This to me very much looks like Comcept is gonna be looking at doing to Mega Man Legends what they did with Mega Man.  Lots of "Legends" talk and the characters have that Legends feel.  If this is happening, I want it way more than ever wanting Mighty No. 9 lol

Hardware and Tech / PC Upgrade Check/Tips
« on: June 15, 2015, 03:10:03 pm »
I know abit about PC's with putting them together, but I always like to check with people that know a lot more on this to see if it is worth it and properly compatible.  I was originally gonna get a PS4, but I'm leaning towards some upgraded hardware instead for my PC to maximize upcoming games like Arkham Knight, Fallout 4, and Star Wars Battlefront among others.

My plan was to spend the 400 bucks on a new graphics card and some more RAM, but I wanted to see if people see this as compatible and if they feel the upgrade will be noticeable enough.

These are my original parts, I was just going to double the RAM, so I know the RAM is compatible.

Figured I'd go from my 2gb 670, to this 4gb 970 and if I have to worry about PSU issues or if I should look at different upgrades as I'm trying to keep it around the 400 dollar range if I can.

Modern Video Games / Fallout 4
« on: June 14, 2015, 11:35:28 pm »
After that outstanding presentation for the game, I'm more hyped than I thought I could be for this game.  Not only is it out this year, but it's basically improvements and new additions across the board, from something as basic as voices for your male or female character, to full settlement creation within the game that is highly detailed, full weapon crafting/customization, to altering and enhancing your own set of jet packing power armor.

For the game collectors, the Fallout 4 collector's edition comes with a complete full size replica of the ingame Pip Boy, for which you can set your phone inside and utilize the free app they are creating to have possibly the most interesting two screen set up I've seen.

Off Topic / Favorite Childhood Films
« on: June 05, 2015, 03:19:07 am »
Been awhile since I watched the good 'ole Robin Hood from Disney and it got me thinking about what I consider to be my real favorites/classics of my childhood.  There's a lot I think are still good, enjoyable movies, but I really feel like it's truly just a handful of films that I can watch and just feel good, help kinda bring some peace of mind.

1. TMNT (1990)

2. The Princess Bride

3. Disney's Robin Hood

I know there's a couple more, but I'm spacing on what I would consider something truly classic for me. Like I went back to watch Secret of Nimh, which still has fantastic animation, it just doesn't hold up quite as well I felt.  I'll come back to it when I figure 'em out.

Modern Video Games / Mighty No. 9: Signature Edition
« on: June 04, 2015, 05:26:56 pm »
For 60 bucks, there's a collector's version of the game available.  I want to get it, but amazon only has a listing for Xbone and PS4, not sure if it is exclusive to that or not.  I might forgo the Wii U version for a PS4 version if that is so.

Modern Video Games / Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
« on: May 11, 2015, 03:49:13 pm »
As it's been hinted, Koji Igarashi is going to be making a brand new Castlevania-styled game.  I was never huge into the series, but I think it'll be a cool game.

Modern Video Games / Splatoon
« on: May 09, 2015, 04:08:44 pm »
Did anyone put some time into the demo? I think it's a pretty fun game overall, though I hope Turf War can have the chance of being abit longer.  It's pretty short, even if the turnaround time isn't that long between matches.  I feel like the roller is a mild bit OP in terms of paint spreading for the mode, though it is out-ranged by every other gun, even with it's shotgun-like paint fling and unless they get the jump on you, usually you can get them first.  The sniper also seems a little underpowered for the mode.  I know it can do long reaches fairly well in terms of paint spreading, good for long paths, but I think both the Uzi and the Roller do more generally and are more reliable in combat, though the sniper might just need some extra time to get good at it.

My favorite was definitely the Uzi as it spreads paint well, has a long tank life, and the gadget you get with the shield is great when you need to rush people.  Took three people out once with it on since you can run over enemy ink lol

I think this game is gonna be a refreshing thing for the Wii U.  It plays well, it's uniquely entertaining compared to any other shooter out there. Nintendo did right with this.

Modern Video Games / Yooka-Laylee!
« on: April 30, 2015, 05:11:30 pm »
Been waiting for the announcement for a while now, but finally Playtonic Games revealed what exactly their game and characters will be for their spiritual successor to Banjo-Kazooie...Yooka-Laylee! I know I should keep my expectations in check, but seeing this and A Hat in Time making their way through development to reinvigorate the mostly dead 3D platform genre has me excited.

The kickstarter will be going up tomorrow, but we do have our characters...

