Never heard of this game till now, but Abiotic Factor is a pretty cool game, it's a bit of a throwback to the 90's FPS games, specifically Half-Life, but it's more like, what if Half-Life 1 was a survival crafting game.  Visually it's got that lower poly/lower resolution textures, but not enough to be distracting like you are just playing an old game, and you basically are running around this huge, locked down, underground facility, gathering supplies to craft gear, tools, building up a place to use like a base, as you try to figure out how to progress further into the facility, dealing with alien or possibly multi-dimensional threats.  It's kinda funny to see that this is apparently an Unreal Engine 5 game, but it's very much trying to feel like an old Source engine game, as it gives off Voices of the Void vibes to me also.

Super engaging type of game for me and for those with other people that might be interested, you can play with up to like 6 other people too which is pretty cool.

Amid the large amounts of Abiotic Factor I played some of the demo/network test for Sonic Crossworlds and it's okay.  It seems better than the Team Sonic Racing game that I thought looked kinda middling, but it also didn't bring back the vibes of Sonic All Stars Racing Transformed for me.  Didn't find anything outright bad, though I felt like the bumping players and losing rings constantly was kinda annoying, felt off, though I haven't played a kart racer in awhile.  Not really sure about the game, I might just wait on a sale for it as I was kinda hoping I'd be into it more, but who knows, maybe I'll just wait on a sale.

Started playing a little Dune Awakening since it's got a free weekend.  Had abit of interest in it back when it first came out, but wasn't gonna jump into it right away, especially since I felt they needed to update the game (Some of its endgame content was PVP focused, which was an odd choice for a game that could be played mostly PVE until that point), and I know they were planning to, but I won't get that far over the few days of content.  It's alright so far, just starting out, not sure if I'll actually continue on to much, I did just get done with a survival/crafting game and kinda need to play something less serious like that I feel.

Tetris [DE] (GameBoy)
https://vgcollect.com/item/277791

These days I find myself fleeing into a short-lived session of the good ol' when I get too bored with grinding in Grandia (PlayStation), and even without expecting it and slowly dying battery Energy, I managed to raise my highscore again just yesterday:

127.531 points in standard mode (small rocket)

It's amazing how this particular game can challenge and addict over and over again during a whole lifetime  :o

C'mon, get that old must-have off your shelf and slam it into one of your 83 GameBoy iterations!

Delving into a couple demos I have...

Eclipsium - Had to stop with this one, it's got maybe the most aggressive pixelation filter I've ever experienced in a game, it creates really blurry visuals at a distance and it's so intense.  I'm not super sure what sorta game it is, maybe puzzle, but the short bit I did in the demo, it was mostly a walking sim.  It's kinda creepy, walking through a cave, forced to stare at some giant woman just glaring, supposed to some sort of mindscrew game I guess, but I'm gonna pass on this entirely due to the pixel filter.

Ferocious - It's a dinosaur survival shooter, kinda King Kong Skull Island-esque with giant bugs in it, very low level survival crafting system, lots of awful animations and and UI stuff, though it is a demo.  Didn't get very far, nearly killed myself falling through a log that looked like I could go on it and figured that was enough, so never saw the dinos.  Melee combat was awful, where you can build a spear, but instead of using as it a spear that you poke with to keep yourself out of range of creature attacks, you do a swipe for some reason and just take a bunch of damage instead lol It sorta felt like a barebones version of Green Hell with dinosaurs and guns.  Maybe it can be something down the road, demo just wasn't anything, feels like it needs a complete overhaul by that point.

Cleared Hot - Finally found one that was fun lol This is a throwback to the old Desert Strike and Jungle Strike chopper games from the 90's, I use to love those games, and this has that spirit.  They do it in a much more modern way, involving a lot more physics based fun, so movement is really smooth, your winch you use to use for grabbing ammo and fuel is now made for not only grabbing ammo, but picking up most objects to throw them, so find a barrel? Throw it at guys to explode them.  Soldiers annoying you? Grab them and throw them, they even introduce some newer gameplay elements dodging jet strafe attacks.  This has great potential, I'll probably pick it up as it's supposed to release this year sometime.

I actually considered trying out Tetris for Game Boy, but it turns out that, after many years of neglect, neither my two Game Boy Colors nor Game Boy Advance work anymore and are in need of repair.

That's sad ... I personally also enjoy playing this title on Super Game Boy, maybe that's an option?

Well, I don't own a Super Nintendo nor a Super Game Boy, so I don't have a means to play the game now beyond emulation which is less than ideal. Maybe someone else out there will rise to your challenge.

I hope so. Thought this simple yet timeless classic would be ideal - and probably common enough within VGCs collector army - to start a little friendly highscore hunt  8)
And considering the number of retro games collectors on this board, I suggest that I'm not the only one still into beating good ol' highscores.

Maybe I'll dedicate a thread to this issue next year or so...

