Site Feedback / Extra Option requested for "Release Type"
« on: December 14, 2022, 04:38:43 pm »
Hi,

I wanted to suggest (and request) an extra option for when adding a new game to the database. When selecting a "release type", would it be possible to add an extra option for games that are listed as "Early Access"? In many cases a game can stay in early access for years. Once it has been upgraded to a full, official release, then it & the date could be changed.

I somehow missed a game & accidentally created a duplicate entry. It didn't pop up as being in the database already. It wasn't until after I created the entry, that I saw it on the "also on" section.

Steam (Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation)

Classic Video Games / Re: Why are the NES era Consoles 3rd Gen and not 4th?
« on: November 24, 2022, 09:59:56 am »
Something to chew on:

The Atari 2600 is a 2nd generation console. The Atari 5200 is it's successor making it a 3rd generation console.

That would mean the Atari 7800 and it's contemporaries (NES/Master System) are 4th generation consoles...so who decided they were 3rd generation consoles?!

We would just like to forget that the Atari 5200 ever was a thing. Erased from history. (Just joking)

While the Atari 5200 wasn't the best system, one of the things that stood out was that it was one of the first systems that I remember that allowed you to pause the game. I had never seen that before. While I'm not super nostalgic about the Atari systems (except maybe the awesome artwork on the game boxes), I preferred the 2600 simply because of its much larger library. Many of the games for the 5200 were slightly better graphical upgrades to already existing titles that were on the 2600.

My favorite of the 2600 games were:
- Fast Food
- Squeeze Box
- Entombed
- Gopher
- No Escape
- Cosmic Creeps
- Moon Patrol
- Missile Command
- Cosmic Ark
- Pitfall

Video Game Database Discussion / Steam Deck Dock
« on: October 27, 2022, 10:54:12 am »
Hi,

I've just placed an order for the Steam Deck Dock or Docking Station (made by Valve).

If I were to have this entered into the database (assuming it hasn't already), where should it be listed? Would this go under Hardware & then Accessory? or would it go under PC & then under Accessory?

I mentioned in another thread that I have only recently stumbled into PC gaming. While I did play a few here & there years back Here are few that I absolutely love & others that I have gotten that I haven't gotten around to playing yet:

Older PC games I've played & enjoyed:
1. The 7th Guest
2. The Sims ---> creating sims & killing them off in a fiery "accident" was always fun. Then I'd place a tombstone outside the house & move another family in.
3. Allied General
4. Command & Conquer
5. Command & Conquer: Red Alert

Older PC games I am looking forward to playing:
1. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
2. Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun
3. Dune 2000
4. Emperor: Battle for Dune
5. Quake III: Arena
6. Unreal Tournament GOTY Edition
7. Red Faction

Most of these had a console release & I've played on that. I kind of wish that wish some of the FPS from the late 90's & early 2000's allowed you to play using a controller. Using a mouse to look & using the left analog stick on my controller, is a bit much. I wish I could take the older games & add full controller functionality.

Console wise, there are way too many for me to list. The majority of my favorites would be on the NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, PS1, & PS2.

Site Feedback / Re: Adding Origin to the PC Database
« on: August 25, 2022, 05:17:10 pm »
It is not ideal to add a category for Origin or for any of the other platforms since it will (in essense) allow us to create dupes. A different way of leveraging the existing PC Digital Downloads category (the ability to search/sort/view by platform type) is preferred.

At this point we will not be making new categories for digital PC games, you'll have to be using the description field on the entries.

There has been some design work on how to properly implement all of the different PC download sources, so it is not something we are ignoring.

Thanks for the reply.

If you don't ask, you'll never know.

Site Feedback / Adding Origin to the PC Database
« on: August 25, 2022, 12:09:16 am »
Hi,

So I have started delving into PC gaming & while I had a small amount of titles on Steam (before recently buying up several titles in the last month), I started exploring other PC gaming sites. I just started in with Galaxy of Games (GOG.com). Being that I have played games on consoles for sooooo many years since the days of the Atari 2600, I feel like I have missed out on what PC games have to offer. Now that I've started messing with PC games, now I have an even bigger backlog of games that I have to play. I still have many physical PS1, PS2, & PS4 titles that I haven't played. That's not counting the many PSN digital games. Now I have to add Steam & GOG to that list as well. So many games & so little time to play them all.

I also have stumbled onto Origin. Is it possible to get Origin added as a category under the PC games section?

While I have bought a few titles on Steam (like The Sims 4, Need For Speed: Most Wanted, & Burnout Paradise Remastered) that require you to start an Origin account, there are some titles on there that Steam or GOG doesn't feature. One of which is Command & Conquer Ultimate Collection (which features all 17 Command & Conquer titles). On Steam, I bought Command & Conquer: Remastered Collection, but it doesn't have the other games in the series such as Red Alert 2, Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge, Generals, Renegade, Etc. The only way to play those digitally is to get it from Origin.

I still actively use this site to track my gaming collection. I don't use the forum often, but the collection list is what I use it for mostly.

Site Feedback / Issue with Adding New Games
« on: May 30, 2022, 10:40:18 am »
Hi,

Earlier I was attempting to add a new game to the PS4 (NA) section, but after I entered everything in, it just produced a blank list of N/A's. I thought maybe that my login had timed out, so I logged back in again just to make sure, we to reenter the item & still got the same result. Am I doing something wrong?

General / Re: What are your opinions on the Lego games?
« on: May 17, 2022, 11:37:52 am »
There's way too many Lego games out there.

I've played a few of them such as Lego Star Wars Trilogy, Lego Indiana Jones, & Lego Worlds.

Of the three, I liked Lego Worlds the best. Mostly because it was an original concept, not riding the coattails of previous movies. Lego City Undercover looks okay too. I own it, but haven't gotten around to playing it yet. (Maybe one day I will.)
