Title: Ni no Kuni for PS3
Post by: varkias on April 11, 2012, 06:53:25 pm
Anyone aware this game is currently being translated and coming out here early next year?  The videos look pretty interesting, they have a Hayao Miyazaki feel to them.  I'm not much of an anime fan but I love Princess Mononoke and some of his other movies.  If you know more please share!

I see now that Studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke, Ponyo, Spirited Away etc)  is involved, hence the resemblance.

I haven't heard about it but it looks interesting. I'll check it out more once there is a release date.

Yeah, I read about that back when it was only for Japan and then last October Namco Bandai announced they are bringing it to the US. What I recall most is that the price was quite high for a regular release in Japan. I'll assume in the US it will be the regular $59.99; Japan was charging about double that when it released.

I love Studio Ghibli.

Wasn't sure if you guys even knew about this, but originally that game was both DS and PS3. I was more pumped for the handheld...but I guess that's no longer a viable option.

They've taken over a year to localize it and it will also include the original Japanese dialog with English sub-titles for you snobs out there. :)

Any mention anywhere of a release date other than "next year" ?

Any mention anywhere of a release date other than "next year" ?

Namco held Global Gamer's Day in Las Vegas recently and stated Q1 2013. That's quite a ways off so they probably won't get any more specific for a while.

Yeah just read the new post on RPGFan that just mentioned the same thing. Hopefully if I get a pre-order in quick enough, Ill be first in line for a collector's set too. I kind of got shafted on the Diablo III one cause the day they mentioned a release date was the cut off for getting that. Since no date is listed for this one, Ill get my pre-order in asap.

I was following this pretty closely for a while when it was still under production. It looks fantastic and I'll definitely be picking it up.

I seem to remember seeing an amazingly *SWEET* Limited/Collector's edition for this...

...I'm not sure if it was exclusive Japan or Europe (I, for one, ver much hope to see it here :)
but, it came w/ it's own/custom (IIRC, gold) colored PS3 (w/ Ni-No-Kuni) pics, engravings, logos, and characters 'etched' onto the PS3!

Ive had this on pre-order for 2 months now ... its a long damned wait ... I hope we get some super badass LE!

And my septum is pierced. I should put a lantern through it.

*EDIT* click on the link. It says its available in America only through their site. I wonder if I have to cancel my pre-order with Gamestop. It also gives a legitimate release date of 1/22/13.

As much as I like that LE, I'm gonna have to pass on it. Not a price issue, really, more of a space and need to save up money issue. ha

Namco is bringing the Wizard's Edition to the US but it's exclusive to their clubNamco store.

Quote
The Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – Wizard’s Edition will include a 300+ page hardback physical copy of the Wizard’s Companion, the spellbook Oliver uses throughout his journey in the game.  The full-color Wizard’s Companion contains a bestiary of all the creatures found in the game along with in-depth item descriptions, spells and history of the other world.  The limited-run Wizard’s Edition will also contain a plush doll of Drippy, Oliver’s guide through his adventures, as well as exclusive “golden mite” and “golden drongo” DLC familiars.  The Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch – Wizard’s Edition has a MSRP of $99.99 and is available for pre-order now, exclusively at www.clubNAMCO.com for a limited time.

And now they have some program called Ninostarter where pre-orders unlock items:
Quote
NAMCO BANDAI Games America Inc. is giving JRPG fans the opportunity to add additional bonus items to the recently announced Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch™ – Wizard’s Edition through a program called Ninostarter!

Ninostarter is an exclusive North American crowd sourcing initiative where NAMCO BANDAI Games America will harness the enthusiasm of Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch fans to unlock additional items that will be included in the North American Wizard’s Edition when the game ships on January 22, 2013.

Ninostarter works by tracking the number of Wizard’s Edition preorders being placed exclusively on www.clubNamco.com; as the Wizard’s Edition pre-order numbers rise, additional Wizard’s Edition items will be unlocked when pre-established levels of preorders are reached. Fans will have to act fast to unlock additional items in the Wizard’s Edition as clubNamco.com will stop taking pre-orders for the Wizard’s Edition on August 31, 2012 in North America.

I have them both pre ordered and I can't tell you when I'll have time to play either. But when I can, I'll have them both on hand. I couldn't take the chance in not finding, at least, Last Story. Its one that I felt may get over inflated, thanks to its placement in the wii lifespan.

Well technically you shouldn't be charged until the item ships, so you could pre-order now and take care of the money in the meantime.

Well, damn it. It has a hold of the price on my credit card and I didnt have the spare money for it. I really hope its just a temporary thing cause if not, Im really screwed.

Crap, that's really weird. All online stores that have pre-orders that I've dealt with never charged until the item was about to ship, that's how they all work. Maybe you can contact their customer service?

Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3

They could have been verifying the account ... but why do it with the entire purchase price? Most places have only verified with a $1.00 check.

*EDIT* I just called them. It was a temp hold on the money. It only lasts a few days so I am good still.

On a more cheerful note, canadians can now pre-order it! So I'm doing that now.

*edit*
I wonder if they'll extend the pre-order time because canadians are catching it pretty late.

Your wish has been granted! http://rpgfan.com/news/2012/1849.html

I hope it makes it to bonus #2 with the extended time. Regardless, Im glad I pre-ordered. I really see this game as my sole obsession next year.

Cool stuff. And since we're at 81% towards the next bonus, I do think we'll reach it pretty easily.

Yup, here's what I got:

Quote from: Namco Bandai
Dear my name,

Thank you for ordering on Namco Bandai Games America. The release date for the preorder product has changed. The product listed below will now be available on September 4, 2012.