« on: April 23, 2015, 06:13:35 pm »
Selling a played copy of Xenoblade Chronicles 3D for the New 3DS and an unsealed Shulk Amiibo.  It had the razor trick done on it to get the sticker out of it, so it still can be displayed, but used if you want.  Game only has a few hours of play into it.

Looking to sell them for $60 which will include shipping.

Modern Video Games / Nintendo Direct 4-1-15
« on: April 01, 2015, 07:20:12 pm »
A lot of good and fun stuff came out of the Nintendo Direct today.  Nothing crazy as I'm sure they are waiting on E3 for that, but we got dates on a number of things and some stuff people were hoping for.

-Mewtwo is out on the 15th for those who got the special with both games, and then will be out on the 28th for everyone else for 4 bucks per system or 5 bucks for both.  They also announced that Lucas will be the next DLC character in June.

-Next Amiibo waves are announced.  May is gonna be brutal for collectors.  8 smash characters and then three Splatoon ones lol
http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-announces-three-more-waves-in-smash-bros-amiibo-line-289866.phtml

-The Yoshi Woolly World amiibo will not be a figure, but a super cute yarn plush that has the amiibo stuff on his butt.  He basically implements the double cherry from 3D World so you have an extra Yoshi with you.  Three different colors for the amiibo.
http://www.destructoid.com/yoshi-s-woolly-world-gets-super-cute-yarn-amiibo-and-uk-release-date-289868.phtml

-Mario Maker is getting bumped down to September, but at least has a date now.

-Splatoon amiibo's will come in a three pack or separate if wanted.  May 29th release for Splatoon.

-Apparently Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem has been a thing for years, but now it actually has something to show off lol
http://www.destructoid.com/first-look-at-shin-megami-tensei-x-fire-emblem-289874.phtml

-Wii U will now have the N64 and DS for the virtual console.  Full control customization.  Super Mario 64 and Yoshi Island DS are supposed to be available now, with Warioware Touched, Mario Kart 7, and Donkey Kong 64 later this month.
http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-bringing-ds-n64-virtual-console-to-wii-u-289871.phtml

-The Attack on Titan 3DS game and Fatal Frame on Wii U are getting localized.  So happy for Fatal Frame! Of which that will be out sometime this year, with Attack on Titan in May.

-Free to play Pokemon Rumble World out on April 8.

-The Puzzle & Dragons bundle will be out on May 22nd.

-Amiibo cards are now a thing, and will first be used for a new Animal Crossing game that will be focused on decorating houses for the animal friends.  No date for Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer other than fall.
http://www.destructoid.com/animal-crossing-gets-the-first-wave-of-amiibo-cards-289881.phtml

-New Fire Emblem out in 2016.

-Tons of Mario Kart 8 news.  First they moved up the release date of the next DLC to April 23rd! A new free update will add a faster and harder 200cc mode.  And there are costumes that can be worn by Mii's through amiibo support like Sonic, Pac Man, etc.  They also might've hinted at more coming in the future, but not much to look into with that right now.

-More amiibo news, Marth is getting a re-release in May.  Ness is confirmed as a Gamestop exclusive.

General / Favorite and Least Favorite Final Fantasy Games
« on: March 22, 2015, 06:12:55 pm »
With Final Fantasy XV on the horizon and looking, to me at least, to actually fun and entertaining for once, I figured we could kinda bring up the games we liked in this huge franchise and what games we didn't, if you feel like doing so.

For me, I never really played any of the pre-FF7 games.  Something I'm sure FF6 fans are saying is a travesty, I know, I just never played it.  All of my experience with the series is with the 3D ones.  My two favorites would actually be Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy X.  VII I played with a friend all the way through and it's something I really enjoyed.  Tons to do, characters to like, and I really loved the world.  I still remember me and my friend both laughing as Aerith died, kinda more out of shock than anything, we were just so taken aback from what happened.

