When will Assassins Creed games just drop the whole modern part? I want to be a pirate not a computer hacker.
Yup, I've met exactly one person that enjoyed the modern storyline, some girl that worked at a Gamestop. I'm sure I looked at her like she had lost her mind when she said that.
At least in AC4 they took that part of it way less seriously, but still...I also wish they'd just forget it all together.
Yeah I think that's one of the reasons I don't like that franchise. On the one hand, those parts of the game are really boring and I don't ever give a shit when they happen, and also, this may sound kinda nitpicky, but I feel like the fact that the entire game is played as a memory in the animus it kinda kills the immersion for me when everything does that weird glitching out shit. Just from a 'feel' standpoint. I just wish they could've found a way to weave all the stories together somehow on their own without having to tie it all to that part of the game.
You're not alone - while I can overlook that stuff & I just breeze through the modern sections they make you play as quickly as possible, I have a friend on another board who refuses to play the games for the very reasons you mentioned. What I always find funny is that whenever they have done their marketing push for ANY of the AC games, they have never focused on that aspect of the games at all. It's always 100% this is the time period you'll be in / these are the new mechanics / this is some of the historical stuff you can expect / etc. Never even a word about the modern stuff. It's almost as if Ubi themselves realize how crappy that part of the games are but they feel like they've backed themselves into a corner and have to put it in at this point. Heck, I take it back - I think they did mention it briefly before AC4 came out, but just to tell you that you could almost completely skip the modern stuff if you wanted to.