That sounds really weird.

Did anyone pay attention to the Ninostarter at the end of the deadline? I know right now its 9 days past but its almost 20% into the 3rd reward. Im wondering if the second goal was reached before the deadline. I sure hope so!

After reading the forums for Ni No Kuni, I think the Ninostarter and the pre-order option ended at the same time ... so whatever its at is what it got at the goal time end. Im guessing we will get the second reward but I was hoping they would have at least mentioned what the third reward would have been. :)

If any of you guys happen to stumble into Gamestop within the next couple of weeks, one of the covers of Game Informer is Ni No Kuni and has a 5-6 page spread on it. If you get lucky like I did, you can just ask for a copy. :) Im going to bag&board my copy and put it with my wizard's edition when it arrives. :D

That's how I felt about Diablo III. While I wasn't completely disappointed by it, there were aspects I wish had lived up to hype better.

I might have to check out the demo when it pops up tho. I have the reg edition preordered, but I wouldn't mine whetting my appetite.

Yeah, Sony are kinda... random. Some days they'll have it up at 3PM, other times it'll take until midnight. Somehow in 6 years they haven't managed to make their updates timely.

I ran the first half last night, a lot of potential!  I liked the emotion capture too, adds some depth to the standard run-around and talk to everybody.  Can't wait to see some new poke... er battle minions.  First boss fight was pretty enjoyable.  I'll try the second part tonight if I have time.  The art for this game is so damn good...

I downloaded the demo, but have been holding off on playing it. Mainly cause I don't want to spoil anything. But I have a friend who said she had a hell of a time with the combat system and was dying all over the place until she got used to it. She suggested playing the demo, for no other reason than to learn the battle system ahead of time.

Thoughts?

The demo wont spoil too much I dont think. The battle system is pretty tough. But I think it will become second nature once you start working on the game.

The wizard's edition was available through Bandai only til Sept 1 I believe. Ive heard people selling their pre-order on Ebay but they are asking almost 3 times what it cost initially. Here's a link and maybe you can call them. http://store.namcobandaigames.com/store/namcous/en_US/pd/productID.253168700/Ni-no-Kuni-Wrath-of-the-White-Witch-–-Wizards-Edition-Club-Namco-Exclusive.html?resid=T35eoAoBAlcAAG1dDlUAAAAM&rests=1357922359698

Haha, yeah.  No GS-exclusive with that guide, though I know they usually do a 15% discount or something when you buy the guide with the game.

But Amazon is still cheaper... Looks like Ni No Kuni is #1 Bestseller on Amazon's list of PS3 games and the guide is the #1 Bestseller for guides...  Maybe that demo and battle system convinced people that they might need the guide after all...  Or maybe they're buying it for the possible art inside?

It is tough the first run through, after having trouble the first time I realized there is SO much room for improvement.  Second playthrough I really got used to the fight mechanics and it was much easier.  I had a blast with the demo, you really have to use some tactics to come out on top in the fights.

The guide is going to be cheaper to order from Amazon even if you have a Gamestop rewards card and buy the pair together.

In other news, Game Informer magazine did a review of the game. They gave it a 7 (which is a bit disappointing of a score for me). Reviewer said that the battles can get very overwhelming and very frequently. I take it with a grain of salt cause this is the magazine that is published by Gamestop and they are all about fps and sports games as well as highly recognized titles. Ni No Kuni has flown under the radar by all but the most interested gamers so far and, as such, I dont think they are going to try to "push" the game as much as AC III or the latest bullshit Call of Duty installation.

Yeah, I tend to not trust reviewers in general, especially when it comes to RPGs. To most "professional" reviewers anything more complicated than centering your screen on what you want dead and pressing a button is considered "bad" or "average". I think DmC reviews are proof of that (saying stuff like "this game is good because the combat system sucks compared to the previous ones!"... and I'd love to be kidding).

I also don't often pay attention to mainstream media's review scores, though I will read reviews, more so after playing a game to see why I think a game isn't as good as a score I see. In any case, IGN sure likes this game: http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/01/15/ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch-review

I agree, I tend to look to youtube for reviews these days and listen to reviews from people who like the same games as me.  One more week!  I pulled out a second tv so my cousin can come over and we can play at the same time :P  We did this for Skyrim as well.

I'm starting to be really hyped for this.
I'm never satisfied by limited editions like this (though I'm looking at the unboxing and this is nice stuff), but in this case I really wanted to support the release of a great-looking JRPG, since sadly a lot of gamers nowadays aren't interested in them anymore and the games need any support they can get.

I just ordered an extra one, but it's still available.  That link I posted above is just to the description page, unfortunately. They want you to go to the main Club Namco (http://store.namcobandaigames.com/)  site and there's a tiny button that says PREORDER when they show the Ni No Kuni image.  Click on that and you'll be set! (and out $100...)

Sorry, I was confused, too, when I was looking at the item page.  Just had copypasta'd what the FB post said.

I...just couldn't...*FIND* anything there  :o

I mean - I saw the item/Item-description...but could not find anything like an "add to cart" and/or "buy this item"...anywhere...

As for *Joining*...

...All I could find was "Log-in to your account" / (using your e-mail addy + password)...same as before...I could *NOT* find:

"Make/Create a New Account", etc...

Has anybody *HERE* actually been able to *Sucessfully* complete and/or pre-order (w/ some/ sort of accompanying order-confirmation) a Ni No Kuni: Wizard's Edition through this link yet?

I thought I'd give it a try by ordering it with a different email address and sending it to my boyfriend's house.  It's using one of my credit cards and my billing address, so if they wanted to be sticklers about it, they'll cancel my order and claim me using the same billing address constitutes as being over the limit of 1 per person.