Final Fantasy X on the other hand, I have problems with characters like Yuna and Tidus being super annoying, but at the time, that was one beautiful PS2 game, and I really liked how it played.  It had some cool summons, the world was bright and vibrant, I liked the sphere grid system, and though I never finished it (Stopped somewhere before the last fight against Sin and then lost my memory card), it was the last Final Fantasy game I remembered enjoying.  I might go and pick up the HD set someday...less so because it has FFX-2 in it...Wasn't a fan of that at the time lol

After those two, I played about half of FF8, didn't care for it, dabbled in FF9, but never really got to far there.  XII is where things started to get really poor.  This began the idea of playing a game for awhile, not getting any further, and people saying that it doens't pick up till later on.  I hate that.  If your game can't hook me in the first 15 hours, you have failed as a developer and should be ashamed.  There was no reason to have Vaan as the lead in that game.  It wasn't his story.  It was also the start I think of their weird ATB system or whatever it was, where you seem to be kinda half involved in the process.  I really don't like these systems.  Either be full turn based or be full action based.    FF13 was where the series just took a nosedive.  Not only did it feel like it was linear to a fault, the characters seemed generally awful, the story confusing, and I hated the combat.  I got 15 hours into this and heard people saying it gets good when you get the one area that opens up like 25 hours in.  Screw that crap. I poked FF13-2, but nope, and I'm not even gonna breath in the direction of the third one.

That all comes back to Final Fantasy XV, a game I never thought would get made with how much they were dragging it out.  I'm very excited for it, especially after watching the demo that's been out.  A little wonky, so hopefully that's fixed by release which is a long ways away, but it looks fun.  Action combat that seems fairly engaging, an open setting to explore and do missions and such in.  The character designs are rather bland, but at least they don't seem like the usual overkill designs they've been pushing in Final Fantasy.  I'll take realism over ridiculous if I have to lol

Modern Video Games / The Nintendo "NX"
« on: March 17, 2015, 06:23:45 pm »
While this thread probably won't get much information for at least a year, this is big enough to separate it from the mobile market news that came from Nintendo yesterday.  Plus we all knew it was coming as Nintendo has a 5 to 6 year console cycle.  All that is known is that the code-named "NX" will be announced next year and for what I assume is a 2017 release date.

http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-teases-new-nx-hardware-289161.phtml

Enough time to get out a few more hopefully major console titles for the Wii U as we have no idea of what Nintendo has on the horizon as the furthers the Nintendo game releases go right now is the fall/winter season with Legend of Zelda and Xenoblade.  I'm hoping we get a proper Mario release before the end of the Wii U's time.  I don't really count 3D World in the same vein as Galaxy, Sunshine, and 64.

Modern Video Games / Nintendo Characters Leaving Nintendo Hardware!
« on: March 17, 2015, 05:50:28 am »
I never expected this to happen, but the way they are doing it, does make sense.

http://www.destructoid.com/nintendo-and-dena-enter-into-licensing-agreement-for-mobile-development-289157.phtml

Essentially, this company, DeNA will create an online service that will host games based on Nintendo characters.  No ports or anything, just new games that are designed to function for the mobile market, so I assume games like Pokemon Shuffle and such.  This is certainly a way where they can put Nintendo onto mobile, without hurting their hardware business.

Wow, I just re-read part of it and realized this service is not just mobile related, but will show up on Nintendo systems and PC.  Nintendo games on the PC! Crazy!

I know the plastic instrument rhythm genre wasn't always the most well regarded thing when it was out and it had problems due to Activision milking the shit out of Guitar Hero, but I loved both Guitar Hero and Rock Band.  I put so much time into them both from the very start.  Well it looks like we are about to see them return.

Rock Band started to release brand new DLC for the series after dropping it and they've been testing the waters with surveys, leading to the likely return of it.

Guitar Hero seems to be doing the same with something more definite, as it is being said that Guitar Hero will be shown off at E3 and released later in the year.

http://www.destructoid.com/reunion-tour-new-guitar-hero-reportedly-in-development-288131.phtml

I still think these are crazy fun and it would be nice to make a return.  My only issue might end up being they'll make these games only for the PS4 and Xbone.  I don't own either right now and I'm sure Wii U will be the odd console out if they are focused on just current gen systems.  I also worry about whether Activision will handle the series better or not.  Keep the releases to one a year, have a robust DLC schedule, and it'll be just fine.

Modern Video Games / Club Nintendo February Rewards!
« on: February 02, 2015, 05:24:01 am »
Just a headsup for everyone, the new rewards for Club Nintendo are up now.  An absolute ton of digital games are available and will be available till June to get with your leftover points.  For physical items, lots of posters, some odds and ends type things, but I think the biggest ones are the Zelda items, with a 3DS XL carrying bag with NES Zelda sprites on it, a Majora's Mask messenger bag, and a Fierce Diety Link puzzle.  Would've liked a cool commemorative statue or something to get, but overall not super bad.  I got the messenger bag and the 3DS XL carry case.

Got 200 points left, so now to just figure out what I want for an old school game.  Might get something in particular for the 3DS to have some NES or SNES classic on the go, just not sure what.