Dying Light: The Beast - Wasn't planning to get this right away as while I loved the first game, DL2 was kinda middling for me, but I kept hearing that this game leans abit more towards the first game than the second and so far I can see that after a couple hours.  Something about this early area, interactions, some of the combat, parkour, tone, it feels like it hits better than DL2 did, or perhaps just in general they just got to properly polish it as DL2 had a rough launch and post-release dev cycle.

I wouldn't say it's on par with DL1 or anything yet, but I'm enjoying it and it's also running incredibly well which is becoming such an achievement lately lol

It's been a long time since I last wrote.

So I finished two games and a drop.

Cronos: The New Dawn
Good level design, gameplay, and atmosphere (better than the new SH!)
It's a bit like Dead Space, but be careful because the game is a bit hard; it can quickly become frustrating. (There's no choice for difficulty, only when you finish the game on NG+.)

There's a problem with the RNG, sometimes mobs (the most powerful ones) or crates don't give anything. You have to be very careful with your ammo.
Another thing that's quite frustrating is the inventory, which is never big enough, even when you upgrade it. You end up having to throw away or ignore items.

I'd add that a map would have been needed because some levels are large (the second one) and can be difficult to navigate. It's also good to check if you haven't forgotten a collectible.
I don't really like the main character's voice. As for the story, I don't think it's worth a NG+.

Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter

I wasn't expecting anything from it and was pleasantly surprised. I knew it by name but never wanted to get into it because of the turn-based nature.
The remake mixes fast-paced combat with turn-based combat, and it does it well, even if you'll always choose the TB because it's more advantageous.
The gameplay is dynamic; what's good is that you can choose your character placement. You can therefore avoid certain attacks, whereas in a basic TB, it's down to RNG/luck.

The music is nice, but nothing outstanding.
I know it's the same developers, but the structure of the game reminds me of YS (map, NPCs, etc.).
I liked the cast, all the characters are cool and funny in their own way. The dialogues are fun (the passage through the castle or the theater scene), and I really liked the change in dialogue for some NPCs.
The game can be quite complicated even on normal, I had to restart several times against some pretty annoying bosses (like a penguin, lol).
I can't wait for the sequel !

Now, Silent Hill F

It was a total disappointment, which is a shame because I was curious about the transposition of a SH game into a Japanese universe.
The game's name is only Silent Hill, but otherwise it's nothing like that.
The gameplay is horrible, I ended up dropping the game because of it.
It's stiff, sometimes your weapons hit the wall (making them bounce) while you're aiming at enemies. Enemies can chain you, which gets annoying.
The SH2R game was criticized for that, while it's much better and less rigid than this SH.
It's a huge regression.

The game plays like Souls, which is absurd. You have to pay attention to your stamina/sanity, which becomes very restrictive (especially stamina).
The bosses are terrible and are HP sponge even on the lowest difficulty.

It's possible to dodge enemies, but most of the time, the game forces you to kill enemies especially in the final part.
Enemies can also respawn, which is very annoying for exploration or solving puzzles.
The music is subdued, even absent. I like the main theme, though.

I hated the other world.
It's already too "smooth" as a place, but what's more, it's a constant torture. It's long, boring, repetitive, and doesn't really add much in itself.

At some point, you don't even have to think about the puzzles anymore.
(spoil) I'm thinking of the one with the circles marked with a symbol or the doors to go through with only enemies to defeat.
The level design is pathetic.

Not to mention the haphazardly placed altars.
You'll have two not very far away (like 500 meters) and for 15 or 20 minutes, there won't be any altars, so there's no way to save.
There are some oppressive moments but nothing is scary, it's not at the level of SH2R which was really scary at times.

That's quite the exaggeration. However, I do think that Silent Hill f now exists as the most divisive entry to date within the series.

I've been swapping back and forth between Animal Crossing Wild World and New Horizons, along with Super Mario Advance 4 for the GBA :D

My interest in vaguely interactive, rogue-like, action games has lead to me picking up Megabonk, a 3D low poly Vampire Survivors type game.  It's much the same to that game in its execution, though it has a fun gimmick of you being able to play through three tiers of a level eventually, each tier harder than the last, with there being an extra challenging final boss to beat and the difficulty can get pretty high depending on your build compared to something like Vampire Survivors which is overall quite easy.  It has some slightly unique additions, but functionally very similar and I can find these games simple, but addictive.  Questioning it's content a little bit right now, as there are only two maps I can see, plenty of characters and items, but unless beating Tier 3 of either the forest or desert map shows new maps, that could hurt replayability, but we'll see, I still haven't been able to beat Tier 3 in either level.

And Slime Rancher 2 is at 1.0, so back into it! I picked it up in Early Access at the beginning of the year, something I don't do as much these days, but I did it as more of a pre-order to support the team as I enjoyed the first game and the second is more of the same, just a cozy game gathering up cute slimes, so I knew what I was getting into with this one.