I'm hoping I can just tell them that it's a gift for him if it comes down to that.

Now that I think back on it...since I couldn't still get the Wizard's Edition...I'd already pre-ordered both the Gamestop *AND* Amazon versions...

Hm, so there's word on other forums that people are already getting their steelbook cases from Gamestop before the game is even out!

I'm out of town this weekend, so I can't verify this at my own store :'(

Anyone else preorder this at GS?  Word also is that they're *not* individually wrapped and many have small scratches, dents, boxcutter cuts...  I wish I were in town to try to secure a nicer looking one!

I do know that the steelbooks arrived at the stores a little less than a week ago. I was told I could go to the store I reserved it at and pick it up. I may do that.
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3

Update. I went and got my steelbook. It definitely did not come wrapped. Its really nothing more than a metal CD/DVD/game case. I dont know about other stores but mine was in pretty good condition.

Btw, Gamestop now has a display poster for the game coming out ... so if you guys were wanting to go ask for one, now would be the time. The manager at the store I reserved my game at said they come down 1/27  (which is when Im going to pick mine up).

I made a record for the steelbook case in case you or someone else is able to do some scans before I will.

I wasn't sure where to put it in re: to category, but since the ACIII steelcase was put into the artwork section, I edited the record to be housed there as well.  Not sure "artwork" is the best place to put it either - any chance of getting a swag sub-category that this would better fall under?

Thanks, soera, for confirming the cases in-store!

I stopped by a few Gamestops today (a treat since I'm not from the area and the boyfriend rented a car for us), and I mentioned to the clerk at one shop that I already preordered Ni No Kuni for the steelbook case.

Clerk: Did you order it early?
Me: I'm pretty sure I did.
Clerk: *goes to a drawer and pulls out a list with names and a line drawn halfway down the list*
Me: Oh, I didn't preorder it at this store.
Clerk: Oh, ok.  Our manager marked a line on this list based on the date and time the customer ordered it so that we'd know who gets the special case.  Anyone after the line won't get the case.
Me: Oh, wow.  I read online that some people were concerned because people who preordered just a week ago when the cases were already in were getting them immediately.  Folks are freaking out a little because they're afraid their case might've been given away to someone who preordered after they did.
Clerk: Yeah, our manager is on top of that stuff.

So I guess in that situation, there are more total preorders than steelbook cases.  I fly back into town tomorrow - if it's early enough, I might see if I can get my case and have the piece of mind.  Otherwise, I'll hope that they're as "on top of it" as this store was (and that I got my preorder in early enough!  :-X).

Ya I wasn't sure where to place them either. The closest I could think of was Artwork, since they are kind of alternate cover art?  :-[

That kinda makes sense.  I considered the "carrying cases" subcategory, too, but it was all backpacks in there :)

It releases tomorrow!

And if you guys have a Gamestop pre-order, I seriously suggest getting your steelbook case early. I went on Saturday and they were mentioning that they didnt think they would have enough of them to fill all the pre-orders. I see people already trying to sell them on Ebay for almost $50 (which is an absolutely absurd price. Its a metal DVD case, nothing more).

You know. If I had gotten it, I may have used it. Unlike the Assassin's Creed III one, which has a RP rating on the front of it, rather than the M rating, like we all knew it was going to get. Believe it or not, that RP rating on the front is the whole reason I'm not using it. If they had just left it plain, it would have been cool. Instead they marred it with a BS icon.

The Ni No Kuni one looks cool.

I just stopped by my local shop and they said the cases were first come, first serve for preorders and that I couldn't get one until release date  :'(

There was a stack of maybe 10 or so on the counter behind them, too :(  Thankfully, I work around the corner and will just go over there when they open and hope for the best.

So... obviously the policy for the steelbook cases are YMMV.  Good luck to other preorder folks!

I'm leaving in a few minutes to get some coffee and stalk whoever is opening up the GS around the corner...

UPDATE (10:32a PST): Okay, just got mine.  Has a small dent on the back and some tiny scuffs and scratches, but I'm not going to whine (too much) about it.  It was the manager (I think) working, and he's nice to me, but I feel like I've asked for a lot of favors in the last week or so from GS in general and didn't want to be a brat :).  If anything, I did ask about any promo posters and he said if they get any (they didn't have any so far), he'd put it aside for me.

Updated the item record with proper scans.  The promo image showing it from the 3/4 angle is misleading as the spine is actually partially white.

I'm surprised they let you have the case with just the $5 preorder.  Other forums mentioned that they got the case when they paid up for the full purchase for their preorder instead of the $5 down payment.

I'm wondering whether or not to return the GS copy.  The useful info on the unboxing vid was that the wizard's edition would have a color inside cover while the retail copies would only have a black & white inside cover.  If that's true, I'll probably return the GS one.  I hate doing that, but they were totally fine with it when I did it with Harvest Moon.

In any case, I'd do the exact same as you if I'd been able to get my case early.  $5 for their trouble for something that's already going for $30+ on eBay.

Btw, anyone with the Wizard's edition get any info on the game incoming? I got charged the actual cost of the game this morning and my account info on the Bandai website says "boxed shipment" but nothing other than that. People on their facebook page seem to be pissed off. I kind of dont blame them. If you pre-ordered from a 2nd party (Gamestop or Amazon) you are already getting or got your stuff ... but you pre-order the more expensive version from the company themself and you have to wait. Kind of ironic honestly.

I see the steelbook seems to be selling for almost $50 on Ebay.

Also heard mention that the game is available on the PS Network for download for the people that missed all the pre-orders.

