Went to a local hole-in-the-wall game store yesterday and picked up:

Maniac Mansion (NES)
Ghosts 'n Goblins (NES)
Castlevania - Classic NES Series (GBA)
Persona 4 (PS2)
and another copy of Guilty Gear X2 #Reload (Xbox)

All were decently priced.  Not a bad little haul.  :)

Classic Video Games / Re: Another copy of Air Raid ...

I can't believe how horribly they were handling those boxes...  It made me cringe a little!

If only we'd hung onto our Atari 2600 collection, I think we had a good 100 or so games (just carts).  If I remember correctly, I think we even had Air Raid.  My dad bought most of them overseas and brought them back over to the States a few years later.  I think he ended up selling them in a garage sale at some point.   :-\

I think though, that some gamers (myself included) are just..."Completionists"...

Personally, I've been a "completionist", 100%-ed games, and did (my own challenges/playthroughs) since long before there were any kinds of trophies/achievments and/or recognition for doing so, so, I see no reason to stop (or not enjoy) doing the same kinds of things now :)

I whole-heartedly agree as I'm the same way.  I've always been a severe completionist, even before the time of achievements/trophies.  For instance, I fondly remember sinking several hundreds of hours into most of the latter Final Fantasies (VII - XII) just to get every item, weapon, complete every side-mission, etc.  It's just in my nature to 100% things.  :)

I see your point.  However, some achievements have the ability to pose new challenges within a game that people may not have otherwise undertaken.  In most cases I think one has the ability to explore and achieve more in a game due to achievements/trophies, which makes the game more enjoyable and gives the player a greater sense of accomplishment.

WOW!

I had no idea that Blue Dragon was *that* long of a game :P

It can be if you're trying to get certain achievements...  ;p

Achievements are fairly important to me, but not so much that I focus solely on getting the max gamerscore for every game.  There are a few that I've 1000G'd and even beyond (DLC), but they were games that were worth the time and effort I put into them.

Recently I logged about 350 hours into Blue Dragon, but ended up with only about half of the achievements.  I'll admit, I was a little sour about it, but I was not about to new game+ it and log another couple hundred hours into it just to get the rest of the achievements...  It was a good game, but meh.

It's also pretty telling that I've never played that Avatar game for an easy 1000G.   :P

Site Feedback / Re: Should console accessories be listed as video games?

Thanks for responding guys.  I'll continue to use notes for my duplicates, although I can see how listing duplicates might be helpful to more hardcore collectors (listing conditions/completion of each particular item).

Cheers!

I wouldn't consider myself a metalhead in the slightest, but I do love me some black metal, especially the experimental/atmospheric variety.

I'm more into electronic/experimental/noise/industrial stuff.  :)

One of the planned updates is to separate the totals for your collections into games, consoles, etc.

I'm glad the author of this thread asked this question - I was wondering the very same thing.  In fact, I considered deleting all the hardware I added to my collection in order to have a more accurate count of total games.  Glad to hear it's in the pipes.  :)

I do have a question that's of a similar nature:  Is it preferable to list two copies of a game (duplicates) in your collection if you own more than one?  Or would a note stating that you have more than one (eg. x2) suffice?  I'm sure it's up to the user what they prefer, but what method do you guys use?

I don't pre-order games very often (last one was Gears 3), but I do have two pre-ordered at the moment:

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 (360)
Gears of War: Judgment

They both come out around the same time in March.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Watermarked Images Thread
« on: October 09, 2012, 11:26:47 am »
Yikes, I'm really sorry, but I've uploaded a few images over the past day or two with watermarks (mostly from MobyGames).  I'm assuming it's a rule that uploaded images should be without watermarks?  I really should have read the forums first, huh?   :P

Edit:  I'll be sure to check GameFAQs (or other sites) in the future for non-watermarked images.

Welcome to the site! I've tossed this idea area as well. I'll add it to the suggestion box. Right now my main goal is our upcoming server move as well as checking off a few items on the to-do list. Stayed tuned!

Thanks!

OK, thank you.  :)

Site Feedback / Hello/Suggestion

Hello, I'm fairly new to this site (love it, by the way!) and have just begun listing items in my collection.

I don't know if it's been suggested before, but why not allow a bit of a blurb underneath our names (around the "badge" area) to include a small amount of information about our collections, ourselves, etc.  For instance, I'd love to include a sentence or two explaining that my collection is shared between myself and my significant other.  Those who'd like to include a website or location could find this handy as well.

Cheers!
