Bravely Default has excellent game play and customization, but some of the worst writing and characters I've ever seen in an RPG. Ever. Shame, since DAT SOUNDTRACK!

Bite your tongue!!!!! I loved all the characters in Bravely Default, even Agnes. This is one of the top 10 games Ive ever played.

Oh my god guys, guess who just pre-ordered a 20th Anniversary Playstation 4!

hint... IT'S ME

Damn!!! Congrats. I wanted to get one but there was no way that was going to happen. But on a brighter note, I may be posting a pic of my own personal PS4 today/tomorrow. :D :D :D :D

I need to reach out to all our JRPGers here. I'm sure Kenny, Greg, Abe, and Kashell will all have something to say  ;D.

I'm looking for a couple Xmas gifts for a buddy of mine and I'm ignorant about the Tales games in most ways (I did play a fan translation of Tales of Phantasia on SNES in high school). I know he's played Tales of Symphonia on GameCube and apparently likes the game. Anyways, recently he mentioned that he was at Gamestop and was surprised to see "All these 3DS Tales remakes." If I'm correct, only one came out for 3DS (Abyss) while a bunch came out recently on Vita correct?

He doesn't have a Vita, so do you guys think someone who played Symponia would like Abyss? Also, He never played the Wii sequel. Any good? I know it's included with Chronicles so I may just get him that (and convince him to maybe give me his Gamecube version  ;D). The presents are from my girlfriend and I so he may end up with a ton of Tales games. I'm also considering Bravely Default for him as well since I raved about how great it was to him.

The sequel to Tales of Symphonia on the Wii isn't nearly as good the first Tales of Symphonia, but I wouldn't call it a bad game. The Tales of Symphonia Chronicles on the PS3 would still be worth getting even if he has the GameCube original since it's got some added features from the PS2 version that was never released outside of Japan. I would recommend the Tales of Symphonia Chronicles on the PS3. I haven't played the 3DS version of Abyss, but I've heard good things about it. Maybe you could convince your friend to buy a PlayStation TV so you can buy him Tales of Hearts R. ;) (A cheaper alternative to getting a Vita to play it on)
Psh I don't even have a PSTV yet so he can't have one yet  :P. It's been very tempting with them being $70 this past week.

We're all Playstation fans here so it'd be the PS3 version I'd be getting him.

You loved them? You fell for that shrieking hyena, that one-trick pervert with a pompadour, the whiny sap of a farmer and the lost babe in the woods? I'm...sorry to hear that. ^_~

Daaang, that is a fine piece of console. I'm not a fan of Dragon Quest, but enjoy the heck out of that.

As an aside, Edea was actually my favorite character in BD. Her "special attack music" reminded of something that would be played in a 1980s sitcom.

Oh, dont get me wrong, Edea was definitely my favorite too. But I enjoyed Agnes and Tiz a lot too. Ringabel ... he took getting used to but eventually I had some fondness for him too. Man, just talking about this makes me hungry for the sequel!

And thanks! I considered this PS4 a huge pipe dream the moment I saw it but now that its here, Im giddy as a school girl.  ;D :-*

Finals week ends tomorrow for me! God, I can't wait to get this semester over and done with.

Good luck! I just got done with my exams today, but I still have to turn in my big synthesis project for Friday, along with a presentation of what I've done, so I can't truly rest before then.

Let's kill it! (   ⌒∇⌒)人( •̀ω•́   )

erm...anyone elses' eyes jump right to da boobies in the 2nd set of parenthesis :P

Those aren't boobies, silly, they're two eyes with a " :3 " mouth D:  A boobies smiley would look different, but I'm not going to perpetuate the subject any further  :P While googling to copy-paste that smiley though, I actually found one with a face similar to this one -> (   ⌒∇⌒)   but poking boobs, haha.

I don't know why, but I'm surprised by this! Then again, I know SRPG games tend to be your thing.

that & the more action-y RPG series (like Tales) tend to not be very 1-handed friendly :-\

then again...I've never played a Pokemon game, either!

While they'd still be challenging, some of the later Tales games have characters that are mages, archers, etc. and don't require as -MUCH- emphasis on combo-ing and quick reflexes.

Also...OMGSQUEEPUPPY!

That makes total sense. For some reason I had in my head they were turn based, but thinking back, Tales of Phantasia was totally an active battle system. I remember we had the same conversation about Star Ocean.