Ni No Kuni's FB post today is about a contest to win a Wizard Edition box... The comments the post is getting is pretty brutal:
https://www.facebook.com/ninokunigame/posts/487542187971218

I guess I'd be more upset if I owned a PS3.  But I'm ok with waiting a bit longer, as long as it doesn't show up all beat up from the rain.

I actually dont mind the wait ... I still have Suikoden II to play. But I can definitely understand the frustration of the people who are complaining. Its a slap in the face to the people that did order the wizard's edition. I cant see them selling too many limited editions on future releases after the mishap from this one.

Im also kind of concerned about another thing. Apparently the company that is shipping them for Bandai (Digital River they are called) is well known for having pretty damaged items.

Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3

more than likely Namco/Bandai has a terms agreement or something with Digital River that is why they still use them... Though I saw the transaction in my credit card and was told that it was approved by my credit card. I just have to wait till they ship mine.. I believe it will be tomorrow.. On a good note I received my Amazon Official Guide Today with the Gold Hurly Familiar DLC :)

On a bad note I heard they were unable to remove the add to cart button on time (in 2 hours) and that people were having cancelled orders.  :o

Still got nothing. I'd be PISSED if that happened though, because I actually pre-ordered within the first few hours the Wizard Edition became available to Canada. It would have to be a pretty freaking dumb mistake to have been sold out already at that point... It's already stupid that they kept taking pre-orders if their stock was so limited.

Nice!  Did you pay for faster shipping?  I paid for the cheapest, and the order I placed in August just says that the label was printed, but no other info about shipping.

Also, there are *two* pending charges from Namco on my credit card.  So either they're charging me twice or they might actually send me my second order despite the cancellation email *fingers crossed*.

There are conflicting reports about the whole Jan 17th second wave being a whole mistake and that none of those would be be fulfilled, and other folks who got cancellation emails, called Digital River, and got a statement that the email itself was a mistake and sent out erroneously (and the customer would still be getting their product).

So I don't know what to believe now.  I assume my order from August will still be fulfilled, but I'm hoping for your sake that some of those Jan 17th orders will still go through.

This whole thing is a mess - the $20 off coupon is a joke, and that suggestion about purchasing a different preorder from them is insulting to say the least.

I read a user comment on one of these Ni No Kuni stories who talked about their Ace Combat purchase that came with a stick. They said they had received a cancellation email on that and still got the product so Namco's online store and this Digital River company have been a mess for a while. It sounds like everyone just has to wait and see but who knows how long you should wait.

called them up and the lady asked me to read my whole message about that it was cancelled and giving me 20 dollars to spend at the store. I told her that this is not going to work since I can't use this and pretty much a slap in the face. She of course said she is sorry and that they are working on fixing the situation and should wait for the next e-mail.. I then told her that how do I know if I were to pre-order something else that the same thing wouldn't happen to me again.. She said the same thing "sorry but they are trying to fix the situation. I then asked if I could speak to someone higher up... she told me that why I will get the same answer. I then said that well the situation isn't fixed is why and she said the same thing again "sorry but they are working on fixing the situation and you should wait for the e-mail... I feel kinda bad because I did get in that stern mode.

Has anyone here actually bought & PLAYED the game?

Ha, I have the retail vanilla copy in my possession, but it's still sealed, seeing as I don't actually have a PS3 ;)

UPDATE: Boo, I just got a confirmation of cancellation email for my second order... :\  At least I had one preorder go through.  My sympathies to those of you who won't be getting one - this whole clusterf&*! was awful.

Hey Darko, I still have a pre-ordered one pending at Gamestop if you want it. I dont think they would have already sold it.

I haven't had a chance to play the retail version though... hopefully soon. :(

Confirmation of losing-out confirmed :(

Received "Your order was cancelled (from 1-17) because of...Sold-Out" e-mail this morning...

...Oh well - I should have been more on top of the original pre-order...I'm *almost* always really good w/ that too....

Crazy, $510 for a copy of WE.  Think I'll be buying a normal copy this weekend and just setting the WE on the shelf.

I know, right?  I was hoping to have gotten that second order in so I could actually *open* and *enjoy* the plushie and artbook.  But as it stands now, I think I might have to keep it sealed...

I, too, got an official cancellation email that actually references my order number, etc.  The whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, but I'm glad that people are saying the game lives up to the hype (prior to the Digital River mess).

It has arrived! It definitely comes fully sealed. Its kind of smaller than I figured however. Box is in pristine condition btw so whatever issues people had with DR sending beat up stuff is not something I experienced.

*Update* Game is nicely packaged. It takes a while to install. Went ahead and downloaded my golden familiars before I started installing. I dont know if the store copies of the game are black and white on the inside like someone mentioned but mine is not. Box also has adjustable room on the inside so my steelbook fits inside just perfect.

Im about 6-7 hours in and this game already ranks as my favorite game ever. Im absolutely thrilled with it. The introduction story is kind of long (but still entertaining) but once you start playing, its amazing. If it wasnt for the fact that I knew my kids would be here today, I would have pulled the first all nighter in years last night. If any of you guys were on the fence about getting it, jump off that fence and hit your gamestops now. Its out there. The one that has my pre-order had about 8 copies left when I called yesterday.

If someone cant find one, let me know. Mine is still on pre-order til tomorrow.

What are the controls & combat like - as far as, is it "turn-based" enough to control one-handed...if not...can you re-config/customize the controls?

Glad to hear ya' snagged your WE w/ no problems, Soera!

I certainly wouldn't object to anyone carrying out any such research :)

Keep in mind, that while it's only my right hand...it's 'luckily' also my dominant one (every little bit helps)!

