I found the posts interesting, I did read them both from @marvelvscapcom2. I would highly recommend anybody retro and modern gamer reading through it when they have the time.  I found it vary interesting and easy to understand and read, there was even a mention about the quality of 1Up Cabinets, in which I never owned one, but given what heard on this forum they are no good.

@marvelvscapcom2 put his or her heart into just about everything he gives us to read. This topic in my opinion has two of  his best posts I seen him write so far,   I could defiantly tell this did take a ton or work to complete, especially finding and adding the photo links.  :o

Hardware and Tech / Re: PC Advice (Think I need a new Graphics Card)
« on: December 09, 2018, 11:19:05 pm »
@vivigamer

Keep in mind that whatever graphics or sound card you buy. On any computer, know that it needs to be able to actually fit into both your case, and your motherboard. AND it has to be able to accept the needed voltage from the internal power supply (in the case).

Bigger cards I had issues with them fitting into my computer because my motherboard is vary small.

Also your power supply can be another issue. If it don't output enough voltage needed, to give the video or sound card enough power in order to operate. I know all your asking is for advice on a graphics/video card but. I am just reminding you some issues I've had, and the fact I have just about the same specs as you on my own PC.

Sometimes like in my mom's case. She has no more empty slots on her motherboard to include anything except for one WIFI card and one video card.

In a lot of ways you answered your own question.

You can compress your pc hard dive but I don’t recommend it. The performance penalty and chances for data loss are both very high.

Every time you need to use the data it has to be first uncompressed. If part of the disk fails that part now affects multiple files not just one.

Much better to simply buy more drives and have multiple copies of things.

I’m sure there are folks here that can do one better than me, but I remember when a 30mb hard drive was $200.

“Dude you can fit all three episodes of DOOM on there!”

OLDGAMERZ REPLY
I didn't previously know about what you just said @dashv not being a good idea to compress the harddrive, I correct my own judgement
the bold needs to followed it is not a good idea after all, to compress the hard drive because you can always get another harddrive cheaply therefore I no longer recommend it

I never actually did try to compress any hard drive lately but I believe everything you just said,  I have on an older computer though :)

sorry for the caps earlier I wasn't angry at all :-[

I don't have enough money for either Smash Ultimate or the Nintendo switch. Nor can I enjoy video games anymore

Google says
the sims 3 for PC only is At least 6.1 GB of hard drive space with at least 1 GB of additional space for custom content and saved games.Jun 6, 2013.
How much hard disk space does The Sims 3 take up when all of its expansion and stuff packs are installed? I can't give you exact numbers but the base game takes up at least around 20GB. The expansions are probably smaller but not that smaller. Stuff packs are much smaller than EPs and the base game.

OK so  anyone should know that mostly all PC games, have data that is all recorded onto an internal harddrive, So why the fracking hell do so many modern console games  take 20 to 50 gigabyte or more for one stinking game. plus even more gigabyte space for Downloadable content  and don't even include expansions?

Does anyone have any slightest idea of how big any Sims game is on PC is? and how much that game has to offer on the PC version?

Back in the day everything used to be compressed (in the 2000's) and still look and sound vary good. I have a vary old early digital camera with only 1GB of storage space  it records in HD I think with over an hour of video length, and with fantastic quality. both video and sound.

OK maybe because of the hardware or console specs?

(edit)
I think I figured out
the original kind of Data compression were Lossy Data Compression. In case you didn't know is a process that can reduce the graphical and sound picture quality in order to fit large games or files on a CD, cartridge harddrive, or DVD or Blu ray. Without making much of a difference from it's original format like all compressed data is. In other words with the technology out these days big hard drives are becoming bigger. But so are the files on them since most people consider compression a bad thing, but I use lossless compression, in which still has the file compressed from it's original format, but there is no difference in quality when something claims to be lossless. Making lossless compression better in my opinion. Thoughts?

It is possible on just about all Windows PC OS since XP. To allow you to save hard drive space by compressing files. Should your hard drive ever need more space and you don't want to lose any critical data. And It will hold more data should you ever want to save some space on any harddrive that you are allowed to compress data.

I also wanted to put Mega Man Anniversary and X Collections on there, but I know with the current Legacy Collections released, that won't happen.

You could always get the Mega Man Anniversary and X Collections on PlayStation 2 or GameCube and play them that way. Or, if you own an original Xbox I also recommend that. Although I never really played barely any games on any Xbox in my lifetime.

I don't mean to get involved, but I see exactly why the administrators are not banning Seether. Being a small time admin in my past. I know that it's almost impossible to  keep someone from changing their account, or even worse keep someone from changing their IP address on the internet, or even device for that manner. Seether I think he or she knows this already, the best advice I can give is either to ignore his or her posts or in my case, just reply if he or she actually contributes to the forum in a positive way.

People like him or her just don't give up, until their all burned out mentally or get more mature.

EA Battlefront I may be the first time originaltrilogy.com, full of dedicated Star wars preservationists is unable to preserve part of Star Wars history. The Holiday Special, no problem. Michael Parbot's Making of Empire Strikes Back documentary, took some time but eventually was preserved. The 1990s Arcade games that once were unplayably glitchy when emulated? They found fixes for those emulation bugs. But this might be impossible to preserve given that the game is tied to EA's servers, which will go offline whenever EA feels like it.

