Picked up a PS4, Killzone, Ghosts, and I'm pretty happy with it so far. After the initial server errors passed - everything updated and has been going smoothly. Resogun is by far the best game on the console :)

True that. My favorite part of the game was there though - the summon sequence...best...idea...ever....

The first time I saw it I just sort of sat there and started smiling.

Those are some nice lists. But I'd say Persona 3: FES > Persona 3 Portable.

Yeah - that's probably true. There are sooooo many on the PS2 though :)

That's my new goal: Finding all the games with an adapter.  I'm not going to shop for it on ebay, but it will give me something to look for.  I think there are 20 or so.  I have 3, and I'll never find Punch-Out!! with one.  So, 16 fairly common games isn't too big of a goal.  It might be fun.  I might lose lose interest.  We'll have to wait and see.

Stack Up FTW!!!

I'm going to take a stab at giving you a top 5 for the systems I'm more familiar with. A few of them might not technically qualify as a true RPG experience to some, but meh...should still be fun! Some of these would require purchasing repro carts/emulation (unless you can read Japanese). I wont list anything that's impossible to find. Also, if there are remakes, etc of any - I'll match the titles the appropriate system in order to achieve the best experience. You wont find any Zelda games in here, although you should play them if you haven't. Most of the games mentioned before my post are amazing - these are just a few that I've found break the mold a bit (in a good way) and/or come close to perfecting a RPG experience.

These aren't really in order :)

NES
1. Sweet Home
2. Destiny of an Emperor
3. Crystalis
4. Dragon Warrior 3
5. Dragon Warrior 4

SNES
1. Breath of Fire 2
2. Terranigma
3. Illusion of Gaia
4. Secret of Evermore
5. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

GBA
1. Breath of Fire
2. Final Fantasy VI
3. Golden Sun
4. Tales of Phantasia
5. Shining Force: Resurrection of the Dark Dragon

DS
1. Chrono Trigger
2. Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies
3. Radiant Historia
4. Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor
5. Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume

Genesis
1. Phantasy Star IV
2. Shining Force II
3. Pier Solar
4. Beggar Prince
5. Shadowrun

Sega CD
1. Vay
2. Popful Mail
3. Shining Force CD
4. Lunar: The Silver Star
5. Lunar: Eternal Blue

PS1
1. Legend of Dragoon
2. Suikoden II
3. Xenogears
4. Legend of Legaia
5. Parasite Eve

PS2
1. Final Fantasy XII
2. SMT: Nocturne
3. SMT: Digital Devil Saga
4. Shadow Hearts
5. SMT: Persona 4

PSP
1. SMT: Persona 3
2. Star Ocean: First Departure
3. Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together
4. Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection
5. Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions

Since I only did 5 per system, I will point out that some of these systems have so many awesome games that I had to make a few tough decisions. The PS1, PS2, PSP, and DS are extremely RPG heavy. The SNES is has a few others that are amazing as well, and shouldn't be overlooked.

Hardware and Tech / Re: New tv.
« on: October 03, 2013, 02:21:19 pm »
I went and picked up the TV this past weekend and got a better look at it. It's a Sony Wega ke50xs910. I haven't hooked it up yet, I still need to find a stand big enough for it. If I remember correctly, it has 1 RF input, 3 composite/s-video inputs, 2 component inputs, and 1 DVI input. No HDMI though.

I would venture to guess that a set that old is extremely unlikely to suffer serious image retention if it hasn't already. You could run into lag issues - but I'm not familiar with Sony Plasma sets. You just have to use common sense when running older systems on a plasma. I've had a sega CD hooked up to the plasma in my game room for years and haven't ever run into any problems. The funny thing is...the only IR I've run into was on Dark Souls. I played over 100 hours of the game (and that's the only thing that the TV was used for) in about a week so...yeah...you could kinda see the hub for a few weeks after I quit playing it.

I was joking.  I'm actually in the middle of this right now.  I still want to try to get every NES game; but my SNES, Master System, etc. collections are way more selective.

I can tell you this - unless you're a glutton for punishment - I would never, ever, ever go for a CIB SNES set. It's my favorite system ever and I wouldn't even think about it. Not only did they produce some absolute garbage for the system - but some of that garbage is extremely expensive versus Master System, NES, N64, etc. I haven't done the math, but I would guess that it's in the top 5, maybe even top 3, most expensive sets to obtain.

It's really easy to drop a grand on CIB SNES games and not even put a dent in the titles you actually want. That being said - there are a ton of great games to obtain - so if you had a grand lying around I wouldn't tell you not to spend it :)

Mine is from what everyone expects...Donnie Darko. I picked it up when I started playing online games years ago. It's funny because the name fits my personality. I've even considered adding it into my actual name.  Before I settled on Darko I used several others. The earliest I can remember is doubledown. I think I was watching the movie Rounders or something when I started using it. I'll probably never alter it away from Darko (except for random variants like darko2424 for xbl, psn, etc).

Does anyone know anything about "Nosferatu" for the SNES? I picked it up today. It sells in the $40 range, but I've never heard of it.
It's kinda odd that there is a SNES game that I've never even heard of. I'm no expert, but I ain't green neither.
And I grabbed King of Dragons for a Hamilton. I like these 16-bit beat 'em ups.

Nosferatu is a pretty legit find. It's not rare but I've never seen a nice/collectable copy of it out in the wild. I've been on the lookout for a while!

I've met a lot of the people that you guys have mentioned and I can say this - they ALL have amazing collections. I have a few that I respect more than others, but don't have specific links to many of them. While I totally get having a complete set - I've just come to the realization that I enjoy collections that have a lot of really, really nice items over volume. I know a gentleman with somewhere between 8K and 12K games at any given moment and I just really don't see myself going that far. Who knows, maybe I'll win $200 million and go nuts, but for me it's more about quality.
