No streaming has not made anything obsolete. music, movies, or games. you forget that those streaming sites only have access to certain things and not 100% of everything that has ever released. on top of that they also only have access to what they have for limited time frames. music movies and games all can be added or removed from streaming at will making it impossible for you as a consumer to watch, play, or listen to your perfered form of media.

but you know what media can never be removed from your ability to consume it? physical releases of it. once you buy it, it is yours to do with as you please (aside from selling or giving away copies you have made).

That's anger issues right there...

Modern Video Games / Re: How much longer do you think the 3DS has?

it has been on its death bed for a while now but saying that its still profitable to make and still has a semi decent market that can easily make it one of the console outliers like ps2 being produced up until the ps4 was announced. interestingly enough according to vgchartz it still globally sells between 40k and 50k new systems a week which is still a few million a year and 300k to 500k new physical games a week.

I can easily see it continue for the next 2+ years.

EDIT: this post used to say more but ethically speaking im uncomfortable posting about others private lives...

Dark Souls is a good one to chip away; great game.

I'd have to agree!  It's been kicking my ass, but it has been a great game so far.  Just finished up Sen's Fortress last week.
Sen's Fortress is a fun one. Is that before or after Blighttown?

Right after. Blighttown was... well let’s just say it took me a while to finish ;D
That place is a slog, but it's cool. I really enjoyed my first time through because the atmosphere was great.

Later trips were...unpleasant.

yeah my only complaint with it on original consoles was that the fps would dip enough to cause me issues when I decided to actually fight instead of running past every thing.

That said, if you want to make sense of the story, you better have played all of the stuff in the recent remasters, because basically everything short of maybe the mobile games and maybe Coded are important to the plot.  I only played KH1 and KH2 and then watched some retrospectives on Chain of Memories and 358/2, but I needed to watch stuff on at least Birth by Sleep and Dream Drop Distance, especially Birth by Sleep, which I should've played.  I think if people are just there for the silly Disney stuff, you'll probably at least get a kick out of that, but Kingdom Hearts story can be rough and this is a game for the die hard fans for sure.

lol I ran across the same issue. my wife has never played them and has only seen like 1-2 hours into kingdom hearts 1+2 so I said the dumb thing. "ill explain things as they come up" I haven't been able to explain too much of the game... its really fun though but proud mode doesn't seem as hard as I remember it being...

Off Topic / Re: Cost Of Living In Your Area And Upkeep?
« on: January 22, 2019, 01:38:21 pm »
Iowa there are LOTS of areas in Iowa that are INCREADIBLY cheap to live. I live in one of the larger cities and my rent is only $570 a month for a 2 bed, 1.5 bath, 1200 sq ft apartment. the only thing im missing is laundry in my place (its communal in the building and pay per use) and a garage to store my car (I had a carport installed in my parking spot though). the only thing that is not cheap in Iowa is land.

General / Re: Anyone Ever Had an Injury Which Kept Them from Gaming?
« on: January 18, 2019, 10:14:51 am »
Hello all!

I recently suffered an injury which immobilized all of the fingers on my left hand as well as my wrist, and since my job basically requires me the use of both hands I'll be out of commission from work for a bit, which leaves me a good amount of free time to be playing my backlog of video games. The only problem is... well I can't use my left hand at all unfortunately. I was just wondering if anyone else here has ever suffered an injury which kept them from gaming, because frankly, I game on the daily, and not being able to is going to be difficult.

Now I know, controllers exist for one handed use only and some Wii games only need the Wii remote and I have a few of those like Zack and Wiki. I guess if you know of any that only need one hand, I'd be very grateful if you could recommend some.

nows a perfect time to start using your feet! left is easiest to do anyway because most games only move with it.

around the time kingdom hearts 2 came out I ended up breaking both my wrists while skateboarding, but I really wanted to play the game so bad I actually taught myself how to us my feet to play the game. it really sucked and was frustrating at first but eventually I got it down. admittedly I have never foot handed it so I don't know if it would be easier or harder than 1 handing the controller alla HalfCoordinated (twitch speedrunner that routinely plays shooters with his only useable hand)

My local gaming store closed down and I'm really sad about it  :'( I also had like $40 in store credit too.

Though I heard rumors it had to do with Magic the Gathering changing some of their policies and that's why they had to shut down.

make sure you call them up and get your money! unless they went bankrupt they still are obligated to give it back to you. you are considered one of their creditors and they are legally required to pay back creditors. if they went through bankruptcy a court decides was of there money goes where and since you had such a low amount you will be one of the last people they will have to pay.

Decided to finish adding my collection to vgpc for value tracking...

$91,933.95

ouch... and that probably is missing a bunch of games as well. I tried to add mine in but ended up having over 100 titles that they simply did not have in their own system or had no pricing data to them. im about half way to you in terms of games but my collection is only worth ~20k from what I remember

1. Kingdom hearts 3 (ps4): this was defiantly a fun game and I loved it but I do have major issues with 2-3 worlds in particular. they JUST followed the movie and pulled the movie sceenes into the game. those were seriously the most boring thing ever and it made it worse they were at the start. set a bad taste in my mouth until the further worlds brought it back with careful crafting and good storytelling. unfortunately the hardest difficulty Proud mode was a walk in the park. half way through the game I put on zero exp just to artificially inflate the difficulty and ended up beating the game at level 28. overall I think it was a 8/10

2. The Witness (PS4): this was a complex puzzle game that took me almost a week to complete. it is well worth it to anyone who is a fan of puzzle games. story line is a little iffy but the graphics are great and open world is of interest. depending on where you go there are also things of visual interest like trees at the right location that look like the clouds are the leaves or a giant being and a small person reaching for each other at the right position. overall very enjoyable. 9/10. if you play through it and want to try the most complex puzzle do it before completing the game as it will start you from square 1 when you beat it.

3. Red Dead Redemption 2 (PS4)

4. Katamari damacy (ps2)

5. Bully (ps2)

buying so much so fast. when I was in college I had a small collection of games ~50 I was a collector back then but had no disposable income. when I finally got disposable income almost all of it went into buying all the games I had played and wanted. finally after years and a marriage I cut WAY down on the amount of games entering my collection to a fully manageable amount.