I am aware that the sims 3 games for PC, it says in the lease agreement that almost none reads. that EA has the rights to take away The Sims 3 game (even on the game disc installs) and in fact can at any given time, deny it's fans access through a type of spyware that tracks the usage and shares  of when you play that game or any of it's expansions called "usage sharing" in the options panel.

On the original base game it was a optional feature to disable "usage sharing" but if you installed some of the later expansions disabling without it coming back on automatically. it is not an easy one click operation. I turned it off before but I am sick to the point that I don't even want to play that game knowing that I could lose all my game progress later on, and possible denied the rights to play the game (even with the disc)

On the latest the sims 2 DVD combos EA temporarily disabled the sims 2 for many people who complained about it on the internet, through a program called the "Game Launcher"

POST FROM @ffxik
Yep. The EULA states as much.  However unless your willingly breaking the EULA by doing something illegal to begin with.  You really don't have much to worry about.  People who just bought the game and used it normally haven't got much to fear.

There was a problem with the Sims 2 Game Launcher.  It wasn't anything like you're making out.  It was incompetence on EA's part and not maliciousness.  When you fire up the Game Launcher program it connects via the internet to the website.  However at this time EA had moved it to the same site that The Sims 4 was using.  It was too much strain for the program to bear and it would force close.

EA didn't disable it for people that complained online.

yes thanks for correcting that, I worded it wrong, sorry. you're correct about the sims 2 launcher

Schizophrenia and Bi-Polar 2 was my former diagnosis , but now I am just Bi-polar depression, maybe a little ADHD. Been on medicine since at least 11 years old. Been in and out of too many hospitals to count today. Mostly mental problems, don't feel sorry for me. there are worse off people then myself. I think of the people who are without limbs or have much less money and possessions than me. :)

Being a Christian and beleving in both God and Jesus helps with my issues to. Plus my writings about God and Jesus are vary well known on the internet all over the world, in  another place on the internet

If this was a test to see how many replies you would get before someone noticed the trick in the topic title, it is now completed.

Topic title fixed.

I don't know what you mean, but I did change IMO to IYO to involve the community before getting any replies. because writing In Your or My Opinion don't fit as a topic title. Is this a repeat I am now going to search.

I don't hack or do tricks, but some people have tried to hack me and then try to get me in trouble for something I didn't do before

might or may changed to could? anyway thank you @tripredacus

if I do anything you think is wrong please let me know. sorry for the rant yesterday :-[

In all respect to the modern gaming community, I have nothing bad to say about the modern games themselves. The reason why I rave about it so much is because I don't want to pay for a console new or used. That could be useless in the coming years. and I don't want to only be able to but 12-20 games on my console. and need to erase data to fit more just to re-download. Off a server that may soon not have the games at all in the coming years. I own a 3 last generation consoles and it is bad enough to me they may cut patching servers to those games any day now.

Classic Video Games / Re: Retro 90's Shooter/Survival Horror Throwbacks?
« on: December 02, 2018, 04:24:17 pm »
I haven't played any survival horror games, to my knowledge, but I do love 1990's shooter games, there was a lot good games in the shooter genre in the 1990's, as for throwbacks or indie titles, at least it is something to play for those interested, But I have my reasons why I am not at all a current generation fan.

Off Topic / Re: What are your thoughts on digital collections?
« on: December 02, 2018, 07:27:40 am »
Some of us are lucky we were born in the 1960's 1970's 1980's or 1990's or early 2000's or before 1960's because we actually got to own our games physically.

I personally think that one reason why the whole modern gaming market switched to digital only. Because of those people who trade the game into stores as soon as they beat them >:(, I am pissed also that video games we buy can now be taking away from us. In spite of paying full price on everything out these days. All of us Gamers both retro and modern need to pray that the physical  realm of games continues, or at least some of the laws on owning physical things don't change due to greed.

The Flashback as well as the classic consoles were a great idea in my opinion. I hope that future consoles will not have media rights, ensuring that game companies will allow offline usage.

Worst thing that could happen is if the next generation the 9th generation could charge us a weekly monthly or daily fee in order to continue to play the games and console we already purchased >:(

There are a multitude of reasons they are pushing digital.  Cutting manufacturing, distribution costs, the second hand market.

I know that it cuts the cost of game companies to make the game discs. But the bottom line is I find it a poor excuse for them to say and do this. Movies and CD's also cost money to produce and make happen for us.

Example: The makings of one average movie costs multi millions currency all around the world. to make and produce, yet we still have physical movies to buy and take home with us to watch it. And keep them for as long as we want.

Music CD's are also sold on the second hand market and also cost money, and, dedication to produce, record and make the music CD's happen. yet you can still find them and keep them. Or download them digital if you want. Same as with movies. But not video game? I know exactly what @ffxik is saying, but I think the game industry has gone greedy. Just plain unfair greed to it's consumers and I only see it getting worse in the gaming industry with rental consoles only. But that is just a guess :(

Down with the greed!!!!!!! >:(

Everyone else is paying for industry/factory cost, Down with the greed in most of the modern gaming industry.  >:(

don't say it a hardware thing because that is just another excuse for the gaming industry, I compare things now and how it used to be. OK guys? and the old days were a lot better in my opinion.

Maybe I'm wrong to say this, but the modern gamers are getting ripped off in my own opinion, yet some of you are used to it :'(