Btw - I've gotta' give credit & props to my exceptionally exceptional family & g/f...who've both tried living & doing things (several days in a row, even:) w/ only their right hand to put themselves in my shoes...and...to make sure that I don't "take advantage" by trying to get them to do shit for me that I can do just fine myself  :o

I was pretty surprised, awhile ago, when I saw BAYONETTA listed as an easily playable game w/ only one hand  :)

It's not a game or genre that I would have thought of - anyone here play/have any opinions on the game?

Bayonetta has an "automatic" easy mode, where you can do complex combos with simple button mashing. I never actually tried it myself and it's probably not as fun as going 2-handed and making your own combos (but I know that's not an option for you), but it might be worth checking out.

The combat is turn-based but you do need to move a little now and then. I don't think it's something that you couldn't do with one hand since you have experience gaming with one hand. I'm not very far in the game so I can't speak for later, more difficult battles. I would download the demo and try that out before buying it, but I think you'll get along just fine.

Im about 8-9 hours into the game. Ive already done 2 of the big fights and on my way to the second map. So far, since you are experienced with 1h play, I think you could handle it. Like Darko said, you can move around in fights to pick up glims (little glowing balls that regen mana/health/miracle move) but you have time to do it. I didnt see anywhere that would let the controls be customized though.

I got my guide today. Just input the code for the gold Hurly ... the only thing is you get coupons when you input the code for the gold familiars and so far, I havent found where to redeem them yet.

Maybe I'm doing it wrong but I'm struggling with some of the battles using two hands  :-[ I try to make selections while on the move which is tough because you move with the left stick and cycle through actions with the D-pad. I'm about nine hours in, last fight was with a genie which I lost since I failed to defend on some big attack that hit me for more hit points than I have even at my maximum. Selecting defend at the correct time is key and I screw that up too often. You also have to wait briefly for a recharge after selecting some actions. Since I'm mainly in it for the story I'm contemplating switching from normal to easy. Not sure I want to spend the time trying to get the most out of each familiar which is another important aspect as battles get more difficult (maybe just leveling up is enough and I could be under level in some areas).

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback!

Yeah, I've long since gotten over feeling bad about playing some games on their easier settings :P

Cross Edge (a very hard rpg) I beat on hard (but, it's difficult in understanding all of the systems/meta game more than needing quick reflexes); also 100%-ed Oblivion, which, I guess, is more like what you're talking about - having to move while fighting...

Also, Darko's right in that after a few years - I can prolly do some things that someone trying a game 1-handed for a few minutes for the 1st time wouldn't expext that I could do w/ 1 hand; hmm...

Thanks again :P

I know what you're talking about, I've gotten around by running with my left hand and then letting go of the controller with my right to use the D pad at the same time.  Works pretty good, and the Cancel button is your friend.  I'm level 30 now and the Cancel + Defend has gotten pretty easy now.

Sadly, their assumptions are right. Ive read a lot of posts on the Facebook page and I didnt see hardly anyone saying they werent going to get it still ... just that they may not dump the extra funds for the WE. Hell, some of them were still so interested in the WE that they mentioned it for a tax return purchase.

Update on my game progress. Man, its beyond enjoyable. Im not going to mention anything Ive done but I keep finding more and more stuff that makes this game that much better. One of the things I just unlocked blew my mind. The replay aspect of all this is going to be very high too. Ive actually taken a little time to look through the in-game wizard's companion and read some of it. Its super cool.

I had a company that had PS3 for Super Cheap but they are out of stock and don't have them at this time... Alot of their stuff I do wonder if it was bumped out of a truck or something because once I received an item that was suppose to be brand new but it was missing parts and the packaging for the bolts were missing.. Other than that one case I've never really had any problems with them www.geeks.com

Now probably isn't the best time to buy it either. The game has been out for what, a year and a half to two years in Japan? I'd wait and watch the price sink like rock in a couple of months.

Even if it was region coded you could just take the case and put it over a US PS3. It would still be fun to have.

For 1000 bucks you could have someone design something that looks much cooler than that...as cool as that looks.

This is the only one on Ebay atm ... Nearly $1000 and it doesnt come with the game or anything, just the system/controller. But it does say region free for PS3 games. :o

Now probably isn't the best time to buy it either. The game has been out for what, a year and a half to two years in Japan? I'd wait and watch the price sink like rock in a couple of months.

Even if it was region coded you could just take the case and put it over a US PS3. It would still be fun to have.

For 1000 bucks you could have someone design something that looks much cooler than that...as cool as that looks.
i have to agree because the price will drop and the only way this can stay in the 700 to 1000 dollar range is if it can grow it self a cult following (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_following)

I am honestly shocked at the rampage at which people are going at the wizards editions. Every one of them online is ending in the $400+ area.

I cared that I missed out for about 2 seconds...and then I just went and bought the game.....you know, the thing that you actually play that's bundled in with all of that other nonsense?

I do enjoy CEs and whatnot, but never, ever, ever will I ever pay $400 for the extra $5 the company put into the toys that come with them. Say what you will about CoD, but at least the LEs come with some nifty toys (fully functional remote control car complete with camera, for example). That was only $150.

The only 3 LEs that I want that I might pay the $100+ for (mint and complete mind you) are:

Metal Gear Solid 3
Metal Gear Solid 4
Demons Souls

That's not for the bonus content, but rather out of respect for the games. Is Ni No Kuni awesome? Yes. Is the LE worth $100, I believe so. Is it worth a penny more? NO. Will I pick one up in a few months when it's at ~ $75, probably :)

Mainly I regret not getting the WE because of the book. Sure the full version is in the game, but I just really like game related books.

