, I was a broke ass college student. A different friend found one. This thing was pretty cool. It played DVDs! It had some killer games. I was lowkey jealous of a few of the releases. I was an Xbox guy anyway. We eventually got GTA3 and Vice City.  Eff Sony.

I had my big boy job when PS3 hit. I tried the buy one the night it launched, just to flip it. No dice. I wanted the XBox 360 anyway. I got one of those. About 2 years later I bought one for $5 at a yard sale. It wouldn’t come on so they were selling it as broken. It had been pulled off and hit the floor. I reseated the bed and did a hard reset. She fired right up. I still have it. There were some cool games on this thing. I loved Dragon’s Crown and all the Sony collections that helped me catch up on things like God of War, Jak and Daxter, and Sly Cooper. I’m not mad at this console at all.

This was about 2014. There was a glitch on Amazon. It showed a PS4 for $89. I figured it would be cancelled, and I knew Walmart price matched Amazon. So, I took my phone and matched into the Walmart electronics department. I came home with a PS4. I’ve played a lot of it. I’m in the PlayStation world now. GTA 5, Spider-Man, and the Greatest Game of All-Time, Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m for it. It was the console this generation.

Now, I’m about a month deep into the PS5. I waited and got the Pro. Games are what matter and there’s not a ton for me so far. Spider-Man 2 is all I’ve made it to. I have Avatar and I’m wanting Indiana Jones and of course, GTA 6.

I didn’t have a past with Sony, but here we are. I’m a PlayStation fan. They won me over, and it was a long fight.

General / Re: FPS, RPG, SIM ... where are you "at home"?
« on: December 02, 2024, 07:48:30 pm »
Platformers are my bread and butter. It’s like momma’s biscuits and gravy. I don’t get more at home than a Mario game. I prefer 2D, because I’m old;  it I’m not too shabby at all 3D platformer.

Second is probably arcade-style Beat ‘em Ups. TMNT Arcade, Streets of Rage, Alien vs Predator, The Simpsons; you get the picture. They have so much replayability. Even newer ones like Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredders Revenge are great.

This was hard. Sports games and Wrestling games are really fun too. I’m sure my answer to this would change like the wind.

I love these compilation packs. I missed a ton of games as time has passed. This is a cool way for me to grab them all at once.

Now, I’ll probably not play a trilogy of Xbox 360 games back to back to back, but it’s cool to buy them.  I love a good compilation.
