I generally don't pre-order games because it's really not difficult (at least here) to just go out and get the game day 1 if I wanted to. There has never been a case where I've been unable to get a game because I didn't pre-order. However, I did pre-order New Super Luigi U from Amazon because I'm getting it for my fiancee's birthday and I want it delivered here so it can be a surprise.

How'd you get the deals...?  I ordered SMTIV from Newegg when they were having 10 or 15% off, but that's as low as I saw.

I didn't use to preorder and I only do so now if they're having preorder-only bonuses that I want.  There have been too many times I've kicked myself for not checking whether a game I know I'll eventually buy had preorders when it launched.

Examples:
- Junpei's hat for Persona's re-release
- 999 watch

Other examples of things I preordered but definitely would've kicked myself over had I not:
- Ni No Kuni wizard edition
- Zero Escape watch(es)

During E3 Future Shop's online store in Canada had deals where you got 33% off all the games in your order if you pre-ordered more than 3. I always wait around for these deals.

You can get by w/o the guide (everything will be on the Internet soon enough); I just got it because:

a).  I like collecting guides,

b).  I like ALL-things 'Disgaea', and

c).  This will definitely be the 1st (and possibly the only) hardcover Disgaea strategy guide.