Also, if I was one of the lucky ones who actually got the CE, I would be selling the shit out of it right now, picking up a regular edition of the game, and then buying the CE again after it comes down in price. ESPECIALLY if I wasn't even planning on playing it anytime soon.

That's 300% profit (assuming a $400 selling price) with zero work/research (minus pushing a few buttons and taking a few photos).

You know what really made me excited? When I finally played the game for real (I only played the boss fight in the demo and didn't do much of anything else). Ventured outside and roamed the world map, then went to the forest and ran into a SAVE POINT. I honestly said "this game uses save points? SWEET". ha

I switched to easy and it's not exactly easy. I still lose battles so maybe I'm just lousy. I haven't paid attention to the celestial signs of each creature though. Also, just read you can cycle the combat menu using the L2 and R2 buttons which I did not know.

How quick are you guys to morph familiars into their second forms? I know there are third forms too but I've not tried that yet. I'm also never sure which familiars to use. There are a lot and it takes time to get experience but it's likely there are better ones still to be encountered. The casino which I got to yesterday has a gold Tin Man but it's expensive.

I'm at the 7.5 hour mark. I didn't have enough free time this weekend to sit down and play it. I played 2 hours on Friday night and 5.5 last night.

How many hours does everyone have into the game thus far?

Also, isn't it funny that developers seem to be under the impression that the old school JRPG formula is dead...and when one comes out it's so popular that it's difficult to find a copy and it gets super high review scores? Hope there are some people in the industry taking notes from Ni No Kuni.

I just hit 24 hours last night. Im at Hamelin. I still like Mitey. He is an awesome awesome familiar. I also still use the lemur on Esther. Her bird character is just too weak imo. The only familiars I have serenaded and continue to enjoy is the green buncher (the big stack of bananas) and the little Bighorn. I have metamorphed all 4 of those characters once and most of them are around level 22-25 again and still unable to do it a second time. I am horribly disappointed in all of the gold DLC familiars. Mitey is no different than the one you have been working on for a while except he is gold and level 1, same with the Drongo. Hurly isnt bad but you get him for free later too (and higher level). I heard the griffy is pretty good though which sucks cause thats the one I dont have. :(

How long is the game supposed to be? I've been doing all of the jobs and hunts in each town I've come to (only 2 so far) before moving on. I've also been sure to explore all of the "dungeon" areas as much as possible. I'm assuming, based on my 7.5 hours, that the game is going to ring in at close to 60 hours?

Also, I haven't died yet. Does the game get that much more difficult? I think I'm around level 11-13 with everyone right now.

I'm at about 30 hours right now.  I've been playing with familiars WAY too much.  I dropped all starter familiars (they tend to have bad stats compared to SO many others) in favor of better familiars and am leveling them up now, my main character is level 46 lol.  Progression might get easy once I finally move on :P  GOGO Pompeii and Nightcap!

I'm more than 20 hours in and I want to say I'm around level 34. I still have Mitey but I did read that he is one of the weaker ones. Problem is I really don't want to keep restarting as I find better familiars. I've done a fair amount of errands (up to merit card 10 maybe) but they start piling up as you go, one location must have had a dozen or more new ones when I got there. Plus, when I got a travel spell a character mentioned I can go back to earlier areas and get more stuff to do. Not sure if that's really a spoiler but you do get a fast travel ability so that you don't have to walk to each town after you've visited once.

He has lower stats than most familiars, but his awesome early abilities keep him strong.  At least for the first half of the game.  There are several faster, stronger familiars that don't get comparable abilities until their second or third morph.  So they are a bit painful at first but come into their own later on.

I have yet to see any but maybe they only show up late in the game. I have not payed too much attention to the sign on the familiars (other than the fact that most of mine are star which means morphing them into the final form is something Ive had to be picky about).

Ive been trying to recruit more but mitey still #1! :D

Yep!  You have to fill out that second heart by giving treats, then you'll be 10/20.  Third heart will increase capacity by another 10, so on and so forth to a max of 50.  Each family of familiar has a certain kind of treat they like best that will fill those hearts faster.  Give him some chocolate (milite family) and you should get that second heart pretty quick.

I try to give him treats and he doesnt do anything but eat it. Nothing rises. He is a single one green square treat from another point of magic attack but when I feed him, it doesnt raise the bar, just adds to the fullness.

I tamed 2 different ice queens today. One was single sign, one was double sign. Had them both at the same time. The double sign had +1 of 4 of the stats and like +30 on magic defense and magic attack. I quickly went and released the other one. :)

Yep there is so much greed out there, its distasteful. I saw a few people actually trying to sell the Drippy plushie alone for almost $200 BIN. What kind of crap is that? While Im happy I got mine and that it truely is a limited edition for a change, I really do feel for the people that got fucked out of theirs by assholes who are only buying to screw over someone for a few hundred dollars. Yeah, I finally decided just to download the super high res (400+ MB) PDF of the thing that's floating around on the Internet. I'm considering just having it printed off on a similar weight paper to a guide and having the pages bound with a nice hardback leather cover. IDK...

Just kidding, its sweet! I'm still pretty early though and am hovering between level 7 and 8. Just got my second familiar and am really wanting to just get ahold of my Griffy.

I just entered the Well area and had to leave. Was thoroughly getting my ass handed to me in there. So I went outside and have been packing up for a bit. Then went back to it. I should be good for a bit, level wise.

Edit, for god awful auto corrects...

I'm about 40 hours in now and I think I'm close to the end. I've been trying to do all the errands and I'm down to one though I'm sure it will lead to another. Also don't have any bounty hunts remaining at this time but to purchase all of the remaining merit rewards it would cost 16 more cards. Either there are a lot more errands to unlock or you can't purchase them all, or they carry over into a second game? I'm having a hard time completing one of those tame a few familiars errands. It took me 45 kills of one familiar just to get a chance to tame it  :( Unfortunately, I still have to tame one more of something, though I've not figured out what it is yet.

I got the dinoceros familiar and it is good but slow. Its size also gets in the way of lining up attacks. I'm on the second stage of the creature, level 11 maybe, and with the items equipped it has 307 attack and 241 defense. On the first stage it only goes up to level ten so it's quick to morph to the next.

I am down to 2 errands left. I can not find another jade for the life of me and the most current tame task (one fully metamorphed thing to go). I am not sure Im going to be able to fill all the cards either but a few of them I really dont care if I get or not. All my bounty hunts are done too. Ive been playing with the familiars more. I still like Mitey the most but the pirate cat is pretty cool and the jackrabbot is pretty strong too. I finally gave up on the green buncher. He is simply too slow to continue using. I got me a Tokotoko but leveling those is a nightmare.

I still havent seen a Dinoceros.

The dinoceros hangs out on the steppes around the desert. Saw him both near the border between the desert and Castaway Cove area and near the building that had the trials. I have another member of the dracones genus that is good, has four star attack and movement though I can't recall what it's name is. It's a duck I believe and a light turquoise color. I don't think I've seen a planet sign familiar still so they must be really rare or only in the final area.

Is jumping useful at all? Just checking. I'm in the fairy village and only got 2 things from the merit stamp cards so far.

Quite enjoying the game right now, and doing all the Swift Solutions stuff along the way. My only problem so far is... well, most of my monsters are Star types, and I've only had one stardrop so far. Oh, and I like that the book in the Wizard Edition can be used to help in-game, like having all the Alchemy recipes, and being easier to read that reading it on the screen.

Most of the familiars are star based. It sucks when you start getting to the final metamorph cause you run out of the jumbos fast.

Jumping doesnt really have much of a use. Ive actually jumped over a low end fight I didnt want to do once. Otherwise, the only use I have found for it was to move a little bit faster in the rooms in towns.

I have 4 options left on the bottom row of the merit rewards (4,4,4,5 cost) but the completion thing is only 75% so Im guessing there is going to be enough stuff to get every reward.

It's not but you have to get it eventually. You have to fill the whole first line before the next line will unlock.

One amusing familiar is the third stage of the Whambat. Although the other form looked better as far as stats, I chose Captain Whamtastic because he has sunglasses on (his outfit looks like a superhero too)  8)

Oh >_<
I never picked up anything (other than faster movement on the world map/boat) because I don't really care about any of them, I wanted to wait and see if anything else I preferred ended up popping up later instead of just wasting all my cards. Bleh.

Yeah, I feel the same way about the guide. I feel like I over use them on RPGs most of the time.

I just finished the Story in Ding Dong Dell, at the beginning. Now, rather than continuing on with the story I'm using the guide to point out as many side missions as I can. This is the only time I'm using the guide too. So if I'm in a dungeon or doing something story wise, I leave it alone. Then once I'm done with that section, I pick up the guide and go hunting for items I might have missed, quests, etc.

AND yes, I'm that far behind everyone else.

I'm prolly close to that. I haven't had time/ been waiting for the GF. But I decided to just play and fill her in on the story if she's really interested.

Im around 60 hours in now. I agree with the guide thing. The way I do my first playthrough of any game like this is totally guideless. I want to explore every path and get everything on my own (so far every "dangerous place" has 100% completion on explore and all the chests). Im liking the direction the game is going into now. It totally threw me for a loop a few times where I am now. I do know at least one more errand popped up and once I completed it, my rating was now 75% so it looks like there will definitely be enough of them to fill out the entire thing.

Has anyone spent any time in the Solesseum? Rank C sucks. :(
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3
Post by: psydswipe on February 04, 2013, 06:09:07 pm
I did try the Solesseum but haven't been there in a while. I think rank C is where I left off (some robot kicked my butt). I didn't have the dino guy then and he should be a big help except I just morphed him to the final stage so he is level one again. Once he is up a few levels he should be good. I'm at 45 hours and have the option to enter the final battle but have noticed more bounty hunts and errands unlocked so maybe I'll mess around a bit more before finishing.
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3
Post by: soera on February 04, 2013, 07:06:21 pm
Beat rank C and then beat rank B ... havent even tried rank A yet cause B was pretty tough. I probably wont see too many more bounty/errands til I can finish that morph capture.

I'm still playing around with my "A" team, most have hit max level (30-40) and are back to 35+ after evolving them.  My progression is still pretty slow (Fairygrounds) but I'm level 50-something now lol.  I'm just having too much fun trying the different familiars and playing with abilities.  I'm looking forward to the casino and soloseum!

Most of the casino rewards are pretty meh. There are a couple of unique alc items but most else is just passable.

I bought some crownberries and an Idler ticket at the casino. I didn't know what the ticket was but I ended up talking to the character who takes it. You get a familiar called Idler in return though I never used it, just tossed the creature into storage.

On February 12th Namco Bandai is releasing a free downloadable Draggle familiar.

OK. I think I'm officially done w/ Ding Dong Dell, the quests anyway. I still need to go back through the Well and get any items I missed while going through there. Then it's on to the Golden Grove!

I have a bit of a TF2 addiction going though, so I stopped where I was and went on to my PC to light people on fire...

I went ahead and finished the game. Turns out you can keep playing after the final battle. You get to create a new save file that is set before the final battle. However, you keep all of the experience and items you gained from that area. When you choose to enter the final battle they don't take you straight to a fight, it's more exploration with random battles and chests to find. Also, after creating the new save file they add more content. I didn't look around but a message popped up mentioning there are some more things to do, including more battles at the Solosseum. I may take a break now and check that stuff out at a later date.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the other day that I got my wizard's edition the other night and, despite the fears and rumors about DR's fulfillment, the game box was sealed and pristine.  Then I put it back in the shipping box and packaging and tucked it away in my studio for some special day :\

So Im sitting around 80 hours in now. I have completed every bounty and errand available. Ive done all of Horace's puzzles. The final area is all mapped out. Im on rank S of the Solosseum. Im still really enjoying the game. Im thinking of beating it, I just dont know if there is post game stuff. I imagine there is cause my errand percentage isnt 100% and my companion and my monster kill list isnt 100% either. I havent gotten too far into the alchemy yet (25%) and really want to see what that has in store too. Plus the Draggle comes out in a few days!

Another update. 83 hours in and Im about to go give the final fight a try. My characters are level 80 now and I finally scored me a Mermite familiar to go with my Dynamite buddy so once he gets some levels, Im going to have a pair of fire and ice badasses! If you guys are exp hunting, walking around the final dungeon really goes well if you happen to find a Tokotocold. Hes worth like 28k which will give most familiars 2 levels a pop. Dont bother wasting your time trying to steal from him either. I thought he would have something super rare to steal but its just a minorly uncommon alchemy item which is also stolen from much more common enemies and drops. When you see him, go all out on him cause he will most definitely try to run away if you dont slaughter him asap.

Good to know!  I've been killing the regular Toko on one of the islands for 2k exp each.  I just got to the Sky pirates part and am Rank B so far in the Soloseum.  I'm having a really hard time making money (chips or w/e) in the casino, have any of you had any luck?  I have about 200k and I'm thinking I'll just buy the chips later, but then the rewards will probably be pretty weak.
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3

Once you beat the game, the final rank S of the rewards opens up and its probably the worst rank of them all. Me personally, I havent done anything in there but look around.

That's Digital River for you.  If I ever see them running anyone's online store I am not bothering with them.

Went to pick up my display poster from Gamestop today. Its actually pretty big. I cut the "Now available" strip off the bottom and its a bit smaller but it looks better without it. Today is the day they are scheduled to change them out so if you get near a GS of your own, you may be able to snag one.
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3

Yeah Mitey's chocolate noises are pretty awesome!  The gamestops near me are complete garbage and have no desire to make customers happy.  I've walked in there many times to inquire about things and they've made it clear don't care at all.
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3
Post by: soera on February 19, 2013, 04:42:44 pm
Thats pretty pathetic that they would do that. Any business that isnt there for the customer is one that will not remain open for long. There are a lot of Gamestops in my local area (probably about a dozen or so in as many miles) and there are a few that dont seem to be all that interested in people that arent interested in FPS games so I dont visit those ones but the one closest to me seems to have a pretty decent staff. Ive actually had long conversations with a few of them even to go as far as them holding stuff for me and calling me when it would come in (not a pre-order).
Title: Re: Ni no Kuni for PS3
Post by: desocietas on February 19, 2013, 05:41:44 pm
That's pretty sweet.

I was never all that sure of how to be "friends" with the GS employees, but I figured the most I could do with one that I hadn't met yet was to greet them everytime I walked in.  I don't ignore them when they ask me if I need help finding anything, and when they're forced to ask me about preorders, I might ask them what's coming up (if it's not busy at the shop).

Usually they're the ones who're pretty nice at first, commenting about a game I picked up, and conversation goes from there.  Also, me walking in there at least once a week probably helps, too ;)

I thought all the employees would be all about the FPSes, which I think they still are, but they also recognize that I'd be possibly be into things like Etrian Odyssey, Pokemon, Fire Emblem, etc., whether I actually am or am not.

Long story short, I didn't think I'd get familiar enough with them where they'd be willing to give me promo display stuff, but it's slowly getting into that territory.  Took a while, though.

Well, as of this morning, Im finished with the game as much as I want to do. I have 100% errand/bounty completion, finished rank S in the Solesseum, 100% completion in all the dangerous places, all my main characters are level 99. I have a few level 99 familiars and Im almost to 1 million guilders. Sitting at 106 hours played. I will probably work on a few more trophies but in all essence, Im complete. :) What an amazing game experience. I dont think anything is going to top it for quite some time. Reviving an old topic!

I finally got to the final boss, got my ass kicked, realized I was 10 levels underpowered (whoops :P) and grinded and tried again.

Things were going well, but this is the type of situation where the terrible partner AI really does ruin everything... I got to the third form of the final boss, and my partners just did nothing to help, and suddenly I was dead... Now I have to refight all the forms of the final boss.
So annoying. I wouldn't mind if the loss was my fault, but in this case it really was the AI just not really doing anything to help.

Who were you controlling? Oliver or one of the others? I always just stick with Oliver and keep my finger ready on the swap person button. I also tend to keep some healing familiars on the other two and the big hitters on Oliver. That way the familiars keep Esther and Swaine alive and if I have to, Oliver can heal himself. Good luck on the fight again. And which one is it exactly ?(dont want to go into too many spoilers)

The final form with the 4 floating eye thingies that keep stabbing me :P

People just said "spam Evenstar", which almost got rid of the floating eye things after 2 uses (and a Rockfall from any of my partners which do have it would have finished them off), but suddenly those eye things just all attacked me at the same time, knocked me down and finished me off (all that a second before a third Eventar would have destroyed them).
